After my video on the Decompose Matrix Utility node I had people asking what other utility nodes I use while rigging. So this is a brief overview of the node I regularly use when rigging in Maya.
I've used them before but not so much in rigging with joints. I've used them with particle effects before where I'm using a black and white ramp to define the life and death of a particle over time and I want the 0 to 1 range of the ramp to be equivalent to the length of my timeline, or at least a set amount of time. Remap basically says this range is now this range. Like you could say your input range was 0 to 1 and your output from that is now 5 to 10. Set range is similar, but it can work with 3D values rather than single inputs, so like RGB or XYZ. If I can think of a good rigging example I will post a video. I've been thinking about it but I don't think I've used either since the last time I was setting up particle effects. For the most part Set Driven Key does what I need these to do so that tends to be my go-to solution for rigging.characters and vehicles and such.
