I love that someone from India is covering the pop culture surrounding rock n roll…….like ur articulation and topics……keep doing….feeling really good Btw a huge Dave group n foo fighters fan…….they should release the epiphone explorer sign of DG
Speaking as a Millennial, I have to politely disagree with this notion, a lot of us are far too poor to afford a lot of these guitars, I think people are buying them up because it's an artist model that they can flip for inflated prices. (on reverb they're starting at $1500) because of it's perceived rarity. If It were just a matter of millennials emulating our heroes Fender wouldn't be sitting on a butt load of the Kurt Cobain JagStangs, The Ben Gibbard Mustang would've stayed sold out. The recent Tom DeLonge Strat while having a popular start is pretty common place now, I see your point, but In my opinion, I think it's due to a perceived scarcity and just scalpers trying to flip them.
I think it's a well-placed product. As a Millennial guitar player, I think it could be a cool guitar to add to the current collection. I could imagine a Millennial that wants to learn guitar can afford to buy one and an amp to start playing. I think for younger audiences, it has a more modern look that could be more appealing than the traditional 335.
Musicians Friend has these in stock right now and with the Member discount of 194.00...its 1183 shipped including tax. Stellar guitar with premium Gibson USA hums, electronics, one piece neck and DG HSC, you cant beat it.
I believe this phenomena is happening because maybe is one of the few times we millennials are given the chance to own a signature guitar that represents rock music we like and grew up with and we can afford. I wanted to remember some other signature guitars from this same era, and I can only maybe think of the Blink 182 one, but when that was released I was only 12 years old, so no chance at all of owning something like that.
I have an Edwards ES-335. That means it is really an ESP 335 as Edwards is their Japanese domestic market production line of mostly Gibson & Fender replicas. How much higher quality is ESP than Epiphone? And yet I got my Edwards (lightly used 4-5 years old when I got it) $2-300 cheaper than the Grohl including all the fees for using a proxy service to import it to me in the US. The Grohl guitar is a collectable. If you want a higher quality guitar that is a replica of any of the old, famous models (all the gib&fen) they exist. Most of the best ones value for money wise are Japanese.
I bought a DG335 Epiphone because I am a fan of Dave Grohl, I'm in my mid 50's. But let me tell you, unequivocally, this guitar is beautiful and plays like a dream. They gave us an impossible to acquire guitar at a fairly reasonable price. Make no mistake, they could have charged more and got it. But the guitar itself is very, very nice and a pleasure to play. I'm very grateful it is part of my collection. I don't care about the Gen X/Boomer marketing stuff. It's a guitar I've always wanted but couldn't afford......till now, and it's everything I hoped it would be and met all my expectations fully. That can't be a bad thing, especially when I know I'm not the only one. It will be their best seller this year and for good reason. At the core, its a REALLY good guitar.
As a communication student, I was immediately intrigued by your discussion. Being a guitarist and a communications student, this is something I find extremely interesting and puts my knowledge from school to use. I've never really thought of what my degree will put me through but listening to you just made me interested in the field of marketing for guitars and all things related to it.
Nostalgia is a huge marketing drug. And not gonna lie I've asked my music store to call me when the second drop for the DG-335 comes in so I'm falling into it face first too XD
humans are suckers for storytelling, myself included. nothing wrong with it. it's just universal. gen z aren't old enough to feel that much nostalgia yet
Tim Henson has a signature guitar that sold out and most people that are fans of Polyphia are probably Gen Z but I get your point. Also Gen Z likes Dave Grohl too. As much as Millennials maybe not but who knows.
Love the hurt shown in the comments. The Millennials complained the loudest about the Boomers, yet the secret reason why is because they actually share similarities with them. Maybe the Millennials really believed the hype that they were somehow different and original. Excellent observation. You know your onto something when you've offended people!
I ignore signature models. They’re pure, fetish memorabilia. Same goes for “road worn” and relic’ing. If what you want is something to put on your wall to admire, or strap on in front of a mirror and live out a fantasy, that’s fine. But it’s not for me. ☮
I.agree but think that some of the road worns are cool when they are subtle. The 50's telecaster has a great neck not found on other models. But yes, signatures are so strange as it's impossible to stake out your own thing when you're playing a guitar with someone's name.on it. Ha
I never liked signature models. In my opinion, it's like you're playing a guitar that isn't yours. I have a 73 lp custom I found at a garage sale, and I've made it my own. Also, keep making videos, man.
The first Gibson Dave Grohl signature came out in 2007, and other brands have put "millennial signatures" out for a long time already. Just look at the esp and Schecter sigs man.
I love Dave, and the Foo Fighters, truly one of my favorite bands. however, that headstock? on a 33...something body? I know I know I am being shallow!! but, my goodness it males me throw up in my mouth! i know, based upon what is behind you in this video, you like that headstock. I happen to think it is one of the worst designs out there. LOL for some reason headstock design is very important to me, always has been. it has nothing to do with name, it has to do with how it works with the rest of the design. blame the artist in me for putting so much importance on a visual attribute. I have to like the way a guitar looks before I even want to touch the thing. I need professional help 🤣
