I grew up listening and watching Ramayana, I always asked my parents numerous questions, the contradictions in stories, and later on in college I started questioning the character of Shree Ram. I wasn’t arrogant in this process, I wasn’t devoted as well. I just had questions. Now, my parents couldn’t answer this, nor my friends, nor my guru. Thank you for making this video, while I started getting answers to my questions few years back through reading, nothing made complete sense. Dhanyavad 🙏. He was called as 'Sundarudu' by his mother Anjana Devi. Hence, Sundarakanda. It is not about the beauty of lanka! Arunachala Siva 🙏

Excellent review and analysis. Eloquent narration. Effective slide and picture presentation. You could have added one more point. There are 24 verses called “Gayatri Ramayanam”. The first letter of each of these 24 verses begin with “Beeja / Mantra akshara (alphabet) of Gayatri mantra, serially. And, each of these verses are at the beginning of every 1000 verses thus expanding to 24,000 verses of Ramayana. The last three of these 24 verses are from Uttara Ramayanam

Dharma of a Kshatriya is the most difficult one. You can see that even today, because every small move of a king is judged by people & has huge consequences. So we must not paint it all in black & white. Dharma is very complex. And maintaining it is very difficult for anyone. But Sri Rama Did it. He sacrificed his personal emotions for his Dharma.

With due respect.. don't you think if there were seven kaand written by maharishi valmiki, the shloka could have simply said that holy rishi composed ramayana with 7 kaanda.. don't you think that mentioning 6 kaanda and separately mentioning uttarkaanda raises doubt about authenticity of this shloka itself.. and also as per Spitzer manuscript there was a Chinese buddhist vasumitra who wrote vibhaasha which mentions ramayana with 12000 shlokas🙏.. if feel some parts of uk are true but it wasn't composed by shri valmiki and was added later on

Everyone must watch acharya prashant videos and specially his video "shudra kaun" ? , Bhagavat gita , atman.That's why learning vedic scriptures and dharmasastras through the lense of vedanta/Upanishads is very necessary...Sudra is not any caste... sudrata in Sanskrit means a person showing trait of lower consciousness...The state of low consciousness is known as sudra...According to brahmasutra we all are born sudra (with low consciousness) ...Our varna is decided once we elevate ourself from low consciousness to higher consciousness... According to vedic scripture a sudra is one (not by birth) who is too much attached to his body and leads a life of pleasure , thinks too much about sex , consume meat , alcohol and remain intoxicated in worldly pleasures or in a straightforward way "Bhogvaadi"/Bhogi is a shudra who cannot think beyond body....And a Brahman is one who has attained high consciousness , insights on life , immense knowledge about the reality of our existence (atmagyani)...So that's why a person with low consciousness was prevented from using adhyatman to use it as a tool to indulge in pleasure .... shambuka was similar kind of person...He wanted to do tapasya with a motive of conquering the devaloka and wanted to go to abode with his body...So clearly he too much attached with his body..And his purpose of tapasya is not for tyag and betterment of society..He was using adhyatman to fulfill his selfish needs of ahankar...That's why he sambuka was called a shudra with low merit /consciousness....And in that yuga ..Due to this reason it was an punishable offense for a sudra (not by birth but because of low consciousness) to use spritualism to fulfill own selfish wishes...Though it is also mentioned in the same uttarkanda that in kaliyuga even sudras can do tapasya.

There are three things which I wanna ask just out of curiosity, Firstly, I have read the Uttar Kand in Valmiki Ramayana published by Gita Press. And the first thing which hit me was the poetic beauty of the slokas of Uttar Kand were highly inferior in compare to other Kands. You know Valmiki Rishi was superb at describing nature and we can see traces of it throughout the Six cantos, but the last canto doesn't have much of that. Secondly some people say that the phalasruti of Valmiki Ramayana which always comes at the end of a book is at the end of Yuddh Kand and they sight these slokas which are last two in the chapter, कुटुम्बवृद्धिं धनधान्यवृद्धिं स्त्रियश्च मुख्याः सुखमुत्तमं च । श्रुत्वा शुभं काव्यमिदं महार्थं प्राप्नोति सर्वां भुवि चार्थसिद्धिम् ॥ १२४ ॥ आयुष्यमारोग्यकरं यशस्यं सौभ्रातृकं बुद्धिकरं शुभं च । श्रोतव्यमेतन्नियमेन सद्धि राख्यानमोजस्करमृद्धिकामैः ॥ १२५ ॥ *Hearing this people attain to, on this earth, multiplied relations, increased wealth and crops, beautiful wives, excellent happiness, and the accomplishment of all desires. They attain to long life, health, fame, intellect, prowess, and good brothers. Therefore it behoveth those good men, who wish for prosperity, to hear this story perpetually.* And the third and last point is the Tilak Commentry on Ramayana authored by either Nagesh Bhatt or king Ram Verma. In the Commentry of Balkand chapter 2 shlok 43 it says, *उत्तरकाण्डं त्वस्य खिलम् । अ भारतस्य हरिवंशवत् ।* Uttar kand is khil bhag, like Harivansh is of Mahabharata. So, are there any counter argument to these....

36:26 l there is a clear mistake here in the statement that both of these are direct translations of Valmiki Ramayan. Ramcharitmanas is not translation of Valmiki Ramayan. Instead it's actually translation of Adhyaatma Ramayan found in brahmavaivart Puran. Hence there are many points of differences between Valmiki Ramayan and Ramcharitmanas

Sir, Regarding the difference naming of the kanda as "Uthara kanda". You mentioned that Uthara means next or progression, and since its mentioned in Bala kanda that Maharshi Valmiki wrote Ramayana while Rama was still a king. Maybe that is why it is named Uthara kanda, because the story is still in progression. What is your opinion?

Your documentary is very informative, unbiased and factually correct. However, based upon my limited knowledge about the subject in question, I would like to add few more facts in support of Uttara Kand. 1. The Narad-Valmiki Samvad (or Sankshipt Ramayana) at the beginning took place somewhere around the coronation of Shri Rama after returning from exile. The events of Uttara Ramayana were yet to unfold. In the beginning, Maharishi Valimiki seemed that he was not aware about the Glory of Shri Rama and his adventures until Shri Narada briefed him and inspired him to write the epic. Subsequently, Shri Valmiki wrote the six Kandas and later added Uttara Kand as the events unfolded. Shri Valmiki received special vision from Lord Brahma/Narada that he will see all the events that has happened in past with respect to Shri Rama as they happened. And in case of Uttara Kand he himself witnessed the events of Luv, Kush and Devi Sita’s exile as he was himself part of those events. So basically, Uttarkand may not be part of Ramayana but is a SEQUEL to Ramayana. 2. Out of thousands of Hindu Texts, only Ramayana and Mahabharat are categorised as ITIHAASA which means they are historical events recorded by the respective authors. Generally, historians are contemporary to the events they recorded which gives authenticity to the facts recorded by them. In case of Mahabharat Maharishi Vedvyas himself existed for the major part of the story (from his birth through Parashara till end). Similarly Maharishi Valmiki was also contemporary to the Ramayana period. This proof is ascertained as Shri Rama met Rishi Valmiki in Chitrakut during exile as well as his role in the Uttara Kand. Not only both the Maharishis were author of respective epics but also played pivotal roles in their respective stories. 3. One more reason as to why these epics are called history is that both of them mentioned the lineage of Kings beginning from the Manu. I am not sure but I have heard that somewhere the lineage after Lord Rama is mentioned in Mahabharat. But in Shrimad Bhagwatam, Maharishi Shuka told Parikshit that King Brihadbala/Vrihadbala fought against Pandavas in the great Mahabharat War and he was descendent of Kusha and was killed by Abhimanyu in the Chakravyuh. The whole lineage from Kusha is mentioned in that text. In Dron Parva of Mahabharat, Brihadbala/Vrihadbala is mentioned as King of Kosala. 4. As you mentioned that Takshashila in Pakistan is named after Takshak (Son of Bharat), not only places but also there are certain castes in North India which claims them to be the descendents of Shri Rama. For example, the Kushwaha people claims to be from the lineage of Kush (Son of Shri Ram) wheareas Raghav Rajputs claims to be from the lineage of Luv. So continuous chain of lineage is also a living proof of the existence of Luv and Kusha. 5. Further, if Ramayan is categorized as History, the fact is that History does not end with Happy endings. Shri Rama killed Ravana, returned home, coroneted as King and that’s it? When Shri Ram returned to Ayodhya, his age was not more than 35-40 years. Ramayana mentions that Lord Rama ruled for more than 10,000 years but that seems to be exaggeration. Considering an average life of 100 years, there were more than 50 years of the life of Shri Rama Devi Sita unrecorded. Since Maharishi Valmiki was contemporary to that period, he must have recorded the later events. Like Mahabharata didn’t ended with the victory of Pandavas instead it records events of Krishna leaving for Vaikuntha, death of Pandavas and their ascent to heaven. 6. Shri Rama incarnated as human to set examples and precedents for every human to follow. He was ideal man, ideal son, ideal brother, ideal husband, ideal friend and ideal enemy as well. He was a role model for every position/duty he held. But the most important lesson from his life was how to be an ideal King. Because the responsibilities of son/brother/husband etc. are limited to a single family, whereas the responsibilities of a King affects entire nation and public at large. He made sacrifices as son, as brother, as husband etc. but we cannot simply ignore the ultimate sacrifice he made as a king. In previous sacrifices, he was unaffected by any pain or remorse like he happily gave up the throne and accepted exile. But leaving Devi Sita and punishing Lakshman were personal loss to him and caused him great pain. Still for Dharma he did what was needed to be done. He taught that the personal life of king must not stand between his duties towards his subjects. The chapter of Sita Tyaag is not something to be ashamed of but it was the highest of the sacrifice he made. We should be proud of a King who sacrificed his personal life for the welfare of his subjects. Fortunately we have a leader today who follow the same principles and unfortunately we have an opposition who focus more of family than the public.

Ravanasura’s atrocities were mentioned in Mahabharath, there might be instances of Lava and Kusa somewhere , Ramarajyam… but is there any reference to Seetha’s renunciation in any other purana? Is there a possibility that few things could hv been added much later to create controversies..

By the way, Shri Ram is Rashtranayak of Bharat because the People made their Idol. 1000s of years, the Rishi, Muni, Sadhu, Sant, Yogi, etc. concluded that Ram is Dharmapurush by debate(Shastrarth) 0,Logic(Nyay Darshan), and deep thinking(Manthan,Tapasya).....

Over millenniums, Valmiki Ramayan has been amended many times. It is therefore extremely likely that the mention of Uttar Kand and the addition of it has been done later. In previous editions of Valmiki Ramayan of Gita Press, Valmiki has ended the Yudh Kand by writing Mahatmaya which means the end of the granth. In later editions, this is removed as a matter of convenience. Moreover, the last few shlokas of Yudh Kand mention that whoever reads the Ramayan, has Lord Rama’s blessings. It doesn’t make any sense to have Uttar Kand after this shloka. It wouldn’t be surprising if you cannot find these shlokas in current editions as they may have been removed to justify the Uttar Kand.

The counterpoint in item#3 is bogus. Uttar Kanda could have been written by somebody later by using information about Ravana's misdeeds from Mahabharata.

Very Thanks to the research of Project Shivoham, as usual. But, the 10th point, on that Balakanda shlokham... It has been said uttara...NOT AS UTTARA KAANDAM.. => "SaT kaaNDaani cha = six, books, also; tathaa uttaram = that way, an end piece..." So, there is an end piece. Not an ending Kaandam. Also, in my search,,,, I found at the last verses of Yudha Kaandam, Valmiki MahRishi says a list of goodness one will attain when he/she reads this Ramayanam. This is a style of End Note... You literally missed the main argument against uttar ramayana. Many of the stories mentioned in uttar ramayana conflicts with other 6 kandas. This video is incomplete and biased.

It seems the sanskrit used in Ramayan differs with the sanskrit used in Uttara Kand. The language that has evolved over the period of few centuries is evident for the fact that these 2 text were written in different times.
