UTV Snow Plow BUILD - Part 1

Fabricating electrically controlled snowplow from scratch for my homemade 4x4 utility terrain vehicle/UTV/ATV (build link below). I'm using pieces of scrap steel I purchased from a local steel shop thus the blade being rolled from six individual pieces that (conveniently) fit into my homemade sheet metal roller. The strengthening strips are cut on the homemade CNC plasma table (link below). To control the blade side-to-side movement I'm installing a 12v ATV/UTV winch. Build continued in the next video.

I never really appreciated your videos until I started to notice how many other channels I like to watch have turned into just talking. You don't do that, you just get right down to building whatever it is you're building and you don't say a word. I like that and I hope you don't change your format because there are people like me (I think) who appreciate that. Good stuff!

I wish I had tilt springs on my plow, but it would be hard to reengineer. It looks like you have a good design for your plow. On my dedicated snow plowing machine, I have tilt and lift cylinders from a plow I got at the scrap yard, and I plan to use these along with the included lights. I plan to use a rear from a hydrostatic Cub Cadet mower on mine.

Cable clamps the saddle always goes on the live line. An old crane rigger told me “never saddle a dead horse “ I’ve watched a lot of your videos your a clever designer and fabricator

Awesome build and ingenuity! If I may offer a few learning opportunities though. Your cable clamps are installed upside down, remember "never saddle a dead horse" and you'll never get it wrong again. MIG welds should always be pushed, not pulled.

You should add some grease points on this little tubes you welded on. Because there will be rust after the winder and it wont flip next year. Greetings from germany ;)

Just a educated thought Donn, metal etching primer is key to stop rust b4 it can start!!! Use a snow plow off a atv on mower and both blade and mower rusting, use a cheap harbor freight winch to lower and raise, great idea on the side to side, would ready cut down on off and on changing angles on blade, thanks for the idea!

Bring on the snow. In Estonia that is. Winter has met its match with the DonnDIY UTV and plow. However I do think you’ll be rethinking the trip spring setup. They seem weak plus I believe the 2 springs connected together will separate when the blade trips and snaps back upright. The winch for power angle is brilliant. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

Donny if you keep those double springs I would take a flat bar and cnc cut some slots for them to connect to the flat bar rather than together. This should help them from coming on and off.

Nice work, I learned a few techniques. I recommend a band saw for most metal cutting. Quieter and no stink.

A lot of the stuff you grind could be done with a belt sander, you should either make or get one, they're really good at cleaning edges fast and neat, plus, belts last longer than discs.

14:25 Nice bump stops can be obtained from fiat ducato leaf springs rubber pad replacements. I can also recommend just using rubber hose and 8mm zip tie, it is stainless and adjustable by using more or less hose :>

Also, automotive coolant hoses are really cheap in all sizes and are handy as wire protection from rubbing
