Thomas has helped me, as well as many others, with my reptiles before. I could pick his brains apart all day, I have to be careful I'm not harassing the poor man but he's always SO patient and welcoming! Free to give such valuable information. He's a proper gem in the reptile lighting community! Then I see him on your wonderful podcast! ❤ amazing job guys. You should get Thomas on again.

I am so stoked that this episode exists. Sorry I missed it when it first came out. The last time that I tried to look into modern lighting, the explanations that people gave me were so incredibly pseudoscientific and full of BS that I found myself very frustrated. Every time I would look up something that someone claimed, it would turn out to be a falsehood or a misunderstanding. Eventually I just decided to stick with species that had less lighting needs, and then do my own experiments to determine what optimal lighting for them would be. With so much misinformation floating around about lighting and other electromagnetic spectrum elements to squamate keeping, I am glad to see a source from someone who actually works professionally with zoological institutions since they are much more likely to be working off of actual scientific papers and not propaganda. I am really looking forward to looking up details from what I will learn in this in the scientific literature for a little bit more detail because I would really love to refine my lighting experiments with a bit more baseline knowledge beyond my time in college 20 years ago.

Oh excellent anyone that starts a presentation by explaining the whole going to have to oversimplify this to the point of a lie thing is good person in my book.

The story about the laser and the heat pump makes me so happy. This is how I have felt based on some of the conversations I have had lately and I just don't even know how to respond to people who are so into the products labeled as infrared light emitters. Going forward I will be sending people to this presentation regularly because this presentation is far better than anything I could try to explain off the cuff. I am also enjoying some of the new information that has clearly been uncovered since I was in school.

Another great video, the timing of which is perfect as I've gotten to understand lighting better. I'm impressed by Thomas's work ethic, how he self taught himself on the subject and made a successful business out of it - top notch! 👏👏 I can totally relate to the autism bit, getting along with animals better than people and being obsessed with specialist topics. Keep going Thomas/Tomaskus. 👌💯 Awesome presentation style yet again Dillon. I look forward to watching the whole video over the weekend. 👍

I get that the reptile systems' 400w produces all the infrared/heat needs and obviously all the necessary visible light is produced by the UVB. I'm not sure I understand the purpose of the JD LED strip light though. Shouldn't the T5 UVB cover most the UVB & UVA needs while the Halide light provides supplementation to UVB needs? Also it looks like Halides produce small amounts of UVC is that at all problematic?
@0y1on
@0y1on Год назад
Oh it also supplements UVB & UVA light I think (along with covering the visible light spectrum)? Sorry was having trouble finding a representation of the JD LED's light output for a bit.
@AnimalsatHomePodcast
@AnimalsatHomePodcast Год назад
The JD LEDs provide visible light spectrum, so between 400 and 700 nanometers. The halides also provide good, visible, spectrum light, but many of us can’t find them where we live.
@0y1on
@0y1on Год назад
@@AnimalsatHomePodcast Gotcha, that makes sense. I was thinking the UVB lights would do that too but they have much lower and skewed visible light output so it makes sense to have another proper light then. Also thank you for the very informative stuff and I appreciate the quick reply!
@AnimalsatHomePodcast
@AnimalsatHomePodcast Год назад
Yep, that’s exactly correct! The quantity of visible light coming from the UV tube is very low
