I know so little about playing the piano and actually have never had a lesson in my life but you make this stuff easy (with my *very* limited knowledge) to get my head around! Best bit is the sweet music I get to hear whole I learn 👍🏾
I''m a classical trained pianist but i wanna learn new things like those you teach here, i'm practicing my major 2-5-1's and then i will study the minor 2-5-1 's, i'm practicing major scales, natural, harmonic ,melodic minor scales and the modes ,all of them, also the chromatic, whole tone, augmented and diminished scales, and major/minor pentatonic and blues scales !
I wouldn’t bother just learning how to play all the modes up and down at the same time, that’s a very classical approach and you won’t get any better. You need to practice actually USING them. Pick one mode such as the Dorian and practice creating nice melodic patterns out of it and using it in creative ways.
@@richarpadilla1891my favourite advice is listening to actual jazz recordings that you like and learning them by ear to the best of your ability. It sounds mundane but it really gives you an insight into how others play
Maybe mention that the 3 and the 7 (b and f) of G7 are the same notes as the 7 and 3 (b and f) of Dflat7 (Csharp7). That’s why they can be substituted for each other. Same with all dominants a tritone apart.
The tritone substitution is not so called because the interval between G and Db is a tritone. It’s called that because G7 and Db7 share the same internal tritone as their 7th and 3rd, or 3rd and 7th, the notes F and B. That is the tritone referred to in tritone substitutions.
I'm thinking about joining but I play contemporary gospel music which uses a lot of jazz and blues chords I know about the number system so I play by ear can your class help me
G is 1. B is 3. D is 5. F is 7 (flat7 for G dominant). A is 9. C is 11. E is 13. It can be confusing sometimes because the A can also be 2 and E can also be 6 but when speaking about dominant chords the E is viewed as an extension of the 7 chord, in other words 13. Hope that helps.
