This chordal trick is insanely simple, and will make you sound like a pro!
The idea is to approach the voicing from a half-step above, followed by a half-step below. This creates a hip, 'outside' kind of sound with minimal effort on your part.
You can use this concept with any voicing, in any progression in any context. It works especially well when playing neo-soul / hip hop.

Your two handed chords are heavenly sounds.

Damn this sounds fly but also so simple. I've been doing plenty of passing from a semitone above, but it sounds so much more grounded when you approach from above AND below

Hey with ChatGPT I've asked it to write a jazz chord progression with extensions may be a fun video. I also then asked it to write a melody. which it did. Conversation write a jazz chord progression in Bb that has a 2 A sections and 1 B section, the chords must use extensions, each section must have 10 unique chords next conversation write a melody for the previous progression

I came upon some famous jazz music. I tried to make out the minor chords, voicing in the faded background with my untrained senses. But, the main instruments were trumpet, saxophone, etc. So, even they're nice pieces, unfortunately the voicing , beautiful chords stay in the background. I happened to find out because of your videos.

Great video as usual🔥 Quick question, aren’t these Cm7/9 and Fm7/9 though? 1:38
@Piano_Pig
@Piano_Pig Год назад
Yes they are! We tend to just label things as 7th chords in jazz, even though we normally add more extensions!

Is having an absolute pitch a must for a good jazz musician?
@eatcoffee1126

I mean it helps, but no not really.
@Piano_Pig
@Piano_Pig Год назад
Absolutely not! It’s all about relative pitch, which comes with practice. Having perfect pitch is irrelevant

Cm7 doesn't have an A note in it and Fm7 doesn't have a Bb note. So what are these chords? This video is very confusing - and I've been playng keyboards for over 60 years.
@chrishelbling3879
@chrishelbling3879 Год назад
You have a D in your Cm7, making it Cm9. Likewise, your Fm7 has a G, for Fm9. Why are you lying in this video; asking for a friend?
