A unusual sighting of a V/Line Locomotive on the Broad Gauge Geelong to Ballarat Rail Line on Good Friday 2024 (29/03/2024). The line has a few vintage bluestone station buildings at Bannockburn, Lethbridge, Meredith & Lal Lal. Vlocity’s have used this corridor on the rare occasions for transfers during Ballarat Line Closures which I have linked below.

Steamrail Vic when they have their Ballarat trains usually use this line.

I do most of my train watching along that line, around Moorabool station and Gheringhap loop. The former Moorabool station is a private residence and living in that place would be just like Paradise.

The line is hardly "disused." It sees almost daily use by PN grain trains, along with SSR grain trains regularly, and a Qube operated freight to Ultima every few days. V/Line shitboxes (Vlos) use it empty to/from Geelong when there are long closures of the Ballarat line. The line also sees use by 707 Operations "Slow Rail Journeys," and Steamrail tours to Ballarat and beyond. This morning (Wednesday 3/4) two N class on hire to SSR used the line, running at 80 kmh (maximum Broad Gauge speed) where possible.

They could use this route to make a Horsham/Stawell Service because lots of people get on a Geelong

Won't happen. The line is Broad Gauge, Stawell and Horsham are Standard Gauge. The line you see here goes across to Ballarat, just beyond which it splits in two, going left to Ararat (end of Broad Gauge), and right to Maryborough and Dunolly, then splitting again with Standard Gauge to Mildura and Broad Gauge to Sea Lake and Manangatang for grain traffic. Add to this, V/Line don't have enough trains as it is (they waste them by leaving them sitting in yards all day and all weekend, doing nothing).
