Australian Wood Duck on the left looks like it has some Pacific Black Duck in it. Workshop needs to let the clutch out on those Manildra Group "T" class if they are to take over the contract from Pacific National for Tottenham NSW branch working. Y156 looks quite snappy all clean and shiny.

it looks like the plain axle bearings are gone. were they removed on this overhaul or previously?

Done previously but not sure when. I think it was to allow them higher speeds when swapping out the Geelong pilot with another from Melbourne.

@@Greensleeves94 , yes, i'm sure higher speeds are allowed with roller or ball bearings. plain bearings were one of the achilles heels of older steam engines. i watched a tv show about poms getting a steam engine from turkey and it started going arse-up when some of the bearings fell out. they enthusiasts had to walk back along the track hoping to find them then get them fitted back in place to continue the journey to a dock for shipping back to uk. i dont think all steam engines can drop bearings as easily as that particular model did.though.

Why could they drive the Y back under it's own power?
@Greensleeves94
@Greensleeves94 Месяц назад
It was idling, but because the Y's are really only used for shunting these days they lack a vigilance system so not preferred to lead on the mainline.
