Most videos on this channel are filmed locally in the Bendigo area, with the North-East around Kilmore East to Seymour also featuring regularly, as well as the Western Line when I get over that that way. I don't have a set upload schedule, it's just whenever I get out for something.
Great weather and great spot at Avoca, nice to see our 81 class down your way helping out. Sister 8143 was yard shunter loco at Goobang Junction yesterday too. One thing about the 81 class is they have a great dynamic braking. 8162 was former PLT Yard Shunter loco until being given to Rural & Bulk a few months back, still has the intermodal side numbers on the cab. Great collection as always Brad.
Thanks Dave, 8162's been a fairly regular unit down here in the last few years on grain work including the drought-busters from 2018/2019. 8103 was another with the double-numbers cabside and bodyside, though it lost the cabside ones when overhauled at Werris Creek in 2022.
Thanks Dave, I haven't been overly diligent in getting the Swan Hill pass over the years so if I'm out for something and it comes through I figure I should probably film it while I can while still loco-hauled
I wonder if SSR will lease more of the N classes once the Warrnambool line becomes velocity hauled next month? Now that V/Line has confirmed that N classes will be removed from passenger service by the end of next year. It looks like SSR will snatch up the N class, P class and Y class.
@Merri-bekRailfan Hah Hahaaaa. Noooo. They've got 3 Working T's, 1 More eventually when it is fixed plus the P classes which will do shunting just as well as a Y.
@@bigman4225Ts and Ps will be doing wagon transfers between different yards plus the Ps & Ts are also suitable for mainline fright while Y classes are only suitable for branchline freight and passenger as well as shunting
No takers for Kangaroo Flat, revellers heading home from the city. S312 sounds good, a far cry from the heady days of working the Spirit of Progress and "Jet" super freights...😋
In the old days, not so long passed, any loco that attended workshops always got a wash and polish, not so today. Patronage on the passenger services must be good for them to run six car sets most of the time Brad.
Beginning of the evening peak that service, it's three-car sets mostly throughout the day. They're even planning to run only three-car sets to Warrnambool when that goes over, apparently due to most of the platforms being too short. A downgrade from the five-car N sets currently in use.
P20 and T413 look great. P20 still hasnt got an ICE Radio so it can't lead. 707 operations has the skills when it comes to restoration and preservation and operation of Victorian steam and diesel
There’s still that serious gap in the standard gauge track at Heathcote Junction that’s still needed to be fixed been like that for at least 9 months now.
Wonder if the Castlemaine Gaol is still running up there on the hill? Went to school with a boy whose dad was a warder there. T413 looks great, love the original VR colours!
Not sure on that, I remember visiting there a good 15 or so years ago myself with the family. Unfortunately '413 wasn't running as well as it looked, gave a few problems on the day. P20 meanwhile looked great and apparently ran well too!
I like filming the pass activity when out for a day, helps pass the time if nothing else! The PN G's at least seem to be firing on all cylinders getting the 3000+ tonne train over the range.
Similar, but different bearings. From memory the ones on P16 are the original style whereas P18 has been retrofitted with package bearings. There's also differences between cast and fabricated bogies.
Great collection Brad, I have a soft spot for the "Rice Burners", of late SCT having numerous issues with the first lot of SDA1's, hence the hire of loco's from other sources. They ride well and have a quiet cab when at full power, I remember being told that self-tapper screws would vibrate out and drop onto the floor as you were driving along! The weak "country" horn also attracts criticism (not improved on the second series) as well as blue tint side cab windows. Chinese made electronics a constant issue resulting in many failures. Cab tours and engine room walk of the SDA1 can be seen on my site via "search".
I don't get it - 9083 runs in from Tottenham with 4 locos hauling 5 wagons, then the same 4 locos run back to Melbourne that evening, but with 2 other locos added, and a handful of wagons. That's a bit of overkill, isn't it? I realize that these services are run to have locos serviced and to retrieve locos from servicing, but why run 4 locos on the Down and have the same 4 locos run on the Up?
Those horns on B76 are not the original, a lot louder. Manildra Group's "T" class still not ready, must be getting close to going in the shed. VLine loco hauled passenger there a nice catch, must be getting thin on the ground these days Brad. Great collection, nice work.
Thanks Dave, getting very thin now the loco-hauled jobs, the last N to Bairnsdale is running tonight and going over to Vlocities. Warrnambool to follow later this year too.
