Mascha came up with this idea to share our top five of each major arcanum in a dedicated video, airing every few weeks. I have begrudgingly stuck to choosing only five for each (...almost). I’m timestamping below but avoiding spoilers. I have gone entirely non-traditional this time.
These are my current five favourite Hierophants:
02:06 the keeper of wisdom
05:03 the elder sage
08:11 the place of gathering
10:42 the site of tradition
13:09 the ancient teachers
You can find Mascha’s video introducing this series here: • Tarot Project 2024: #T...

I can not tell you how much I looove the idea to depict the hierophant as a librarian. What a perfect match. All of the aspects of that job fit so well it's amazing. And we also have a match with the Spacious Tarot. I showed that one in my VR as well. Standing stones are just so fitting and so much more "attractive" (for lack of a better word) as a Pope is while basically representing the same thing.

💜 The Hierophant is such a complicated one! On the one hand, repressive religion is part of my life experience and sometimes the card shows up to represent that. On the other hand... yes, the standing stones are so much more comfortable for me as a representation of tradition and old wisdom and the sacred now.

@@aquamarine18 I totally understand that struggle. For me the Hierophant is more about tradition, routines and beliefs from others that they have because of sth that they experienced and give to us. Sometimes those things are helpful and can protect us from harm or mistakes but sometimes they box us in and block us from moving forward.

Yeah, the papal Hierophant was a very challenging card for me, in my first two years with tarot, all due to my background and a difficult experience in the Orthodox Christian Church (Russian Orthodox). While I can make do with traditional historic popes these days, I prefer the contemporary ones by far, and we once again share one of them in common, Laura. Thank you for this insightful and thoughtful video! 🙏💜

Oooh I loved the place of gathering in the Majestic Earth. I like the idea of the wisdom and tradition of place. I’ve been using the , pulling a card everyday so that one really spoke to me. Tarot for the Great Outdoors’ choice of those Red Woods was inspired. I love that deck 🥰

💜I love it too! I'm looking forward to actually getting to use Tarot for the Great Outdoors... in the great outdoors (when it's not freezing where I am).

'Druids love a good henge' - same. Love the spacious tarot card! That deck has been on my wishlist forever. The mass market fifth spirit is a little different, but is still a librarian.

💜I really like Spacious - it pairs easily with oracles and looks so beautiful laid out. Some of the courts I'd like some more going on, but overall - fantastic. I don't shuffle it in but the expansion pack has nice cards for each zodiac sign.

I LOVE the idea of a librarian as the Hierophant. I don't have this deck, thanks so much for sharing!

I also have issues with the traditional heirophant. I love the cards you chose. Such perfect timing, I'm participating in a weekly tarot chat and this coming Tuesday is this card, not one of my favs for sure. Loved this!

I love these choices! I agree about the less religious Hierophants. The Gaian tarot one especially, I liked your explanation of them being outdoors.

Just happened to be online, finishing up watching one of Codi's videos over at Tarot Readings from a Bitch and this showed up. I don't comment super often but I really enjoy hearing you talk about tarot, we seem to have quite a few things in common in terms of what we like in decks and I'm loving this new series. I don't have a very big deck collection myself but this whole concept of finding different angles and aspects of a card in different artist's work is one of the main reasons I love having a range of decks. Anyway, that Spacious Tarot Heirophant is also one of my faves (I find the Emperor in that deck to be an interesting take as well) And as it turns out, Gaian Tarot and Fifth Spirit are also two decks I really enjoy as well. I got the Indie Fifth Spirit and the book they wrote when it first came out and I really enjoy and appreciate them both. Thanks for sharing your thoughts and decks, I'm really enjoying listening!

💜I do like that Spacious Emperor as well! Yes I'm happy to have the Fifth Spirit indie guidebook; I've bought their 'Radical Tarot' book but haven't started it yet - I'm anticipating it being great though.

I adore the Hierophant from the Tarot of the Great Outdoors. One of the most moving experiences of my life was being near those ancient redwoods…..

I had to laugh, 3 of my choices are matches for yours. The Hierophant in the Gaian, Spacious and Great Outdoors immediately came to my mind. My other choices are the Wild Essence Thoth by Lennan Smith and Jupiter Power Tarot by Charlie Quintero .

💜I don't know Jupiter Power! I'll have to look it up. If I had any interest in Thoth whatsoever, I would own Lennan's Wild Essence deck in a heartbeat - it's beautiful.

100% not surprised. 😅 I am also a card catalog fan! I miss them in libraries. I went with Herbcrafters. Holy places are definitely a great way to make this spiritual connection. I can almost smell the redwoods.

💜Herbcrafters is a deck I've never owned, but find absolutely beautiful; it has been on my list a good half dozen times, but so far my lack of plant knowledge has stopped me, leaving me wondering if I'd 'get it.' I know I have too many learning projects on the go to add in plant significance and associations to that... someday.
