If you're in the market for a v6 challenger/charger/camaro/mustang, 'which one is the fastest' shouldn't be a question you're asking. It doesn't matter what's the fastest of the slowest trims, buy the car you think is the most comfortable/best looking
Literally what I was looking for when I picked out my Challenger. I wanted AWD so an SXT was a must, and I was mostly buying it for the looks. Doesn't hurt that it has a decently fast engine in it either, but wasn't what my focus was at, I was buying it for looks and comfort. I've been driving beaters for YEARS and it was finally time to buy NEW for once.
Really rare to see a base model video. Definitely something that should be done a bit more. Thanks for doing the videos no one else is willing to do. Kinda sad to know that the v6 mustang can no longer be compared though
Yeah I feel like most videos with Challegers are about Hellcats, which are fine if you are taking them to the track all the time, but when are you really going to need the kind of performance in something you drive around every day?
@@fakechains2903 I had a v6 Camaro 2018 bro it’s a good car to start off with 330 hp I was able to mod it to almost 400 BUTTTT if u can ever upgrade to a SRT omggggg it’s a bigggg difference in the playground nevertheless congrats bro and RacerX love your videos bro
@@weezeh345 yeaaaaaa bro quick yes but fast n powerful is a different conversation not to down u my g but until u drove a GT SS OR SRT/SCAT you’ll see the difference
I'm leaning more towards the challenger because of the backseat space, trunk size, and it just looks incredibly comfortable. I just wish it was offered with a manual transmission.
I never understood the purpose of the back seat when it comes to sport and muscle cars, I mean if back seat space is an importance just got for a sedan or suv.
@@selfoblivionalex6262 From the traditional design of these two cars, there is nothing else to do with that space. The cabin would require a radical redesign and it would likely need a full chassis redesign too. They would be far different looking cars as two seaters.
@@selfoblivionalex6262 the engineers at GM aren’t stupid. They put a backseat in the Camaro so they can legally sell it as a 4 seater to help reduce insurance premiums for the buyers. They know damn well those seats will never be used.
Just picked up a '21 SXT Plus AWD yesterday- my 2nd V6 Mopar; my 12 year old trade in brought me so much money I couldn't pass up the deal. Used car prices are insane around here. Got a business partner price, 2 grand from Dodge, and a really stupid amount for the old one. Yeah it's a stinkin' six, but a Go Mango Challenger looks great IMHO ! Good job as usual, Racer X !
I’m super happy with my v6 SXT AWD first car and I’m 20 couldn’t be happier with it. Great for the NYC weather unlike some friends I have who can’t go out when it snows here
I live in 'Cuse .... lol. This is the exact reason I got my GT AWD. 16 inches of snow was nothing for my Challenger. I've played the winter rat game many, many years. I'm done with that jazz now and couldn't be happier. While the Hellcats are hibernating my GT is out tearing it up .... lol 😆
Awesome video comparing these 2, Im actually surprised at how little the difference was I thought the cameo would smoke it...Also I had no idea they offered a 4 banger camera...
Camaro will kill that boat all day long. Unfortunately this guy doesn’t realize that if you rpm to 4K while breaking you activate competition mode & launch control. The car will run 5.1-5.4 all day. I get 5.3 in my manual camaro V6. Never gotten above 6 seconds in 5 years of owning the car. Guys with basic bolt on’s & tune are getting 4.7 0-60 times.
yep exactly. Even my 2014 GMC I used to have with the 5.3 V-8 only made like 345 hp. Not far off from the V-6. And my 98 chevy 1500 Z71 with the 350 had around 260 hp lol
I think that they shouldn’t even have a v6 option on a “muscle car”….the reason so many people get excited about them and feel the way they do is because they had bada$$ big engines that go fast and rumble. The v6’s don’t rumble, they don’t go any faster than most family cars that tote kids because the engine is unimpressive. So everything that made a muscle car what they are, the v6 has none of. Their posers…get an accord
My 18 with some air intake mods iv seen good as 13.6 in the 1/4 mile on my draggy at 105 mph. Thats enough to embarrass most mussel cars from back in the day. Also enough to embarrass most cars made threw the 80’s and 90’s into the early 2000’s. Bought my RS in 18 with 3000 miles for $20,000 great value. Handling is great ride is good have 55,000 miles on it now with one issue the sunroof stopped working had to fix. My brother in-law had a ram pickup with the 3.6 4x4 I couldn’t believe how good it felt in a big full size truck. Great stuff as always Thanks
5.2 is listed as camaro v6 0-60, ive got the upgraded tires, exhaust, with the rs pack in shock edition and im seeing around 5 seconds flat. It really does depend on how you drive it and what wheels/tires you are running. Not only that, chevy makes it so you cna choose your transmission, dont know what this camaro has maybe 8-speed but it also comes with 10-speed which is what i have.
I used to own a v6 challenger and the best I could get was a 5.8, my brother has a v6 camaro and has a 5 flat 0-60 he also ran a 13.4 in the 1/4 mile bonestock at 106mph and can keep up with hemi challengers.
Fairly new to your channel, and I love what I've seen so far. I appreciate you showing the v6's some love, RacerX. I daily drive a 2018 Camry, but I'm thinking about trading it for either a v6 Challenger or Camaro, or maybe a Mustang EcoBoost for my daily. I can get an ungodly amount trading my Camry right now. So videos like this are exactly what I'm looking for. Thanks again!
my friend has a ecoboost mustang and hands down has the best interior out of the 3 in my opinion but i do like the looks of the challenger and how driver focused the interior is
@@mazdaspeedg2380 Yeah, I've always been drawn to Mustang's. But, I'd really rather have a naturally aspirated v6 than a turbo 4. I know, that turbo 4 puts out some impressive horsepower, and I know that Mustang's have had turbo 4's before. But still, I don't know if that would be my preference. Lot's of factors to consider...
Interior in my GT is very good. I have no complaints. With the AWD it's a blast and does trade blows with the Camaro RS. I can also get adults in my back seats comfortably, let alone my kid .... lol. The GT is really a great trim for the Challenger.
Sad the camaro v6 has almost the power of the underpowered 5.7 hemi and then w the weight difference I’m sure the camaro v6 would outrun the rt chally. When I had my rt charger I got beat by a stock eco boost mustang! Great video sir!
You have no idea what you are talking about I have a RT stock Challenger she eats V6 Camaros for lunch and keep up with Camaro SS and mustang gt 5.0 Ecoboost mustang four clyinder a joke
@@doloressalgado3427 ok. I’ve owned 2 rt chargers, a srt392 charger and a hellcat charger so yeah I don’t know about mopars and raced them all. 😳 And your stock rt that can barely run 14s is keeping up w low 12sec mustangs and Camaros 😂. If that’s true then those 5.0s and Camaros probably didn’t know you were racing them
thats my camaro i just bought it from clay cooley in irving a month ago, i was surprised to see my car on here i could tell by the broken grille and the gum that’s on the driver side carpet
I knew the Camaro had the advantage due to horsepower and lighter weight, but what I am surprised is the actual results between the two. Considering the Challenger is 500bls heaver and 25 less horsepower, a -25 sec. difference is actually quite impressive. I'd still preferer a v8 trim Challenger over a v6 trim of course. With that, the Pentistar V8 is producing some surprising results. The Camaro V6 produces 284bls feet of torque, and the Pentistar, 268. For the Pentistar to have less torque and less horsepower and only have a -25 sec deficit is quite impressive! Excellent comparison video Racer X! Great job!
I've owned both (Camaro currently) the Camaro has speed and great handling. The Challenger has room and is great crusier. Any one of these is great daily and something to have fun in.
Great Comparison Video‼️ Came out like I thought it would...but closer than I thought it would be💯 Dodge needs to find a way to lighten up the Challengers for sure‼️✌😁
Great video. My driving fast and light to light racing days are behind me. All I'm interested in are looks and comfort, which is why I am buying a SXT Challenger tomorrow.
Great video i thought the camaro was going to win by a wider margin, since the challenger is heavier. I still love my SXT challenger handels great on the streets NYC.
My 100% stock 2019 Challenger SXT AWD that is my year round daily driver (AWD because I live in MN) gets between 5.8 to 6.5 seconds according to the built in 0-60 screen. (I've had better (5.5), but that was on a small down hill, and I've had worse up hills or when the roads are wet, but those are not fair to count.) Hoping to get the RIPP supercharger someday to get that nice extra punch, but two sets of braces for the kids coming up this year mean no supercharger anytime soon,.
There's an X-factor that needs to be taken into account.... AWD. You can get that on the Dodge SXT. Camaro RS is RWD _only._ Won't matter to some. But if you live in a place with somewhat harsh weather conditions, especially during the Winter months, and you can only afford one ride; yeah it's going to matter. Both can be used as daily drivers, but for most folks in most parts of America, the SXT is just going to be a better choice.
In my opinion, 6 seconds 0-60 mph for a v6 is phenomenol! I believe my wifes '04 durango (5.7l hemi, 5-speed auto) can get up to 60 in about 7 seconds @ 3,100 ft elevation, and my '05 sebring (2.4l i4, 4-speed auto) gets there in over 12 seconds(?) (it has a custom exhaust so it atleast sounds good doing it lol) and my '10 dakota (3.7l v6, 4-speed auto (has an aftermarket exhaust as well)) of which, I sold so my family can move does around 10 seconds. By chance, where did you get your draggy(?) from? I'd be curious to reconfirm my 0-60 times. :)
I currently drive a 2020 Challenger SXT and being it my first Challenger, I enjoy it being my daily driver and it does it's job.. I have no reason to upgrade but if it happens it happens I guess. 🤷
Thank you for this video! Appreciate some love for the Pentastars! My 15 300S is FBO, ScatPack wheels/ suspension, and DiabloSport tuned (Hemifever). It averages 5.6 sec 0-60/14 sec 1/4 mi, which is perfect for me for daily driving!
I just bought a 2022 Challenger SXT. My best 0-60 was 6.1 seconds according to the dash timer. Other runs were usually around 6.3 seconds. I bought it used, and the dash says the all-time best time was 5.8 seconds.
@@user-kl3tb4gl9b well in this particular video its about v6 muscle cars. You don’t need thr small speed difference in a v6 if you care about that get a v8 lol
@@martinezt.v5343 lmao Bro screw the times. line them up and race em. The SXT isn’t fucking with the RS due to being light and having 30 more HP than the SXT. Even my 2013 Camaro RS that I used to have can beat these newer SXT that’s just sad.
@@J_GoldieLoc everyone knows that, nothing new, that’s probably why racer x didn’t take that approach, my 12 year brother knows that information , nothing new, would be boring
Nice video man! Not many people put the time or effort into these models. You do have the RS options package on the camaro. on those 0-60 runs you also stalled on the converter on the challenger you could here the RPM's before you launched which you didnt do in the camaro but the camaro would have just spun had you anyways. Love the v6 platforms from both manufacturers just wish the dodge cars were lighter.
i currently drive a 2004 rsx base @ 160 hp, bought new when i got my first job and had very little expenses back then. literally closing in towards 20 years now driving this car and it's a great daily with awesome gas mileage and cheap maintenance. my next car - after i retire the rsx in a couple years - is definitely going to be an american muscle. i'll be closing into my 50's by then and don't mind paying more for gas. additionally, with the accumulated knowledge - generally speaking - of cars gathered over the years, i'm feeling great owning a true performance car that won't break my bank. i've come down to 3 cars that i've always loved and admired for many years - mustang, camaro and challenger. the challenger - design wise - holds a special place in my heart but i've always been a ford fan. the camaro is probably last on my buy list but nonetheless still a highly desirable vehicle. why don't i want to buy a japanese or european performance vehicle one may ask? i'm no car enthusiast and i don't mod cars. stock american performance cars simply have that robust, raw power to them that the japanese and european cars lack. last but not least - comfort. american cars are just so comfortable to sit in for long periods of time. haha i am getting old.
Not the typical scenario from what I've personally seen, but nice comparison nonetheless. I have a 2018 RS V6, and have raced a few cars including a newer Charger Daytona 5.7. In those particular runs it was basically dead even overall. On the V6 Camaro I've found best results are achieved by turning off the advanced traction control and foot braking till 1500-2000 rpm, then controlling wheelspin with your right foot. Makes a huge difference in the 0-60 times. I know the on-board timer is different, but I've got a best of 5.1 a few times on stock tires.
@@chriscole4717 Sounds like the draggy is very close to the on-board timer then. Mine also ran a best of 13.6 at 104 at the track. 9 times out of 10 a V6 Camaro will walk a V6 Challenger pretty bad, but as we all know anything can happen on the street like this
@@chriscole4717 If he did brake boost on the Challenger and not on the Camaro, that would definitely make a big difference. Plus, as you probably know, if you brake boost on the Camaro with traction control on, it will cut power really bad. Hard to say what's really happening here, but in a completely fair comparison there is solid 1 second difference (or close to it) between these cars. I mean just go and watch videos between a V6 and 5.7 V8 Challenger/Charger, and that's how it should be when compared to the V6 Camaro, since that is a drivers race with the 5.7
A coworker of mine has a beautiful Camaro RS. It sounds sweet. I have a Challenger GT AWD. They are pretty equal all things considered. Both cars are a blast to have a spirited drive in. I just love the Challenger. It's got the comfort, room and looks.
each has it's pros n cons, for daily driving in traffic these do feel easier to handle vs there v8 trims ... but there's still something to be said about that V8 rumble once it turns over...
Agreed I'm actually looking to get into a Camaro for 10k less than a V8 rn the V6 should be plenty but that rumble you speak of is the exact reason I want one, the LT1 RS to be exact, V6 RS is available this year now so it's a tough decision
For the Camaro V6, never forget to bump off basic TC and double-tap that pedal off the line. Disable TC entirely and that rubber will burn like hell for no really good reason.
I'm back years ago I owned a bandit trans am 6.6 and these v6 Camaros have way more horsepower than the big V8 did back then so I don't consider the 300 horsepower v6 slow at all. That was a fast car in the 70s and 80s and even the '90s
I have always hated the look of the new Camaros, it's like they tacked on every body cue from all the older ones and it doesn't work for me. I'd take the Challenger on looks alone even if it's slower. I think they claimed my 06 Charger RT was supposed to do 0 to 60 in about 5.5 seconds with 350hp and a bunch of torque so that Camaros engine is probably pushing what they claimed, just less torque. You should try the 4 banger turbo just to see how it runs. Might be a good option for folks that like the body style but want much better mpg in a daily with some power as well. Hell, I wish I could get better than low 12 average in my car but I love how well it moves for such a pig when I get on it occasionally. I turned the traction control partially off and went to go around a very slow garbage truck because I had two lanes and it dropped a couple of gears and I swear started to haze the tires as it got to work, surprised me as it was dry and hot that day 😎
I’ve been able to consistently pull 5.3 second 0-60 times in my 2018 RS Camaro. I have the high trim level with the performance timer built into the cluster.
Of course Dodge are so behind on their lower engine option they totally forgot about it lol All they did was just added 5 more HP when it had been in the 300 flat for years now. Chevy only getting better and better with their V6’s. Camaro being light and have 30 more hp than the SXT ???? Yeah it’s taking it to gapplebees ..
@@zhila5958 Facts! Knowing Dodge love to make those huge power but left out there V6 engines making the same 300 hp for decades now smh they should be at least pushing 340s because putting 300 on that ain’t cutting it.
Are there different transmission options there? My 2016 RS gets a reliable 5.1 sec to 100klm and sounds like its shifting a lot sharper than test model??
@@decadesmusiclover They definitely have sport mode and you can turn off the traction control by holding the button down for a few seconds when you start the car.
I know I’m late but I’m running 6 seconds flat according to my performance time on my 2023 v6 1lt, any tips to run a batter time? I’ve tried traction control and launch control but basically same results.
@@nategreat6934 first questions? What’s the car’s specific setup? Manual or auto? Wheel & Tires? Sizes Any extra weight you’ve added to the car: subwoofer, cosmetic parts like side skirts, spoilers, front lip, etc? Anything done to the car performance wise? Or completely stock?
@@nategreat6934 so the 10 speed auto then. With RS package I’m assuming since 20 inch wheels. Are you spinning of the line a bunch? Also are you somewhere cold so no heat in the tires? You should be easily getting low 5’s. I could get 5.3 with my 2016 manual trans RS & it was a fully loaded 2LT with 6 piston Brembos so I was heavier than most V6 models. But I’m in the South & the road surface is hot in the summer here so good traction. Also I had switched to Firestone Firehawk Indy 500’s with a 285 width on the rear which helped a lot. These sixers have enough HP to warrant a wider tire on the rear.
Exactly. In the real world, the v6 camaro is way faster than the sxt challengers and chargers. The 2016+ are even faster than the RT chargers and challengers.
Loved the video and your approach to the comparison. One suggestion, though… car guys like myself want to hear the sound of the car accelerating at WOT, and when you started talking over the sound, it kind of ruined it for me.
@@vseqz there’s different variables that can dictate the outcome of a race drivers mods and condition of both vehicles. From what I’ve seen 5.7 have the top end on the V6 Camaro and ecoboost Mustang easily especially the manuals that have the limited slip diff
Honestly the v6 Camaro is quick and I like the sounds of it near red line. But big boy energy doesn’t like these models and everyone tries to give you crap about them. Dumb, but anyway solid video thanks
Congratulations on the video. I have a sxt challenger and when I deactivate track control and activate sport mode, I did it from 0 to 60 in 6.00s. Challenger is the real american muscle car. :)
I like the challenger’s look, feel and the way it drives. Easier to get in and out of and the rear seat is good for passengers unlike other vehicles in its line. The the pentastar v6 is a great engine and the best v6 in the challenger line. The older challengers had a not so good v6 so I highly recommend the newer pentastar engine.
The 2009 Challenger with the 4-speed transmission was an absolute dog. The 2010 with the 5-speed wasn’t much better. Thank God Chrysler developed the Pentastar early in modern Challenger’s lifespan.
Had a 72 charger 400 B&M shift kit. Headers, 14 inch rims from 15. Radial tires. Times were 0 to 60 6 sec-14 flat quarter at 100 mph. At 4500ft Idaho. The v6 today are very close to that. Stock the v6 today would be comparable I think .
Those numbers are close!!! Makes me feel better about getting a challenger! I'm a Chevy guy but the challenger is just bigger nicer, better daily driver, cool and room for my friends. And also has a more mature swagger to it. Can't wait to get one.
With your comment it makes me rethink my decision cause I’m saving up for one of the base models. I just want to buy a car that I could call “my first achievement” and only under my name and not my parents so I want to make it a special decision
