V7E16: Rigorous Roads of Eastern Labrador

After my ferry was delayed due to inclement weather, I finally arrived in Labrador, and immediately commenced exploring. Starting with a short detour west into Quebec, and then onto the Trans-Labrador Highway toward Goose Bay. I seize every opportunity to venture off the beaten path. This episode is hard on camera equipment.

OK... I have just took the last 5 hours of my life to watch the last 8 videos in a row. I'm from Newfoundland and you even showed me places for the first time. I love your videos man, super entertaining. From all the experiences you have had and all the places you have seen. I'm subscribing to your patreon!!! Just the gaia waypoint data of all the places you have camped is worth 7 CAD, not to mention your excellent videos to pair. Never stop.

I haven't commented in a long time, but my family and I watch every week. Your videos have come a long way from the early days. They put me in that feeling like when your on vacation and you wake up in some cool place knowing that you the only place you have to be is wherever you want to go... and there's no rush to get there. You really get it more than many of the other "overlanding" videographers out there. Your videos are about the places you go and the difficulties getting there, and not so much about all the gadgets that many people can't really justify having anyway. Keep going and safe travels!!

For the last couple of years we have gone through Newfoundland as part of a round the world trip from Australia ( yes a bit unusual ) but as we lived in Canada many years back we head too Vancouver and just work east and end up in Newfoundland which then is a short overnight five hour overnight flight into Heathrow , London . Newfoundland and Labrador is just so different and Labrador is on the maybe list for next time , Looks great .

Chris- Another great video thank you. I was told a long time ago by a Trans Alaskan Highway driver that you should slow for the big trucks coming at you on those offroad highways to limit your dust cloud and generally they slow too in similar courtesy. If you don't slow, they don't slow and most of those truck drivers know they have a pretty solid chance of breaking your windshield by throwing rocks off their tires when they are travelling at speed.

Reminds me of our motorcycle journey last year. We came to Blanc Sablon on the M/V Bella Desgagnés from Quebec stopping along a number of outports not accessible by road. Last year the ferry from Blanc Sablon was an old ferry on it’s last legs called the Apollo which we took to Newfoundland after exploring south eastern Labrador. It has been fun following you through the Maritimes and Newfoundland as we have been to a lot of the same places.

I really enjoy watching your videos. This one definitely Reminded me of my Overlanding trip through North East Canada 3 years ago. I could see on your tracks that you went to North West River. That’s where I ended up staying for the night (by the bridge) after multiple unsuccessful attempts to find a spot around Goose Bay. A local retired “labradorite stone” artist gave me a tour of his amazing house near by and even gave me some homemade smoke salmon (and labradorite stones 😬). Best breakfast ever the following morning. Don’t feel too bad, I broke my GoPro lense too last year 😂 You gotta try these cool angles 🎥 Now I always carry a spare one 🙂 Bon voyage !

Hi Chris, I love how well put togeather and functional your storage and living space is in the Jeep. I have to admit i cringe every time you pull out the water rotopac and put the funnel on and pour. Looks very awkward. Id love to suggest some alternatives - maybe a compact tap in the cap - to make it easier for you!

Great video. Enjoyed it very much. A trip I had once planned to do. First time viewer, subscribed. One small observation. Watch your editing. Around the 4:20 min. mark (Bardor Falls) you said you had turned around and were heading East, however for the next 8 min. the ocean was on your left. Not till around the 13 min. mark did it flip over to the right side.

Hey Chris, I am rather new to your channel but so enjoy your content, how you deliver it and the fascinating places you go. I hope to make similar travels when I retire. Two things; thanks for taking risks to get great shots, even at the expense of a lens cover. Successful RU-vid providers always need to mix it up to keep things interesting, so don’t apologize. Second, maybe it’s because I’m a map nerd, but I really appreciated your summary on Gaia (or whatever GPS you used), showing where you traveled, including all stops, even for a sandwich. I hope you add this all future videos! Keep up the great content! By the way, who’s the bobble head on your dash and in general, are you feeling that the Jeep is pretty reliable, or is it just that you’re working it hard each and every day? Thanks, Paul Sanders Sacramento, CA

While you're there, check out the military base. There's an outdoor aviation museum by the airport. Aside from that, You could drive up Hamilton River Road all the way to Northwest River, about 20 miles north of Goose Bay. It's the northermost paved trail in Labrador and there are some very scenic areas once you cross the bridge.
