Kenny Rogers sang, "You've got to know when to hold 'em, Know when to fold 'em, Know when to walk away, And know when to run!" Well, I took his advice...I ran like hell from one bike and bought another. Now with 4,000 miles on the new machine, I have no regrets at all! This short video explains it.

I made the opposite switch. Last year I sold a 2017 GS1200 exclusive for needed funds at the time. I will say it was the most awesome bike I’ve ever owned. But it was a big, heavy bike and the annual service costs were $200-500/yr all while under warranty. I was also concerned about the esa or some other expensive dodad breaking. Then I purchased a Yamaha fj-09 which was a fine bike but never really jelled with it. It was fast, flickable, fit me well and weighed much less than the GS. But chain noise and the engine sound irritated me after a while plus it just felt cheap compared to the GS. So I just purchased a used 2022 V85tt Guardia D’ Onore with the aluminum panniers & top case. It has everything I want, shaft drive, cruise control & heated grips. I really like the sound and it’s all day comfortable. I also like the fact that the V85 is lighter than the GS and not as techy. I do plan on performing my own service on the V85. Hopefully my experience on the Guzzi will be better than yours. Time will tell. Cheers!

I hope the Guzzi treats you well! I loved the ergos and the riding experience. The ownership experience just left me with a bad taste that I couldn’t shake. Safe travels!

This was very interesting for me. I bought a '23 GS 1250 Trophy identical to yours last April - then I test rode a V85 TT. I've been riding for 55 years, and I think this GS may be the best motorcycle on the planet (haven't tried the new 1300 yet). Fast, comfortable, great handling, but...not much soul. I got off the V85 with a very big grin on my face, and concluded that if I had tried it before the BMW, I might have bought it instead. I am still considering selling the GS and getting one. I watched your earlier video and am aware of the issues you had (all of which, except for he ECU, were dealer-related). Although it's undoubtledly a more reliable bike, the new BMW's can have similar major problems, too. I know, "character" loses its importance once the trailer is needed, but we ride these for fun, and the Guzzi produces more of that than the big German.

@rhip99 I attribute the oil leak in the rear diff to the factory, too, since it is pre-filled at the factory. But since it has been such a common issue, you'd think dealerships would check the fluid level during setup. All of this goes to show why buying from a good dealer can be crucial, and why proximity to that dealer can also be crucial. ...unless you buy a bike because you like wrenching on motorcycles, which describes a significant percentage of Guzzi owners. Before buying the V85TT, I spent just enough time in the forums to hear the Guzzi cultists brag about the bike's reliability. After buying the bike, I spent a lot more time in the forums trying to troubleshoot my issues, and I learned loudly and clearly that wrenching on Guzzis is one of the traits Guzzi owners find so endearing about the brand. Well, I am not afraid to wrench on my bikes or cars if needed--I am retired and have wrenched on bikes and cars my entire life as needed. But when I buy a brand new bike or car, I do not find having to wrench on it within the first few days or months to be an endearing trait. Many new V85TT owners happily do so, and chalk it up to it being a Guzzi. I would understand that on a used bike, but on a brand new one that's under warranty? Each to their own on that. Lastly, the Piaggio supply chain and its supporting mechanisms are extremely broken...even most ardent Guzzi fans will agree with that. So if you do make the switch, beware of that. I fully understand your comment about the Guzzi having soul. It's the major thing that attracted me to that bike. But in the end, I hit my threshold and opted to sacrifice some soul for better engineering and dealer support. After all, this is supposed to be my long haul (cross-country) bike, and I need to trust it. It's true that no bike is trouble-free or perfect, but in switching to the R1250GSA, I'm playing the odds and accepting trade-offs that I can live with. And I still find the BMW to provide plenty of fun, just in a more refined way than what the Guzzi provided. I wish you the best on your two-wheeled travels and your decision to switch (or not)!

Eurosport is a great place. I prefer a KTM 1290 over the GS, and I learned that at Eurosport by being able to ride both bikes back to back there. I also have a Goldwing for 2 up and am going to add a KTM 690 eventually for playing around where I li e who JRod 15 minutes from Meadows of Dan off the BRP

Tried the 1250, didn't like it much, so bought the KTM1290. Will try the GS1300 at some point, but then again KTM will be bring out the 1400 next year ;-)

He explained that in another video, mentioned that video in this one, and gave you the ability to click on that video at the end of this one.

It’s an involved story and too much detail to add to this new video, which is why I referenced the earlier video I made about my V85TT ownership, and why I also provided a link to it at the end of this video.
