I definitely needed to hear this message! I’m currently helping my grandfather who is a Vietnam era vet, get his benefits. He didn’t serve overseas but has injuries that lead to obesity, to being diabetic, to having heart disease! I have so much faith he’ll be able to get 100% easily!
I get as part of the pac act camp Lejeune toxic Water, already 50% rated just had my exam today for my second rating, by the way I'm down to 20%kidney function was forced physically to take early retirement 62
I have had diabeties for the last 10 years I have a 60 percent dissability for my back. I believe my lack of physical activity over this time period has caused this. I have had 4 back surgeries and the worse my pain gets the worse my diabeties seems to get. I was driving a truck fir work until my last surgery dec 1 22. I also had hypertension since ten years ago. April 11 23 I had to have tripple bypass heart surgery. Should I put in a claim for diabeties and hypertension? I also went thru allmost 4 years of epidurals every 3 months for service connected back pain. That is when i diagnosed with diqbetes and wad put on medication for it. Thank you.
Thanks for this video. I was diagnosed with sleep apnea in 2000. Retired in 2002 and diagnosed with type 2 in 2004. I never knew that there was a link between the two until now. Sounds like I have a legitimate claim. Is that true? I received a 50% rating for sleep apnea, 10% for lower back pain and 10% for hypertension. VA math gave me a rating of 60%. I now have and 80% rating because my lower back. I’m seriously a little perturbed that I dint know about this years ago. Again, thanks for this information. My eyes are wide open now.
I wish us type 1 diabetics would get an audience. Everything is about type 2 whether it be on TV or the internet. Us type 1 people are basically on our own.
I'm glad to hear that the law has been expanded to cover others that were not boots on the ground. I'm 100% disabled from agent orange but I got coverage early because I was a blue/brown water sailor who also had boots on the ground. I have heart disease and diabetes, I am in a study at IU Medical, that currently gives me metformin and an injectable, I am very well controlled, my VA doctor tells me after the study the VA will only give me metformin or insulin, I would rather not be on insulin since its more dangerous. Is there a way to change their minds on that?
My father was sprayed with Agent Orange and developed diabetes which transferred to his children. Where's the medical help for us? We're affected too but told, oh well, your on your own bud. I want to sue the government for our indirect service connected damages. They did this to me and I need help too.
Would it be possible to include a link to the study that shows veterans with OSA are 78% more likely to develop DM2? My VSO absolutely refuses to file for DM2 even though I am rated for OSA. He says ONLY agent orange vets get rated for DM2.
During the rating exam what should I say ? That my ankle disability keeps me from moving around a lot which lead to my obesity which lead to my diabetes ?
It doesn't matter how good you feel most days. On the day of the exam you feel lousy, your joints ache, you have limited range of motion, you can't feel the tickle stick on your feet, etc. Don't give ANY indication that you feel fine. This is one of those times where you need to be selfish and broken.
Can diabetes type 2 rating be reduced if you take medication and exercise and maintain a strict diet and your blood sugar starts reading in the normal range.
Thanks so much for all of the helpful info! Are you aware of whether there are any links between Type 2 and jet fuel exposure or arsenic exposure? I was an air mechanic from 1986 - 1997 and jet fuel dousing was a daily thing it seems. As for the arsenic, I was stationed at McGuire AFB from 1986 to 1990 and I understand that is now on the EPA's Super Site list of bases. I was diagnosed as type 2 about 15 years ago and never really fit that profile since I was only moderately overweight but still very active and still pretty young. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated
I went in the Army without diabetes and went overseas and came back with diabetes, sleep apnea, weight gain, and headaches. I was injured there, slowed down on pt. But the VA denies any connection.
We're sorry to hear you have been denied by VA. For a free consultation to determine if we are able to help you, please reach out to our office at (844)567-1185
Cold War Veterans benefit from September 2 ,1946 to December 26 1991 Congress approve the benefit for Type 1 & Type 2 Diabetes, also Heart Problems due to radiation from Chernobyl. The Radiation was airborne and went all over Europe.
There is a fine difference between 20% and 40% with code 7913, Diabetes Mellitus. 20%: Requiring one or more daily injection of insulin and restricted diet, or; oral hypoglycemic agent and restricted diet. 40%: Requiring one or more daily injection of insulin, restricted diet, and REGULATION OF ACTIVITIES. (Capitalized for reference) That last bit on regulation of activities is what I don't understand. What specifically does it mean? What constitutes regulation of activities as opposed to just taking it easy? Is there a specific criteria or threshold to be met? I currently have 20% for my diabetes which seems low in my opinion. I have an extremely difficult time in the heat or with physical exertion and can not perform extended physical activity like I used to. Any hints or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Here is a link to the CFR relating to VA disabilities. For legal reference it is called Code of Federal Regulations, Title 38, Chapter 1, part 4, Subsection 4.119 (Endocrine System), Diagnostic Code 7913 (Diabetes Mellitus). You're welcome. www.ecfr.gov/current/title-38/chapter-I/part-4
I have heart condition like coronary artery disease and is not getting better is getting worse every day of my live and I’m still waiting for my response from them thy are sure slow
I suffer from chronic pain is service connected. I didnt have any issue with my A1C until I wasnt able to move around and depression and anxiety came into place. How can I service connect my diabetes mellitus to my chronic pain and depression
I served in the Air Force in Thailand between 1967-1968 and later developed Diabetes, which is currently controlled by Insulin Injection. How do I apply for Service Connected Diabetes?
1. was diabetes diagnosed while in service? If not, that's a thin claim. Thailand, you would have to prove exposure to herbicides. Completely different exposure rules from being in Viet Nam.
Your diabetes would have needed to be diagnosed while in service (and up to a year after discharge). If you were exposed to agent orange while in service that is basically an automatic grant. You would not get more than 100% but would be eligible for additional SMC allowance (depending on what conditions you have that are directly related to diabetes).
You still could get Agent Orange up to 50 years or more ; most of the Military Vechical never was clean for the chemical . Or if you where in Germany it will be a CHERNOBYL Radiation Cloud that was over Germany in 1986 and still some area are affected look in to this .
