Yeah that’s not uncommon. As a vacuum shop myself I can relate to that sentiment. It’s technically true (shark doesn’t really offer repair parts) but after a simple diagnosis an alternative option presented itself. 😊 glad to help!

Yeah. At the time of my recording I was not aware the switches were available but since then I have found them on eBay

They are telling you something with those screws. 😉

@@richardsvacuumcenter yeah, they think they’re Apple. I bought a set of those Allen heads. I’m gonna fix this damn thing come hell or high water.

@@richardsvacuumcenter ok. I bypassed the switch and soldered the wires. Still doesn’t work. Probably a bad motor right?

@@cyclemadness the brush motor? did you follow the whole video and test for voltage to the head? if you bypassed switch and you have voltage to the head, your most likely issue is a bad board.

Might check how the bearings feel on the brush roll. If they are bound up then that could be the issue.

There are a couple screws holding the clear cover in I believe. I assumed you took those off and still couldn’t get it off? Sorry for the late reply.

Hmm hard to advise with such limited details. Look closely for seems where there are different sections of plastic. If no screws those parts are held in place with clips.

Or the board is bad. You can test voltage at the motor wires to see if you get voltage from the board. If not your board is probably bad.

If your motor is turning without the belt attached and not shutting off it sounds to me like you need to replace your brushroll.

@@richardsvacuumcenter Thank-you for your reply. I forgot to mention (see above) that I even tried using another identical brush roll, but the same problem manifests. Nevertheless, I tried your idea and the brush motor does not automatically shut off with the GATES 231-3GT-6 belt disconnected. Therefore either I have two bad brush rolls (neither are loose when mounted), possibly belt too tight or too loose (but seriously doubt this), or two bad wind tunnel shrouds, or a bad sole plate, causing this scraping and shrieking of the brush roll (and also of the wind tunnel shroud). Possibly the wind tunnel shroud was overly tightened to the sole plate. BTW, I mention the belt brand and size in case you think that might be the problem. I also mention all this as I cannot find any RU-vid videos that address this exact problem. Thank-you for any help you can offer in advance.

some shark models use what is referred to as a "security torx screw" so you will need to search for the corresponding bit.

I can’t recall whether those motors are ac or dc. If it’s dc it will blow up when you Put ac power to it. Check the printing on the motor itself to be sure. Be careful.

No. It is a dc motor.

@@richardsvacuumcenterThanks. I found the problem. A wire that goes to no. 3 spring connector had broken at the connection under the shrink tubing. So it was almost impossible to see. I soldered on a pigtail, wire was too short, and it works now.

Sounds like you need to replace the brush roll. If it is jammed up the motor will kick off like that and the light will turn red

The roller is new and spins freely. I took the belt off to test that and it still does the same thing. I wonder if the circuit board is bad.

Might be a bad power switch for the brush roll.

Might be the carpet. Not entirely sure.

Sorry I don’t recall. I can guess it was either a T10 or T15. Most tamper proof bits I’ve seen in stores have been only available in set. Best of luck!

I haven’t seen that particular issue related to this problem. Your problem could more likely be a wire that is pinched or partially severed.

Is it showing a red light? If so I would guess the brush roll bearings might be bound up

@@richardsvacuumcenter yes it runs for a second and then turns from green to red. I also had taken the brush completely out and ran it but still turns off.

hmmm not sure. never run into this issue before. does the brushroll run in the back position?

@@richardsvacuumcenter I do not know which direction the brushroll should go, but skipping to your point I just opened the guts up and determined the two wires to the motor were backwards. I remember re-wiring it and forgetting to snap a picture and thinking ... I have a 50/50 chance. I have another Shark I compared it to and voila ... backwards. I am cleaning and piecing back together. Maybe those wires are related to the lights.

@@richardsvacuumcenter when I switch the top switch on the handle it has no effect on the brush roller “the brush roller will not shut off for hardwood floor mode”

@@hunterezzzy5338 Hmm. So the brushroll is always "on" correct? Does it turn off when you lock it upright?

@@richardsvacuumcenter yes it does turn off when it’s upright the microswitch works

@@hunterezzzy5338 Got it. So it sounds like the main brushroll switch is faulty. Is it a three position rocker switch or a press switch? I have a few other videos you may need to look at to replace that switch.
