Great teaching. One other item I use to vacuum seal my mason jars is a Brake Bleeder. Very easy to use, not expensive, and requires no power other then your hand to pump the air out of your canning jars so it is perfect for a grid-down scenario. It is quicker than getting out your machine especially if you are just doing one or two jars, for example sealing up your jar of dry cereal after breakfast. Just look for "vacuum sealing with brake bleeder" and you'll find an assortment of videos.

Really, really great tutorial!! So much learned here. I love all the information but I especially love the hack to get the milars to vacuum seal AND most of all the regular mouth vacuum seal attachment. I bought two and neither of them worked. Now I know!! How exciting! Thank you , thank you!!

Ha! FINALLY I know what I did wrong 😂 I should have figured it out on my own, but sometimes you're just blind. I tend to create an environment that is as hostile to life as possible when packaging food for our long-term storage. So both types of absorbers plus vacuum sealing. Recently, however, I had to do without my vacuum sealer and it felt like every second pack hadn't even formed a hint of vacuum. Yep, those were of course the ones in which the absorbers were next to each other. All the more annoying because I KNOW how O2 absorbers work 🙈 I, dumb, just haven't thought about it. Thanks for the informative video, that was exactly what I needed right now!

Slick hack on using the vacuum sealing textured bag to get your first seal on the Mylar vacuum sealed bag. Like the idea of putting the second seal on the bag too. 👍👍

Vacuum sealing marshmallows are cool to use when showing something being vacuum-sealed (in a jar of course)...lol They expand so large. It's fun to watch.

I dehydrate mine. Great for snacking since drying gives a little crunch. They pop right back in hot chocolate. I also grind some up in my food processor to make granulated marshmallow powder.

Thank you!!!!! You take all the fear out of preserving food!! Can't tell you how much your videos have meant. Because of you, I purchased a 23 qt Presto pressure canner and have canned 42 pints of beef and pork roasts so far, and have 15# of grass-fed ground beef in my refrigerator waiting to be canned with some onions (love that short-cut). And everything was canned without my old "fear of pressure canning"! I also just purchased a sealer and the attachments so I can start preserving that way - but was hung up on the oxygen absorbers and desiccants. What a timely video this was! Knowledge is power - and I thank you for passing your knowledge on to us. Keep the basics coming!! You are very appreciated. (I also think it's wonderful that preserving is something in which both you and Jim have an interest!)

Thank you for this greatly informative video! I actually STOPPED the video midway, got up out of comfy chair & tried the double lid method, using my small hand held FoodSaver device on a pint jar of candy…it worked PERFECTLY! I’m planning Christmas gifts in the pretty quilted patterned jars that I found 3 cases of on sale for HALF PRICE!!! I was having trouble getting the little ones to vacuum seal. My original FoodSaver machine from 20 yrs ago died & my new one (on sale @ Sam’s Club online) will arrive next week. Also, your method of tricking the Mylar bags into sealing is positively BRILLIANT!! I hope you include tips such as these in the cookbook you might be writing with your sister. I will be the first to buy it! ♥️. Thank you, again, for ALL the work you both put into these wonderfully educational videos. I’ve watched every single one!

I was just going to ask you to do a video on vacuum sealing to listen to your wonderful advice! You read my mind, Ms.Pam! I vacuum wrap almost everything that's not in my glass jars and for the freezer, especially my flour, sugar etc . I then use aluminum cans to store them in.
