If you ask me this is the best performance of this piece on you tube..he is just following the music without 2 much "cirkus"and ego ..this is clean and not nervous ..i enjoyed it //thank you mrRepin we can learn so much from you :)
I don't know if anyone else found the first song similar to the Aurora's Birthday Variation - from the sleeping beauty ballet. I don't know the piece of musics name but I did do the dance!
I have grown up with Scheryngs playing for over 50 years and I love it still, nevertheless this is also a compelling version. I like that there are a few squeaks in the IIIrd mvt, makes me feel better about my playing this! BTW, this is pure Bartok. wonderful vibrato! i think it's played too fast? not enough differentiation in the movements. sound of of the violin is not as beautiful as Hilary Hahn or Tessa Lark.
Passion? This sounds like it lacks passion. I'm Romanian & it lacks qualities & tonal characteristics that make it Romanian folk music. Don't confuse vibrato with passion. The notes themselves are stale here, this isn't the worst attempt I've heard, Midori's is far worse but this is nowhere near the best. The notes may be Bartok rooted in folk melodies but doesn't have the tonal flavor of even an average genuine folk violinist from a real ensemble. Then again a real folk ensemble is usually made up of superior musicians when compared to what classical academic pedagogy churns out.
On youtube Oistrakh & Tessa Lark stand out for me. They have genuineness & mastery to their technique, even tho they're different from each other. I'm sure there's more, but those 2 definitely have a genuine vibe & feel.
