I wanted to watch an actual play of this game. I always skim the videos to catch any SCREAM LAUGHTER. Ya'll are one of the only groups that dont do that. Thank you!
Just picked up a copy of the game and the mysteries book! I'm hearing different pronunciation all over the place. Is it pronounced "vay-sen", "vee-sen", or "vess-sen"?
Even much later reply with a guide to scandinavian vowels! Ä (or Æ) = A+E, Ö (or Ø) = O+E, Å = A+O. Hence why they're often written out that way in english, Sjöberg becomes Sjoeberg, Åstad becomes... Aastad (because double a was historically the way to write it before Å existed), Väsen becomes Vaesen Except! A ton of vowel sounds in english are diphthongs (2 or more vowel sounds following each other), especially how you read out the alphabet, like A = "ey". In swedish, vowels (which include Y btw) are "flat", as in make a single mouth shape. So by "A+E" I don't mean "A into E", but "the sound in between A and E". For example, reading out the alphabet in swedish, A makes the sound from "bar". And since Ä makes the vowel sound from "air", I would actually explain it as "Vairsen, but the R is silent". A posh english person pretty much says "ä" when they're saying "air"
@@Ozasuke Another thing that you don't need to worry about a lot unless you seriously wanted to learn swedish is "long vs short vowels", but it's kinda neat that it's a "system". You can say long is the "default", and what you use when reading out the alphabet, and short is (usually) when it's followed by 2+ consonants (and also in a lot of "ending bits" like -a, -e, -en etc). In primary school you'll actually sit and pronounce them like "(long) A - (short) A - (long) E - (short) E -..." to help when you learn to read. Which is why you can have both "ät" and "ätt" (meaning "eat" and "[wider] family", and pronounced "airt" with silent R and "ett" respectively) So Väsen is "long Ä short E" cause of the rules above, but if you wrote it "Vässen" it _would_ be pronounced like "Vess-sen", "short Ä short E" (there IS a small difference between short Ä and short E, but small enough that depending on the dialect you might not even hear it. Maybe like english "bat" vs "bet")
Matthew GM'd a short game of Dragonbane for us at MCM London 2023, thanks man, thoroughly enjoyed it! I ended up getting it and my friend got Vaesen, top quality products. And the art is just *chef's kiss*
I am loving this. I got Vaesen for Christmas and I'll be buying A-Wicked-Secret through drivethrurpg.com I am eager to see what my players shall make of it!
