You generally do not need a lot of internal examinations when you're pregnant. I gave birth recently and this was the only time I needed to have cervical examinations to check dilation. I won't lie - it was uncomfortable but it was not unbearable especially with gentle nurses who stopped when I asked them to and let me breathe and focus on unclenching my pelvic floor muscles. I have primary vaginismus.
