Rob has made me want to play games that I've previous played and disliked. The way he narrates it makes it feel like a totally different game than I played. And he does so without lying or exaggerating the details.
I love watching you enjoy yourself playing a videogame, I love watching you get murdery while not enjoying a videogame so much, but OMG you really shine when writing and delivering something like this.
Don't even need a remaster, it is already perfect. Just re-release it for modern consoles. I might need to get my PS3 fixed. I still have the original disc.
I doubt the New Generation gamers will appreciate this game... Mind you this game is hard especially when you are trying to do the "Chain" damage... Hahahaha nowadays players get irritated picking up loots
Everyone loved (and still loves) the old friday features format, but we all have to agree that now that the team has a little bit more time to work on friday videos, they are becoming better and better every week. This one was as brilliant as the game it portrays, Nath’s on last week was so deep and filled with references from other art forms, Rosie’s and Ash’s entries were so relatable. Access is the dream team of RU-vid, by far my favorite channel and the perfect entertainment source for everyone that loves games.
So glad you spoke up about this truly amazing game! Still an all time favorite of mine, and I've always been baffled at how it wasn't a huge success when it came out. Just ahead of its time, I suppose.
This is such beautiful storytelling from Rob that it brought a tear to my eye, even though I've never played this game. The best channel on RU-vid by far!
Guess you haven't watched one of the episodes where Rob and Dave train to beat some Pro FIFA players 2 or 3 years ago. Trust me, look for it and enjoy. ;)
I wish this was true, but it's slightly incorrect. It's part of the Ivalice alliance of games, however Yasumi Matsuno has stated that it specifically does not take place in Ivalice, and is not part of the world of FFT and the others
You're partly correct, FF XIV's Ivalice content is absolutely not canon to the rest of those games, though it's still quite a treat for fans nevertheless
@@gregtiwald Prior to 2011, he had said that it was in ivalice (a view supported by a good bit of evidence.) It wasn't until he left Square Enix that he apparently changed his mind. Since Square has the rights to the Ivalice setting and he's expressed interest in developing a VS sequel, that change of mind likely had more to do with rights ownership than his true initial intentions.
This video has been very timely. For the past few days, ever since the announcement that the PS store for PS3, PSP, and PS Vita are closing mid year this year, I've been thinking whether or not to buy a digital copy of this game for PSVita before they disappear.
Biggest regret is having never finished this game, did experience it all watching my dad though so it's still one of of my favourite games ever it's that good!
Don't you just love it when Rob and Nath remind us that they're brilliant writers? I just need Rob to do a video about Jade Cocoon now, to satisfy a very particular bit of 90s nostalgia itchiness that I have.
I’m surprised so many people familiar with this title I literally did everything in this game from building the strongest weapons to defeating all the extra bosses one of the best titles square came out with and the ended lefty plenty room for a sequel I would love to see them revisit this IP. Me and Rob got a lot of similar tastes in games I salute you.
in a way they did... Final Fantasy Tactics, Final Fantasy Tactics Advance, and Final Fantasy XII. I would love to see a refinement of the system and style of the game, but the aesthetic lives on in the other titles set in Ivalice.
Ahh the good old PlayStation magazines. I live in Greece and we had the Greek versions here and I remember I had magazines from ps1 to ps3 era before they shut down due to financial problems. Good old times 😞
Rob, I seriously love the way you look at games and the way you play them. Following your thinking has made me enjoy games even more than I used to. Thanks
I was one of those plebs that fell early in the game, lol. It wasn't totally what I was expecting, and it was hard, and so I played it for a bit but then dropped it and started another project. Found my very pristine copy today and it got me looking the game up again here and viola, here I am! Great video, maybe I should try it again sometime.
My favourite Access video so far. I actually got emotional at the end. I've had this on my shelf since it launched, and I just bought the PS One classic on Vita and PS3 two nights ago. I'd love an option to play it on my PS5. It's an incredible game. Truly unique, as Rob says.
One my favorite games that I played over and over again. Even when you beat the game initially you still didn't explore all Lea Monde! I believe it was a 125% is when it was fully explored...plus you fought some tough bosses in those extra rooms!
One of the best and most unique pioneers, it was an amazing journey playing it on the PS1 without having internet to find help. I had to figure out everything on my own, it was really hard and frustrating, I had to start from the beginning many times when I got stuck, but it was absolutely worth it. Nice review mate😁✌️
Thank you for giving this amazing game the love it deserves! Yes, I played it back in the day, and I'll say it's probably in my top 10 favorites. But those cutscenes! That direction! That dialogue! I've never seen anything like it since. To me, this game might have the best presentation of all time; a bold statement, I know, but if you've played the game you know what I mean!
I remember getting this game when I was like 12. Played it for about 2-3 hrs and quit due to frustration. Started it up out of boredom 6 months later and everything just clicked. I would set my alarm to go off two hours early just play this game some more before school.
I watched this video weeks ago, but I had to come back just to say that it was one of the most thoughtful and well-written scripts I've ever seen on RU-vid. It truly amazed me.
Beautiful game. I put a lot of hours into it that left me with unforgettable memories. I still have the music for the Undercity and listen to it sometimes. I also still remember the sword I had for dark-affinity enemies: it was called "Indulgence".
Ah, strategy guides. Those were the days. I still have all of my PiggyBack FF8-13 guides. They're glorious! I love them. They are my children. No you can't touch or read or use them!
Dude i can't believe you really cover one of my favorite game ever. It is a very difficult game but god i love the difficult curve in this game. Thank you my dude. (Bananas against dragons how that it never occurred to me) lol
You make me feel like I missed put never really digging into this game years ago. My teenage self just couldn't get into the slow-moving combat and dry dialog. Such a shame. Looking back, the game seems quite cool.
I remember the grind to get the usable version of the last bosses weapon The Holy Win. That jacked-up 2 handed sword that looks like the game's crosslike logo, having to farm an low chance RNG-appearing Undead Knight enemy only found in new game+ !and! he only has a miniscule chance of dropping it. Giving me flashbacks of FF12 RNG hunts and item farming now as well.
Loved this game, it has a steep learning curve at the beginning the first time I played it I got frustrated and stopped playing it for days. Then came back to it and started to understand how it all worked being a more satisfying game overall. We definitely won't see nothing like it again.
Finally!! Some recognition for my favourite RPG of all time. I really hope the PS5 (when I can get one) will allow backward compatability so I can stream the hell out of this. I try to play it every year since that first time I bought it and every time I am enthralled with everything that you noted in your exposition. A master class in gaming.
PS1 was the best era for RPGs, so many experimentation and variety, the golden age of Square when they made masterpieces every year. Compared to nowadays when most RPGs are the sameish Action RPGs with minimal differences between them.
I played VS for the first time last year. And yes, it's hard as balls. Super unique. And we need MORE of this universe, this system, those characters, that storytelling and style. That ending promises so much, and we were left with so little afterwards...
It's technically part of The Ivalice Alliance although Tactics and XII in particular do share the same style but in a different manner. It's also only that in retrospect.
Glad to see you back Rob, really miss those friday features. Thank you for all the wonderful memories! Ps1 was the best era for rpgs, so many classics!
DUDE!!! I'M sooooo happy to hear and see that there are others like me that absolutely adore this game!! I not one of those that went full in-depth and made every weapon from Damascus, but I had a pretty damn good set for my level of play. Heck by my 4th okay through I didn't need Ashley to equip weapons he was so powerful.. But damn, WHAT A GAME! WHAT AN EXPERIENCE! I get chills thinking about it 😊 I love this game!!!
That game was amazing for it’s time. I was so young to understand how amazing it was when I was playing it for the first time and now I see the beauty of it.
Managed to make the "Holy Sword" of Holy Swords, and absolute beast of a sword. Great game mechanics, had to be spot on with timing.Never to be repeated.
It was very tough to get into, but it rewarded the commitment and perseverance. Especially on New Game Plus, where I eventually grew strong enough to win the final fight with a single hit.
I remember spending hours using those elixirs and if I did not get a +4, I would reset the game and try again. The loading times on that game are so long but I didn't care! I would say this game is in my top 5 all time!
Ps1s finest, from the intro where seamless transition from cut scene to boss battle, years ahead of its time, hands down ps1s best game...need a remake!!
OK so i know i'll immediately get the "the graphics haven't aged well" comments but in all honesty this art style still looks gorgeous today, no other PS1 game looked this phenomenal 😊
This is the best looking 3D game on the PS1 in my opinion. Yes the texture have aged, yes there is the classic PS1 deformation of the models and textures... But the design of it all is stunning. The city, the buildings, the characters and enemies. Great work. It's brillant.
It may have technically aged, because it's a twenty year old game, of course modern games are going to have better graphics... but because the art design is so strong I still count it among the best-looking games I've played.
Broke my back mid 2000 and this game and hogs of war saved me from months of boredom. The only two games I've ever wanted to see get remade in the endless sea of remakes and remasters
This is one game I really need to play. It's sitting next to my FF's and I keep finding myself wanting to sit down down finally play thru it. Maybe one day I keep telling myself BUT rob is right. The opening scene is amazing and really gets you pumped for the game. Wonderful writing and great music tied to it.
I love this game! This one is my all time favorite. I truly wish they made a sequel or at least a remake. The only disappointment this game has is the difficulty on new game plus was just not hard enough, I feel.
