He’s also toured or recorded with Harry Nilsson, Ivan Neville, Wilson Phillips, Michael Penn, Lucinda Williams, Shelby Lynne, Seal, Johnny Hallyday, Gov’t Mule, Katey Sagal, Wallflowers, Sheryl Crow, Randy Newman, Gregg Allman. As a solo artist, Val’s released 3 LPs: At The End of the Day, Chateauguay, and his latest, Beau Bow de Lune. He also is part of the band Jackshit and has released 3 LPs: Jackshit, The Welcome Nugget, & Fresh Shit.

Jackson Browne’s “I’ll Do Anything “ is just about the best concert on RU-vid. With JB’s great songs, Sara and Sean Watkins and Val, it is beautiful from start to finish. They make it appear effortless - like they’re all best friends having fun playing exceptional music together. Val’s fills and solos are perfect.

Wow! Thanks so much for posting this interview! I have been a huge Val fan ever since I had the opportunity to see Jackshit a couple of times at the ‘Tater while traveling to LA. Life changing moments seeing such accomplished musicians letting their hair down and having fun playing obscure cover songs! Thanks again and keep up the great work!

Valentine is THE schnizzle! Fabulous, brilliant talent sans celebrity ego. Val's ability to lead and/or follow (and compliment/support/hear) other talents (ie. JB, and more) is inspirational. Great interview, I discovered Val while listening to Jackson Brown lately, it interesting learning about his young life and all the people he has known. His guitar playing is fantastic, as a guitar player I can really appreciate his tasty playing.

How interesting. Val, was it in reference to the Victory Tour, you mention a guy who looked like Hendrix. Was that guy possibly a dude named Greg Wright? It's a small world when it comes to musicians. I worked at Capricorn Studio for Johnny Sandlin and the Allman Brothers. There was a guy in Macon, Ga. at that time who played guitar and would come around the house. He looked alot like Hendrix. That guys name was Greg Wright and i heard a few years down the road that he got a gig with Michael Jackson, which was kind of a shock as he was a real rock n roll kind of guy. I enjoyed hearing the Gregg A. stories. I knew him but i never heard many stories about the Gregg Allman Band and the Friends escapades. Jamming with Michael and having Robben Ford for a while i would never have imagined! It blew my mind and i got a few chuckles hearing your perspective. Wondering if you knew Les Dudek, he was in Macon for a minute and almost became a member of the ABB, but it didn't work out. He did play on Dickey Betts' song Jessica on the album. Sounds like you've rubbed elbows with many over the years, so was just curious. Great interview! I learned some things and i thoroughly enjoyed the time. Thanks! PS. totally love Al Greene! Stay Together is one of my all time favorite songs. ❤ I wish I could've traded places with you at that time! Also absolutely love Lucinda. Wow I'm no stranger to stage fright and panic attacks, so I can relate. I carried a small brown paper bag along with me for years. Breathing into that thing would straighten me out right away, it worked. I imagine I looked silly but not as silly as a scene I probably would have made running out of the building screaming! Panic Attacks can be real bears.😮😊❤

@@EveryoneLovesGuitar One last thing… Now Val doesn’t know me from Adam’s house cat, but I looked him up and “friended” him on FB after seeing the concert video of him playing with Jackson Browne. Never thought more about it. Months later, I randomly saw a concert video of Cindy Lauper doing some country song. I thought it was pretty odd but was I pretty impressed with her effort. So, I posted the video to FB with some positive comments. Imagine my surprise when, out of the blue, Val responded to my post saying it(Lauper’s performance) was pretty lame and at best, mediocre. 😂 Maybe it was bad, 🤷‍♂️ but I was more struck that Val had seen it, and even more so, cared enough to chime in on my novice take. 😂

I love Val. His playing is distinctive and when you've listened to him you begin to learn him. I wasn't aware that his Dad was David McCallum. He was a long standing character in The Man From U.N.C.L.E who was called Illya Kuryakin. He had a trendy and cool hair style back in the 1960s and everyone who could get away with it tried to imitate his haircut. Cool family with a lot of talent. Val playing with Gregg Allman musta been in the mid-Seventies

Gregg kept his band going and toured around the country from mid 70s until his death in 2017. I believe he used his band to record his final album Southern Blood in Muscle Shoals. The Allman Brothers band retired from performing in 2014 . Rest easy Gregg ❤
