And as a UM fan, there's a lot of shit talking...but everyone knows that if Dantonio gets a different staff on offense (and MSU can even be average on offense), MSU will be right there again and the two teams will be going back-and-forth.
Rivalries are only truly good when they don't become one-sided. I'm super happy that this one has been a 50/50 battle so far in the Harbaugh era. Now, if he could only beat that OTHER team, the one that resides down south a little ways... ;-)
Andrew Geahan Michigan was better last year. You got lucky Michigan had no quarterback, and a shaky line. Had 5 turnovers and you barely won by 4. Take those turnovers away Michigan wins that game to.
@@javiersanchez1661 A team with no QB and bad line wouldn't be the better team. I could use this exact same logic to say MSU is better this year. They just have a bad QB and the entire receiving corp is injured. You had amazing field position all game. MSU couldn't even get a first down and you won by only 2 posessions. They didn't have to score off the turnovers to beat you last year. They just had to hold you to 10 and it was over. No. Michigan wasn't better last year. Typical Michigan fan though. Talking about the past even when they win.
Andrew Geahan With all those problems Michigan had you only won by 4. Msu would of lost that game without the turnovers. 5 turnovers and only win by 4 do the math. lol
@@javiersanchez1661 You don't get to claim to be the better team when you commit 5 turnovers! You idiot. Good teams don't do that. Jesus you UM fans and your low football IQs and inability to grasp reality. 10-3 > 8-5 "Do the math" ya moron.
rob scotney he’s not like all the Michigan homers on 97.1...he actually bashes MSU when needed. Wish Michigan fans did that to their program and not be full of excuses every time
@@zacm5618 How's Lewerke's "injury" going? When your offensive coordinator, quarterback, and head coach all have different reasons of why Lewerke was off. Don't say shit about excuses my man.
No way he talks shit about michigan basketball. He acted like no one cared lol when ur a michigan fan that definitely includes basketball too. He was salty cuz sparty wrnt 0-2 last season vs Mich
Daniel Mcgreevy I’m not “your man.” That’s a disgrace to me. Second of all...MSU’s entire offense is injured besides Brian Lewerke. That’s is a legit excuse. Michigan fans blame the rain or the spot of the ball. They don’t take the L like a man. You didn’t go to Michigan buddy.
Oh behave get a grip. It’s okay for you guys to blame injuries on a loss but Michigan was missing its best player and its best WR? Or how about last year when Michigan was playing their 3rd string QB against you guys? No? I guess only spartan fans can use excuses lol. Also. 97.1 has trashed this Michigan team PLENTY. That just shows you don’t pay much attention after all.
Darzae Alonzo If anything it will bump his stock. He didn’t do anything illegal similar to Jamies , and that didn’t even mean anything. This shows he has passion for the game, NFL teams love that.
For once totally agree with his points. MSU was dominated, and needs to be able to take licks and move on. Don’t expect to punk Michigan for 10 years, and get pissed when they punk you back.
MSU Fans 2017: Haha Take the L Michigan. You suck, we’ll beat you next year too! MSU fans 2018: I don’t care, you were lucky, we won last year and 8/11. We’ll beat you next year too. MSU fans 2019: ..................We won in 2015
@Iraq Lobsta!! 45 sorry buddy, last i check i can only myself 1 like, not 2. At least you might make the outback bowl. thats something to look foward to. I already have big 10 championship tickets.
Michigan players have been saying for weeks that they hate the Michigan st players on a personal level. This is a flatout lie what valenti is saying that they have not acknowledged it.
Fantastic commentary, unfortunately I dont dantonio making the changes necessary to push this program forward. He s been with this staff 10+ years, and have had success with them. People have a tendency to predict the past but every team is evolving other than MSU. I believe him turning the program around from a 3-9 season to a 10- 3 season gave him more evidence that all was fine on the western front. Although as a michigan fan I want Harbaugh to release the reigns and hire an OC, given the results I've witness, I have no complaints.........yet. He hired wariner, OL has made progress, mcelwain, receivers made progress. Defense is top 3 every year since they hired don brown. Michigan is competing with ohio state.....period. MSU will find themselves sliding down that ladder because dantonio is too damn stubborn to turn the program around.
Couldn't disagree more. Dantonio,is tough and set in his ways. Ways, that against all odds made him and MSU a winner. And he did it with class, decency and honor. But no one is perfect. No one can due it when your team is a mash Ward. But Dantonio, because he's a winner and because most of the all,he wants it for MSU,he will adapt to go to that final level. But he will do it by the rules. And the classless, arrogant antics of Michigan once again won't stop MSU or their coach. In fact it will lead to an ironclad resolve to win it all. It may not happen next year. But happen soon it will. And when that day dawns, and Our players hoist the most cherished trophy in college football above their heads and raise their coach above their shoulders, they will against all the odds send off their coaches exit with the greatest finish one can get. A deserved one. One that will be done in ultimate victory with class, decency, humility and honor. Just like what their coach always,at the heart of it,was about, and what he ingrained into his players. Champions that are true winners, because their character are champions as well.
@@fredbilak2330 Hey fred You ve already conceded my point, in your analysis everything you said after the word " adapt" is absolutely true. Assuming your an MSU fan, do you disagree with the commentary above? Because I agree with everything this man has to say about msu. We can trade character barbs all day but I was the first one to say michigan sucks 4-5 years and it was MSU that was dominant. The tide has turned and if msu wants to compete they have to get back to their 2012-2014 ways, that's all. Look forward to continuing this discussion.
I love Mike and MSU but like Mike I look at thing realistically. To be honest M is not going anyway. Harbaugh should be 4-0 against Mark and M is getting better by the year while we are sliding back. Forget the pregame stuff I could care less about that or the "Little Brother" stuff.... just recruit better and get better coaches. Just have to wonder if at his age Mark has lost the fire he had when he first got here.
jack harrington Well, both of you guys are right. Ohio State wasn’t that much better but still better. Harbaugh can’t call a good play. Running on 1st and 2nd down ugh
And...? They always have...The last 10 years they (UM schmucks) had their panties in a knot because the narrative didn't work...1 Win..?? gotta get about 5 more in a row then I'll say it meant something.
dontwann1 Nobody cares when you’ll arbitrarily decide it “means something.” Sorry but football didn’t start 10 years ago. If you want to talk history then Michigan owns MSU and it’s not even close. If you want to talk here and now, Michigan beat MSU in dominant fashion and Harbaugh has reestablished Michigan as the premier program in the state. I hope you enjoyed the worst decade in Michigan football history because you’re back to fighting with Penn State, Iowa and Wisconsin for third best in the conference for the foreseeable future
Exactly nobody cares about you..... you've proven the point with the derelict typical Michigan punk fan response.....For that let me be like you..."Michigan only won because the weather ....the ref didn't make calls...QB was hurt...best recievers hurt"...if all those things didn't happen we would've won"...That's what MSU fans been hearing from Michigan fans for 10 years...lol!!
Javier Sánchez MSU could have stomped Michigan a lot worse than they did in recent years also. 2013 MSUs offense barely did anything and still won 29-6.
Javier Sánchez so you missed the point then I guess. Also when someone acknowledges we got beat and gives your team props you feel the need to continue to drive the point home. Will never understand your fan base.
LOL!! We always hear this shit every 5 years when UM wins. Funny but it never seems to work out that way. As long as Dantonio is coach. little brother will kick Big Bro's ass most of the time!! Enjoy your "little run."
Die hard State fan but I would have to agree with the people who said we wernt that good in '15. We weren't. Compare '15 team to the '13 team and its night and day. 13' would win 10 out of 10 times because they were elite. 15' was not elite they had a hell of a season and turned every game into a dog fight and came put on top, but we had ALOT of bounces go our way. And we got exposed by bama. Hell of a year but never felt like that team was elite outside the heart they had.
Jake Kingsbury that’s facts, I truly believe if the playoff existed in ‘13 Michigan State would have had a very good chance to win it all but they were not a top 4 team in 2015
@@bradykane8917 Honestly we should have played Florida state for the natty that year. A two loss Auburn team got in over us because they had the miracle kick six happen vs bama.... what could have been... that was completely political why we didn't get to play for a natty.
Jake Kingsbury Auburn only had one loss to LSU early in the season going into the 2013 national title game. They finished with two losses, but only had one going in.
You are absolutely right Mike, but MD won't fire nobody! He is too loyal to his staff! For him they are one big family, their wife's exchanging presents for Christmas! If they are going down, they are going down together, that's how it is! Sad!
I fear this is the case. MSU has no administration that can force Dantonio to do anything. You think John Engler gives a crap? He's counting days until he can escape. Our zero of an AD? He can't take a piss unless the Mark and Tom tell him it's okay.
He's gotta do it....Fandom aside...the truth is everybody has upgraded coaching and schematics...MSU hasn't ...it really hit the wall at the playoff against Alabama ....Harbaugh been hiring everybody he can(NFL) he can bringing in every transfer qb he can to get to a next step....
If MSU wants to stay competitive against the big boys of the big ten, then they have to make staff changes. Warner and company need to go. I love what Dantonio has done during his tenure, but he needs to evolve. Otherwise we will be going back to the John L. Smith level of mediocrity.
This couldn't have affected them. "www.usatoday.com/sports/ncaaf/michigan-state/injuries/all/" 17 players out or questionable. Lewerke looked horrible. He had a few sure td passes that he wasn't even close with.
Agree with you great207. This season has had the odor of John L. on it for me and I don't have the time or the patience for it. If we want to be big time and win big things, we need to be willing to give the axe to people that aren't performing. And, if the head coach isn't willing to do that, then his boss needs to be willing to do the business. I appreciate Dantonio for what he's done but if his stubbornness lands us right back where we started in 2006, it could be argued that he would've then accomplished NOTHING. I want sustained progress, sustained growth and development. I don't want a flash in the pan rose bowl berth and return to mediocrity for the next 10-20 years. The unfortunate thing is, this year is the harvest from not making the tough decision after going 3-9. Our talent level reflects the obstinate decision to retain underperforming staff. spartygrad - injuries are a factor, but every team has injuries and every year teams muddle through it. Not gaining 100 yards is completely unacceptable. Lewerke shouldn't have played at all. Period. I'd rather have a healthy backup than an injured starter, and the proof is in the pudding. 25% of his passes completed for 66 yards? And there seemed to be no plan whatsoever to deal with any of it. It's all very disappointing.
As a Michigan fan yes I wanted that to happen, its good for the State of Michigan and college football. Last, year we had the highest ranking on tv. It was a great game, sorry to see Davis go out I had that guy to be an Lions pick or Minn pray he have a speedy recovery. Go Blue!!!
No , michigans real rival is ohio state. Us u of m slappies hate ohio state, msu is irrelevant. Just another team. Its the msu fans , players, fanboys and fangirls, walmart msu fans that hate everything about u of m. State hates that we don't consider them a rival. Hes got it backwards. Msu wants us to hate them . msu fans need to worry more about the larey nasr issue and how your school runs programs and protects their students. To me only good thing to come out of east lansing is interstate 69. every single u of m player could make academics at michigan state and make the team, half the msu squad couldn't make michigans team because of lack of gpa. They are jealous of u of m
Y'all are our biggest in state rival no question but the most important game will always be on the last weekend of November. Too much at stake with those games.
Your welcome Mike... Little brother got slapped around and there is much more to come!!! Revenge tour rages on boys!!! Poor Mike acting like he's happy about the result this weekend... Still love the show...
Hey Valenti...your QB was "throwing it into the 3rd row all day" because he was giddy from being hit, sacked, and knocked down the whole game..quit trying to blame it on the OC...
Toufu Yang it’s a shame Michigan fans can’t bash their program like valenti bashes his. All you hear from 2/3 of Michigan fans is excuses when they lose. “It’s the rain.” “It’s the spot.” Wish they could just take an L
Great segment...loved it...this rivalry is for REAL now and as a UM fan im glad the team and Harbaugh took this game the same as an OSU game. The rivalry is great for both schools recruiting and national attention, alot of people were talking about this game and its great for both schools!!! GO BLUE!!!
State players make tackles and then grind the kid into the ground after the whistle and were in Michigan's face all game trying to pump up a team that NEVER had a chance. The best player on that team is a walk on on Defense that's it.
That ain't true. And you know it. C'mon, man. This game was not only a rivalry game, but it was for control of the Big 10 East, setting up a showdown vs. Ohio State that will punch the winner's ticket to the B10 championship game.
Luther Odaniels furthest thing from an O$U fan bud. I shouldn’t be wasting my time with you cause you didn’t go to Michigan. This game against MSU mattered the world to you...you for some reason don’t want to admit it. Dantonio is still 8-3 against you losers who don’t know what Indy looks like. NEXT.
MSU has no running game and had been floating relying on Lewerke to throw it 50 times a game. Against a pass defense like Michigan, passing it a bunch wasnt gonna get it done. MSU’s line is atrocious. For Michigan, it’s on to Penn State. The expectation now is Indianapolis. Win and get there
MSU didn't have its top 3 recievers ,qb hurt and O- line non-existent...This is one of coach Dantonio's worse years....Michigan,OSU and PSU have pro coordinators and its starting to take notice because Michigan looked" prepared and in sync" ...while MSU was "hoping things work out".... Dantonio needs coaching over haul with assistants
@MaybeNextTime Nah sorry. The offense blew since game one. With all starters available. Warner is terrible. Lewerke is a MAC quarterback. Period. Until they change the offensive staff, we will be getting our shit pushed in for a looooong time. Actually...the offense has sucked since 2015 in my opinion.
To me the bigger story Saturday was Ohio State being owned by Purdue. It shows OSU is vulnerable. Michigan should be laser-focused now to beat them. All roads to a national championship do NOT lead through Michigan State (sorry Sparty). It's "always" about beating Ohio State, and it's about time Michigan starts treating that game like it should (and like they used to). 🏈👌
Under Dantonio, the defense will always be there. I have said and believe more now then ever, that the key to getting a championship, with him is offense. He gets great quarterbacks. He is a great coach, motivator. If he can just get an explosive offense that let's it all out,he can get to that final level. I disagree, also with analysis of this game. By late in third quarter, everything was going Dantonios way. Tough defense, the weather and poor offense by Mich was leading to a victory, the way this coach does it. Then MSU gets ball BK at basically midfield, with game tied 7-7 a penalty then makes it First and 20. In this game forget it. But Michigan had lost field poccession, and way they were playing, looked to be in trouble if backed down to their goal line. So coach played conservative. Punted and Michigan backed up,made a gamble on long pass,on first down. Wasn't expected. With our injuries combined with that,it worked. And that was basically the game. Miss that pass,or sack the quarterback on the attempt, and I believe Dantonio would have won. Been acclaimed as a brilliant game plan with what he had as what Michigan had, etc. But that's what happens, when you reley to much on defense. You can win it all with a great defense and just a good offense But you seldom win it all with a great defense and just an average offense. Especially when your quarterback wasn't at his greatest. That's what happened here. If your a betting man,and know Dantonio,he will despite his stubborn streak do what is needed. Just like Harbough said after Norte Dame loss this was the beginning not the end, look to a great coach said words for what will happen. Dantonio said, they will look at and do what is needed to correct, where MSU is at. And in a few years,as Dantonio retires off the field, hoisted on his shoulders of his players in ultimate triumph, one last time, this coached words will in the end,be backed up in actions, not just words.
Once again Valenti fucking nailed it!! Dantonio needs make mega changes or he needs to go. One stubborn man running a half way home for his friends who are shitty coaches is NOT bigger than the program itself. I doubt he will change anything though and our current dipshit administration/AD will be either to inept or feckless to challenge him on it. MSU needs a hard reset across the board and needs it NOW. Tell Dantonio to ride off into the sunset a hero, before he becomes the villain, and go get Ryan Day, Luke Fickell, or Matt Campbell and actually give them the money to fill out a quality young innovative coaching staff...or sink back into 6-6 mediocrity for a decade or more. Again.
The rivalry had already been on Mike! You got destroyed in 2016, and a once in a million freak win, mich had already outplayed MSU in 2 of 3 meetings Harbaugh against D’antonio...
Mike, at 9:14 you hit the nail on the head as to why MSU has hit their peak and will not again reach the same prominence while MD is there. No, not because of Harbaugh bringing in better assistants, but because Dantonio learned a lesson with Pat Narduzzi, he can't allow an assistant coach to suck the oxygen out of the air. Harbaugh hired Doctor Don Brown and Ed Warinner and is happy as a clam that they are adored by Michigan fans. Dantonio cannot and will not let that happen in East Lansing, he is emotionally unable to share the limelight of success.
11:45, the rivalry is on, dantonio quit, they got blown out this year 44 - 10, its always good to disrespect little brother, but your gunna be little brother for a while, GO BLUE
This dude is like every other MSU fan; in need of validation and acknowledgement no matter how it comes from Michigan. Coach Angry had to eat crow. They got beat far worst than the score. Thumbs down 👎
This isn’t directed at mike, but if you’re a state fan and you didn’t like what winovich said, LJ Scott called Michigan little sister in the offseason.
Well said. As a Wolverines fan, I would often tell people to stop and look at both sides. Nothing happened on Saturday that should be blamed on the coaches, and we need to stop pouting about how good the other is.
Rivalry is on dantonio need to kill the loyal bullshit and get this team more competitive I'm tired of settling for low tier bowl games time to set your sights higher and make this team competitive
I told u I'mma be back so what's up with them giants lol we got snacks it's like we got ny defense n they go play better in Detroit than ny kennard is better here Romeo is better here ny Giants is trash n the Lions is better
This was the best sports weekend ever for me LOL. My high school football team clinched that night for the playoffs, The Houston Rockets beat Lebron James and the Lakers, Michigan beat MSU, Ohio State lost to Purdue, The New England Patriots won, The Detroit Pistons and the Detroit Red Wings all won as well.
Love it! I love the college football rivalry antics. Finally Michigan treated Sparty like crap and I love it. Screw the high road, talk trash and act petty. After the game shake hands and winner has bragging rights for a year. I hope we do worst to Ohio State! Go Blue!
I like listening to Mike even though he likes to bash my Wolverines frequently. But I gotta say he seems really desperate to ensure us all that Michigan fans hate MSU. I’ve never seen a serious rivalry in sports where fans of any particular team literally have to seek out the hatred of the other side
