Do you understand how radar works? The cops are transmitting a radar signal that travels from their radar gun, hit the moving vehicle, and then comes back to the police car, and by this they can calculate your speed. Radar waves travel a long distance from the source, and the Valentine One is a VERY sensitive radar detector that can pick those signals up way before you encounter the source, in this case the police car.

i know how laser and redars work a radar the beam is big at 500 feet but a lasers beam is only about 8-12 inches wide at 500 i just dint know the valetine is that sentive. I guess you get what you pay for :) i always thought hit had to be on the windshiel so it could pick up good
