I don’t know why I never followed you here on RU-vid. I follow you and save your recipes on Pinterest. I am now your newest subscriber here. You alway’s make everything look so easy. I am going to give this a try. The corn starch has me intrigued. Can’t wait. Keep the idea’s coming. I love them. That Christmas Tree cake you made with cones was amazing!
Omg wow i love these cookies im going to make these and thankyou for putting the grams on as well as cups that is what makes me love this video more than the rest as we use grams in uk not cups so i really can make these thanks so much yehhhhh wish everyone would follow your guide i love you more now and your videos xxx
Looks absolutely delicious! And so pretty. I feel the same about corn starch! That sound..but I also use vinyl gloves if I have to touch the dry mixtures ..😋
I am a new subscriber and I absolutely love you and your videos!! I have to admit that I am more partial to your baking/dessert videos! I grew up in the kitchen watching my grandmother bake and became an avid baker myself. Due to health issues I am no longer able to do much in the kitchen, however, on my next “good” day I will be making these cookies! I absolutely loved how they turned out! These would be great for a baby shower and you could change the stripe color to pale blue for a boy! Shoot it would be easy to do pale yellow and pale green, too, if the gender has not been revealed yet. Thanks so much for sharing such great ideas with all of us! 🤗🥰😊
I hated maths at school probably because I didn't like my teacher (50+ years ago). I think if I'd had John as a teacher, I would have done so much better. I love cooking and baking too and have been using John's recipes. Never had a failure yet 😊
I'm not a fan of math, I mostly like science. I have 3 math teachers XD. Ms. Dooman, Ms. Brown, And Ms. Chocon. But I love Ms. Brown and Ms.Dooman. Math? Not so much.
1:12 Im glad I’m not the only one who hates the consistency of cornstarch. I’m a baker too and I hate handling it, even if it’s just such a weird consistency, it gives me chills haha.
I don't even want to make these. I'm just becoming addicted to watching your videos. They're so pure. Can you please post a recipe for chocolate chip cookies?
FYI if you ever make ooblick (corn starch and water science activity to teach about polymers) don’t use food coloring. Your hand will be that color for a week.
All starches feel the same. Corn starch, Potato starch, Arrowroot, Tapioca starch......If you hate to touch it, that means something is wrong with the nervous system of yours! 🙂
Loved watching this, John! What a clever way to decorate a sugar cookie to make it special for Valentine's Day. Appreciate you making this video a few weeks early which gives us all time to make the dough, etc. Your baking hints are always interesting and valuable, even to a baker of many decades. Wish you and yours an early Happy Valentine's Day!
I keep coming back to this video! These cookies are so simple yet so awesome! I think I’m going to try it for Easter, using an egg shaped cutter, with the stripes being horizontal.
Can you please make an unvalentine's day cake recipe? :D (I want to make a cake and invite my single friends to come eat it :P) PS I like how your shirt matches the pink dough
💗OMGGG! You are simply delightful! I adore your passion and creativity in all your videos! You need to have your own show on Netflix! I can’t wait to try this recipe to share with staff and students for Valentine’s Day💕💗Your level of awesomeness shot up even more when you shared you were a math teacher! You are still a fabulous teacher, and I am going to start spreading the word about you to my school family! They are sure to love you and learn to love baking with you! 🧁👨🏻🍳🍪 Thank YOU! One more thing - I love everything about your kitchen, especially the dishes and platters on the shelf - they add so much charm, and it all goes with your fabulous personality🕺🏽 You’re a 💝 gift!
I'm giving some cookies to my science teacher (6th grade science teacher) And some for my friends at the school and ranch( A ranch is a place to keep horses, I have 2 horses).
Great video! I have a cheat sheet that's posted inside my kitchen cabinet door that has the weights of my kitchenaid mixing bowls and a few other bowls that I use for baking. That way, if I forget to weigh the bowl empty, I can refer to my cheat sheet. It's helped me a number of times!
One of the problems I had in the past was using too much flour to roll out cookies. That caused them to be tough and crumbly. So others might be doing that too. I roll out sugar cookies with powdered sugar instead of flour and I haven't had that problem.
adding onto your comment about crumbly cookies and too much flour, it's important to "fluff" your flour before you scoop it, especially if it's older flour because flour will compact over time, so 1 cup of compacted flour will be too much compared to 1cup of fluffed flour. (kinda like kosher salt and table salt, the grains in table salt are smaller so a dish would end up too salty if you tried to replace table salt for kosher salt)
Soseki I am so glad he gives the weight also in grams. I bought an inexpensive scale a couple of years ago and now look for recipes in weights. It’s so much easier once you get a general idea. Don’t have to wash all the cups, can easily halve a recipe, and you don’t have to second guess whether you packed brown sugar to the density the cookbook writer intended.
I have been following you for quite some time and every time I try whatever u teach, I have never failed. U r amazing. Thank u so much😊❤️ What if I don't wanna use eggs?
I made this yesterday without dividing into colors. First time using cornstarch added to flour. Exact amounts of all ingredients were used. Cookies definitely held their shape but I thought the finished product was a bit to dry. Can I cut the cornstarch in half?
@@PreppyKitchen SURE SOME CAKE BUT THE MOST I LIKE IS COOKIES WITH THE MAGIC CORNSTARCH IDEA IT TURNED AMAAAAAAZING....THANKS ALLLLOOOT FOR ALL RECIPES IWILL TRY IT ALL..GOD BLESS YOUR HANDS
I made these cookies yesterday and it was so much fun to learn this lamination technique. I added a light flavor of raspberry (via a raspberry emulsion) to the pink dough. I wish I got more striped cookies out of the dough, but the tie die effect ones are pretty in their own way, too. Such a fun cookie and the end result of stripes is professional looking. Happy Valentine’s Day, everyone!
New subscriber you are adorable lol "I'd eat this butter mixture I would I would DO IT!!!" Your so fun those look gorgeous!!!!!!! Question do you really need to add cornstarch?!
I will be making these this coming week for my boyfriends office. I’m super excited. Could you please tell me the difference between sanding sugar and regular colored sugar . I couldn’t find anything that specifically said sanding sugar . I’m completely addicted to your channel now for sure 🤗
Hi~ I love your cookies! So beautiful and phenomena. I actually want to ask you something... 😁 Would you mind if I make cookies in your style but different color and shape with my cookie recipe? I 'd like to follow the pattern of yours and upload the making video on my channel. Also I will comment of your video. Would you mind? Please answer. 😅
My daughter's Bday is on Valentine's Day. So I decided your cookies would look beautiful. So I tried your recipe. ND WOW!! TASTE GREAT. CAME OUT BEAUTIFUL. THK U FOR SUCH A GREAT RECIPE.
omg now that you have all those colors in food dye, I hope you make at least one recipe that is super extra and rainbow-y and glittery (edible glitter) please please please lol
I just made these and they test delicious but I have to say you really make it look easy ! 😂 my 12 year old daughter is going to give them to her friends at school tomorrow - St Valentine’s
I love this recipe and want to try to make it today. I have a couple of questions. First you say if you make two back just you can freeze the rest for later. Do you mean you can freeze the batter for later? And I'm wondering if you make one recipe and divide it how many cookies do you get from that? Thank you! I love your videos❤
I made these today!!!! They came out beautiful and delicious, I just made two batches like suggested since I don’t have a scale and now I have SO many cookies, which will be given to pretty much everyone I know because if I tried to eat them all myself I’d probably die. Since I didn’t have sanding sugar I mixed rainbow sprinkles into the white dough instead, and they’re super cute and colorful and very tasty!!
I made these today and was really looking forward to the striping but even though I followed the recipe exactly it was crumbly and wouldn't stand up to separating the stripes. The cookies turned out beautifully otherwise, maybe I chilled it too long, I don't know.
As an ex pastry chef. You're wrong about why your mixture is too dry. In all professional pastry recipes you need to weigh the eggs. Eggs vary greatly in size. You need to say 140 g of egg not just 2 eggs. Having said that, I love your channel and especially your metric measurements!
I had to laugh. You said, "I would eat this," referring to the whipped butter and sugar. I ate so much of it while making my sugar cookies. I'm just watching a few videos while my dough chills for 20 minutes.
Sorry to say but I used you sugar cookie recipi yesterday and messured everything just right and I found the cookies very hard and very flouwery tasting. They are not crumbly at all. Think that children will not be able to bite them. I baked them at 160 C for just 12 minutes. I also noticed that in this recipi you use 3/4 cup cornstatch and in the glass windw cookies you use 1/ 2 a cup.
I was in the worst mood imaginable and I was like you know what I wanna make some Valentine’s Day cookies so I chose this video’s recipe and it made my day. 💕💘🍪
Everything time I watch his video, I only look at his face. It’d be nice if he only uploads just details how to make things without showing his face as well, so I can concentrate on making cake or coffee,.. I mean cookies that he presents…😎😎😎
4 cups of flour 3/4 of a cup of corn starch 3/4 - 1 teaspoon of salt 1 cup of room temp. butter 1 cup of white sugar 2 room temp eggs 1 tbs. vanilla extract Couple drops of pink food coloring A lot of sanding sugar
I tried this recipe weighed everything out, mixed everything perfectly, chilled rolled and cut stripes. Picking the stripes up was a freakin hot mess and dismal failure. I tossed it!
Probably ridiculous question, but do you know calorie count for these? Trying to get booty in shape, but need some sweetness or will go insane and take everyone down with me... figured few of these would help keep the sanity. Thanks.
Some feedback for those that have a crumbly dough. Yes I believe you if you say you measured your flour accurately. Because not all flours are the same. Different brands do give different results. Unfortunately a cheaper flour is not always the best choice. Find one that works for you and stick with it.
Tried making this for Valentine’s Day and it was a disaster. It kept breaking on me every time I tried picking up the dough strips. Maybe I didn’t put enough oil?
I used to break my eggs directly into the bowl until one time when I was making paté choux and dropped the shell in the bowl with the egg while the it was mixing. Now I break them into a bowl! Regardless, your cookies look great and am going to make them. I'll let you know if they pass my 15 yr old son's taste test...hahaha!
this recipe is amazing!! I made these for my first proper valentines day and they went so great!! this video was so easy to follow and you make everything so clear! i made these a few days before valentines as well, just as a 'trial' run incase the recipe didn't quite go as planned but it was perfect!! literally no faults!! i didn't use the sanding sugar as you suggested, instead i went for the simple/plain look of just striped hearts but they were still beautiful to look at!! your whole account seems great and I'm hoping to branch out my baking horizon using your channel! thanks so much:) 5 stars!!!!!!!!!
I made this recipe . I'm pretty advanced in the kitchen. However the measurements are off and leaves the dough really dry and crumbly. I had to introduce water to the batter to make it even close to be able to manipulate it. The stripping is a pain because the dough recipe is off. All in all this recipe looks pretty but is very unsatisfactory in in taste and recipe.
I had sone trouble putting them back in the fridge after i rolled them , what is the best way to do this ? My pink broke doesn’t look ad good as the white
Hi can you answer this simple question where do you buy that whole case of colors ? I hope you can answer because every time I ask you a question you never reply
Love your videos!! I found you on the stained glass cookie video and have been coming back ever since. You explain things so well and also add your quirky personality to everything which makes these easy and fun to watch. Makes perfect sense that you were once a teacher! Thank you!!
