Decadent and so out of touch with the current times is what I feel, regardless of this stuff translating into a commercial success, thanks to good marketing and communication strategies and not the desirability of wearing reruns of vintage mixed and matched looks. More than reviving the style and allure of VALENTINO GARAVANI ,it feels more like a parody.

“Out of touch with the current times”. The current times = fast fashion and overproduction as the dominant force in fashion, while the planet burns and suffers to keep the needs of a global society that is completely obsessed about uncontrolled progress and technological innovation. Michele understands our times more than you, clearly. By communicating with a younger generation that values the slower pace and creativity of the past as a solution to counter the singularity we are being forced into, while maintaining a rigorous attention to tailoring AND still paying hommage to Valentino’s archive from the 70s, he is managing to revive Valentino after many years of staying in the back seat of the flow of our times. Dipping into the past to push the Maison forward. It’s not really rocket science, but it still seems to be flying way past “PeePs” (pun intended) heads…

The current times? We’ve been doing minimalism and streetwear for long enough. This seems like a genuine enough homage to Garavani. The goal of any new creative director is not to emulate the heritage flat out but to pay tribute to the house codes in the director’s own style. I think this collection in styling, prints and fabrics does both. Strong debut

Gucci part 100. Horrible! This guy just needs to do his own label. Valentino is not hipster! Valentino is elegance. Luxury. This is Gucci aesthetics. HARD PASS. Cool film though. But it should say GUCCI at the end.

The board of Valentino clearly knew what they were doing. The Americanization (or better, dumbification) of the Valentino average client (or just internet groupie) during PPP is so evident at every post, video, campaign recently released that it becomes obvious why Michele is such a necessary hire for the house to revive its ACTUAL true heritage. Glad Michele is here to move the brand forward and at the same time back to what it should have always been, bold, creative tailoring. Not pink suits trademarked by Pantone for Wall Street executives to wear on a weekend “business” trip in Miami.
