I have a memory I can see and feel clear as day. After doing coke all night, it was about 7 am and I was out of blow. I looked out the window and saw a man walking out of a market with a coffee and a newspaper. I’ll never forget how I felt, how much I wished I had gone to bed at 10 pm, and had awoken feeling good, going out to grab a coffee and the paper. Thank God I got out of that. Nowadays I won’t even drink because I’m not willing to waste a day to a hangover.

Yeah Nick I remember when coke was something the rich did. Like studio 54. Before it turned into crack and the cities and jails got full of sad souls who got hooked on it. Hey, I'm tired. I worked all week and I'm depressed from working and being tired so I'll get a pick me up. It ain't speed. It's O.K. And I've got some money. Next thing you know you've spent $300 bucks and you're crawling on the carpet. Glad I wasn't rich enough to do the amount those guys did. Plus....I had to go to work! Oh, we can laugh now but, as Rick James said, "Cocaine....it's a hell of a drug.." Saw Eddie in 88 on the 1st day of the Monsters of Rock tour. He did his solo thing but I could see a druggie/drunk thing happening. Hey, he was still great but....it made him a little off. The Scorpions who preceded them were a well oiled R+R machine and if not for the drugs and drink...he would've been even better. Who knows? But musically the Scorps kicked Van Halen's ass that night. Despite Eddie's genius. R.I.P. Glad he had a clear head when he passed.

In the 80's I was a guitarist bouncing from band to band, constantly drinking, smoking weed, dropping acid and snorting coke. Gotta appreciate that woman's honesty. She doesn't shift blame or try to protect an image. She doesn't pretend to be a saint either. Shit happens. It happened to her and she dealt with it the best she could at the time. All anyone can do is try thier best. It doesn't matter what hand you are dealt. It's what you do with it. I'm so tired of people bitching about things or trying to "out victim" anyone within earshot.

@zebrastreet9993 2 года назад
Robert \ But she could have written her book and promoted it by being dishonest, shifting blame, and pretending to be a saint. All things to make herself look better. The point of the comment seems to be that she is not doing those things. Also she’s been famous for a very long time, since she was a kid, and she talks about other things, like the three hit TV shows she’s starred on, and her weight struggles. You might have a point if she were ONLY famous for being a rock stars ex and the mother of his child, but she’s famous more for her own career. She didn’t get her Emmys and her Golden Globes for being married to him.

Tom Mitchell Her third hit TV show ended like just 5 or 6 years ago. From what I read she has another sitcom launching this year. She has published cookbooks, and she also has had a successful run hosting shows on the Food Network and has a new one coming up. So she has plenty more going on than a sitcom 45 years ago. And who are you to be declaring who should or should not be writing books? Her books sell, justifying her book publishing deals.

We usually only did coke like on a Friday or Saturday night along with a case or 2 of beer but that's how our dirty drug addiction started. After awhile coke wasn't really good enough so we started smoking crack and doing heroin to come down from the crack crash. That party lasted for me like 23 years until 1/2 my friends were dropping like flies and some of them were younger than me but even that wasn't motivation enough for me to quit. I had to lose my 2 children and fiancee and sit in jail for a while before i was able to fully stop using drugs. Once i got outta jail i packed my bags the next day and got the hell outta New York and moved to the middle of nowhere North Carolina where nobody could find me cause i knew it would just be a matter of time if i stayed in NY that the same old ways would start happening again. I forced myself to stay in NC and here i am about 10 years clean now. I'm one of the few of my group of friends that survived. 🙏

Literally everyone I know does either coke or crack, they range from full blown habits to manageable habits (for now) to dabblers. Despite having done coke myself several times in the past I always found it very overrated and overpriced. So never got addicted and seem to feel no urge to join in even if people around me are caning it... I may even do the odd line if offered just to be sociable ...and then it's like "yeah it's okay" and I'll leave at that... Some of my friends genuinely think it's crazy that I'm not even remotely craving for more, because in their case they are the exact opposite and just want to shovel as much as possible...there's never enough for 'em...meanwhile I'm like "nah... I'm good" I'd never pay for it because I think it's a waste of money personally and it barely has any affect on me anyway so what's the point ? . I thought that maybe I have a non addictive personality ...but I still smoke cigarettes and tobacco which I am addicted to. Someone suggested that because I have Ritalin prescribed for adult ADHD my body may be so adjusted to stimulants ... that maybe they barely affect me... The Ritalin I have is very slow release...but it is pretty much constantly in my system ...so it is possible I have never known anyone personally to die from cocaine...but know of a few who OD'd on Heroin . (something I've never touched myself and never will) There have been plenty who've died from alcohol though. (something I used to do plenty of but now down to the odd beer or glass of red with a meal once in blue moon...who'd have thought?) I've heard of the "heroin to come down from the crack crash." thing . Last year one of my closest friends did this while staying in a hostel ...I was like Wtf? so let her stay at mine for a few weeks to get her away from that environment. Happy to say she is now relatively clean . The weird thing is that as a teenager ...I'd always be the one who was getting fucked up and doing stupid shit Never thought I'd end up being the adult in the room 40 years later...

I have a theory on 'why' David Lee Roth hated Valerie Bertinelli. I cannot prove this theory, as, only David Lee Roth would know whether this theory is/was true or not, but, I sincerely believe that in David's mind, and in David's soul, both he and Edward Van Halen enjoyed a bond for many years, a bond, or, as I would suggest, a Musical Marriage, and, even though women came and went, then next morning DLR and EVH still had their Musical Marriage in which they enjoyed song-writing, touring, recording and fame and money! Along comes Valerie Bertinelli, and she begins a new romance with Eddie, and, David Lee Roth feels threatened by her, because 'she' is the one thing that could potentially end Dave's relationship with Edward, and she alone is the one thing/person that could get in between both Dave and Ed, and so, he didn't know how to deal with her so he simply showed her hatred, rejection and ice-cold vibes. This is what I've come to become aware of, both back then, and especially now with hearing Valerie's own words in this here video. Hopefully one day, some day, Dave and Val can have a sit-down and discuss these things. Anyways, Cheers Everyone!

I'd say you're pretty much spot on and even Dave would admit it --- David Lee worked his ass off to make Van Halen a successful band and anyone who knows the details of how he had to audition multiple times to get into that band knows that he wasn't taking anything for granted --- so when Valerie comes along and marries Ed, then Dave instantly foresaw the "Yoko Destruction of Van Halen" unfolding before his eyes and that's why he turned the cold shoulder on her --- she was wrecking all of Dave's dreams!

I saw so many sunrises high on coke that I eventually came to despise them. Took me many years to get over that & enjoy the sunrise again. Edit: It's been so long since I've messed with cocaine that I'd forgotten some of the feelings I experienced when the coke was gone, and the night was over & it was time to go home. It all comes down to your appetite for dependency and your ability to think critically and make disciplined decisions. When I got out of Engineering College in the 80's and had my first job and was making very good money I started running with a pretty fast crowd and ended up living with a guy and girl who were big coke dealers. It only took me about two or three all night coke parties to realize this stuff felt so good and the down felt so bad that it was obvious that if I kept it up I would become addicted and no way could a rational thinking person believe it was good for you. So I told the dealers they had to move out after their 30 day notice. Neither one was happy and the girl several weeks later asked if she could move back in and basically then be my girlfriend and she was hot but I said no. I never did it again, but I did continue to drink pretty heavily socially but I managed to also dial that way back when I started to feel like I was needing it when I wasn't drinking. You just can't rationalize things that are obviously bad for you.

Trust me man, once you are completely past all of that in your life you’re going to love your life again, especially the way you feel each and every day, feels better than being high, it’s awesome. If you’re really serious about quitting start by changing your cell phone number and keep it between the people that really care for you as a person. Adam Warlock, I also agree with you Sir, and, I have always had a theory on 'why' David Lee Roth hated Valerie Bertinelli. Anyways, Cheers!

Coke was widly available and easy to come by so I learned to like it over m6 other drug of choice. Looking back, i can hardly believe i was so strung out on that shit. It was like living a horror movie. Literally. I started hearing the voices even before the sticker went into my vains. The shadow people came instantly. And the bush narcs were everywhere. Once me and my friend " Willie " were doing bumps in the bath room at the bowling ally. After it closed we went to the bottle club. He drove. We did so much coke i thought I would die, ( Or live forever) .....When he drove me back to my car at the bowling ally , i saw my girlfriend leaving a note on my car , she was worried to death. After she left , i got in my car , went home and felt like the biggest piece of shit ever !!!! It was Easter Sunday and I wasted the whole day .

That feeling at 6 or 7am when you've been up all night doing coke and now it's all finished and you can hear and see everyone outside starting their day feeling normal and refreshed from a nice nights sleep, and you're just faced with a long weird day of post coke anxiety and come down or alternatively making a call and organising some more coke to get you through the day, I do miss some aspects of my partying days but not that.

Been in many bands in 35 yrs., watched the miles go by, happy I was living the "life". Lotta good times! Lotta crazier times too. A lot of bed-hopping with different girls by everyone in the group, and even some times with other band wives...made 6 figures a year between band and married income for a few years (get about 3 good years outta 10 where you really do well) but when you do well, the stage trappings begin to exert themselves into the lives of the members, and things can get....rather insane..for a period of about five years, after every show we did, there'd be an after hours band party with members, friends, people at the show who came over. The only reason I remember most of what happened (we drank A LOT) was because of how much blow we always did, keeping us from getting to drunk. At a bunch of parties, I remember about 15 of us at mine & my now ex-wifes condo, partying, and almost EVERY SINGLE ONE OF US had at least an 8ball in their pocket, and the mirror never stopped being passed around. There was always someone in a locked bathroom or bedroom, and the sun was always up when we finally collapsed from exhaustion. Then we'd do it again the next night. It's an impossible way of life which led to my wife cheating on me, and me in an affair with one of my drummers wife. And then the group imploded under the insanity and stupidity. Doing alright now, but I tell you, cocaine will make you do some psychotic things. Beware Cousin Cocaine.

If I could speak to her on why he didn't like her, I'd say, " Don't take it personally.. David knew that having the opposite sex around would cause friction." I've seen it- I've lived it- I understand completely why he didn't want it- He may have been right.. It might have been her mere presence that caused the division after the 1984 album. (the timeline can't be ignored) On this topic I have just one last point to make.. Yoko Ono

My guess is Dave didn’t have an issue with her , but an issue with Ed’s lady raining on the party . Being in a band is about hanging with your bros as much as it is about playing music . Girlfriends/wives don’t fit into that so well. They were a huge party band and Dave loved the party . Eddie would definitely not party the same way if Val was around . Same story in every band. Not her fault and I doubt Dave has anything personal towards her

Rob Lowe's justifying his cocaine abuse by using the excuse, "people said it's good for you-makes you smarter!" Nobody can be that STUPID! "Hey dude, snort this drug... it's good for you. It'll increase your SAT score by 200 pts." "WOW... that's GREAT! What an SAT score?!" That aside, I think Dear Valerie is having a difficult time with the age factor. Cookbook, her ccoking show, this book, interviews, etc. SHE still wants the spotlight! Not like she needs the money. AND I'm sure people know that anytime a celebrity writes a book ( who's not an author), they have a "ghost writer" do the actual writing. These people who live in "the bubble" should step out occasionally... and see what's going on in the real world!! RIP EDDIE- you were the real deal; but should've kept "Michael Anthony" in the band!!!

You're trying to justify your ignorance with more ignorance. Doesn't work. I'd like to think 'Nobody could be that stupid' as to make up shit on a subject they're totally clueless about, but here you are doing it, so go solve YOUR problems instead of jabbering about others you don't understand.

Add to this Ed had a hard time dealing with the death of his father Jan. Also the death of Ed Leffler of cancer in 1993 really haunted Ed or tormented him to the core. The song "Crossing Over" (originally recorded in 1983 as David's Song) was later dedicated to Leffler....... but Ed refused to have it included in the album Balance for it was just too haunting. The death of Dimebag also put even more pressure on Ed. At the funeral someone said something about god in eulogy, Ed screamed out "There is no God"

Except it's not "living the DREAM" at all. It only looks like that from the outside. You have no privacy, you're never home, everyone wants a piece of you, people bug you constantly and if you tell them to leave you alone you're the Oz-whole. The drugs and the drama and the chaos are constant, you have no control of your life, you attract toxic people, and everyone around you is an enabler and does absolutely nothing to help the situation. There were times where I felt my life was literally in danger, just from the situations I'd find myself in...people flipping out in a coke-induced paranoid rage, ready to do anything, and there's a gun in the next room, for instance. Scary stuff. I walked away from a "rock star career," or at least that's what I was told I was doing when I walked away. Been teaching music to kids and only performing occasionally since. Walking away from "rock stardom" was one of the smartest things I ever did. The only way I ever even came close to "living the DREAM" is the fact that I've met a few of these famous people I admired as a kid and actually got to have a decent conversation with a handful of them.

Well touring is an hour or two of playing followed by getting on the road, sitting in a hotel room, interviews, and sound check. Not saying there’s worse jobs by a mile but I also get it’s not all sunshine and rainbows. Also, when I started reading a lot of rock and roll autobiographies, I realized that a.) they suffered a lot of abuse and trauma and drugs helped them cope with it. b.) they have an addictive personality which is why some people can try a Vice and walk away and others get sucked completely in. Also, I remember Eddie once recounted how his father advised him to have a drink when he was having stage fright. It doesn’t take an expert to realize that using substances to deal with anxiety, especially at a young age, is a quick ticket to addiction.

Hearing the garbage trucks beeping as they back up for the morning collection was another one. half an hour after the last line you get the first pangs of panic and a taste of the horror youre about to endure for the next 8 hours. the grueling pain of jonesing, the crushing reality that its all over and its time to pay your due. drinking as much alcohol as possible to help with the comedown and it just doesnt work and none of the stores are open to buy more. God got me sober many decades ago and I Thank God daily. Sobriety is like a free drug that you never run out of and never come down from. My worst days sober are miles ahead of my best days being high. Every morning when I open my eyes and remember Im sober I get a rush of warmth and a promise of peace.
