I dindn’t expect the Valeton could be so close to the real amp, because in the previous test the NUX, that has more advanced specifications but the same price, was less close to the real amp and with some artifacts that I don’t ear in the Valeton. Please compare the Valeton with the NUX and the real Marshall

With your last 2 videos, we can clearly hear the limitations of amp modeling. As the JCM800 in the previous one, the real Vox AC30 sounds way much better. And in this specific settings, I found the Fractal doesn't justify such a difference of price with the Valeton. Once again, great video and thank you very much for sharing all this!

Leo: I risk to keep making the same general comment on several of your videos and that's because I like them! :) But... Trying to make that experience to result in getting the same sound is very difficult by the following reasons at least: - The analogue path of the signal before the amplification (real amp) or ADC may not have the same response and gain; - The models may not be close enough (that's the part you want to show); - The final path (speakers and microphones included) may present significant differences between what was used during the modelling development and what you are using for the real amp sound. I believe it would be useful to try to get the same sound of the real amp with the modelers, even if needing to use other filtering blocks so shape the response before and after the amp. I am in the waiting list for an FM3 and I would like to see, not if it is a good modeler, but ultimately if I can get the same sound quality (or better) of the real amp.
@LeoGibsonGtr
@LeoGibsonGtr 3 года назад
Hi Antonio, thank you for liking the videos...It's really important for me! I see your point..there are tons of parameters we can change and tweak. I would just like to add that in my opinion getting the exact same sound of the real amp is important but it's not the most important think. For me one of the most important think is the level of realism of the modelers as regards the way they manage the envelope of the note and the dynamic range. This is, in my opinion, the focus of these type of videos. Thank you once more for sharing your opinion!

Great, comprehensive video as always. I think modeling has gotten to a point where it gets "close enough" that you don't have to spend a fortune to get usable tones. And my thought is that if it inspires you to create music, even though the tone may not be spot-on with the real amp, it doesn't really matter to your listener. God bless and keep up the good work!

Hello all, it's amazing how well the Valeton GP100 has done compared to the Fractal FM3, which costs many times more! In my opinion, good tube amps are hard to beat to this day - but the modelers are right on their heels. I think in a few years you will hardly be able to hear the differences. With kind regards Mic from old Germany

@TheRedSpecialPlayer
@TheRedSpecialPlayer Год назад

The Vox definitely sounds better than the other 2, but not by much. If you only want to play a vox, then get the real amp. This may be the hardest amp to copy anyway except for maybe dumble. I love Vox, but also love Fender Princeton and Bassman, Mesa Boogie, Marshall plexi, Engl, Egnater, Hiwatt, Dumble, Dr Z, Orange, 5150, etc so I would go with the FM3 all day and never look back. By the way, I did not think your videos could get any better, but they are. Thanks for all the work you put into this!

Interesting comparison and insightful review comments. The FM3 really shines in it's ability to easily and accurately model an amp. The Valeton was ok, but understandably, fell short of what the FM3 can do. Modern Multi-effects Processors are amazing. I doubt that there is a vintage amp that could "model" half of what even an inexpensive one can do. In my opinion, Modern Multi-effects Processors are the best way to get great sounding, interesting, unique, versatile tones at an affordable price on a lightweight unit and small footprint. At this point, is kind of like comparing a race horse and a race car. Each has its own beauty, appeal, and domain. YMMV - Thanks!

You should use the same speaker impedance curve on Fm3 edit speaker tab, as your suhr reactive loadbox it is like marshall green back 4x12, so try “4x12 brit greenback” or “4x12 basketweave” or “Loadbox LB-2 UK”,It should get closer to you Ac30

Good comparison. The amp handled the high frequencies much nicer than both the modellers. I thought the Fractal sounded pretty horrible in the high frequencies and the Valeton, less so, but still harsh. The time where a modeller would be handy for me is when I'm playing a very simple setup in a small space and only DI'd, playing a duo or trio setup. Therefore, the Valeton would be good enough for me.

Since the Suhr Reactive Load is based on the impedance curve of a greenback 4x12 cab you should go to the speaker tab in the amp block of the FM3 and load a greenback 4x12 impedance curve. That will help the model get closer to matching the sound of the real amp. I really like these in-depth comparison videos. Keep up the good work!

The difference between the amp and the modelers were quite big, the real amp sounded like it had a wider frequency spectrum and more open, the modelers more narrow an boxy. The real amp sounded much better especially when it was breaking up where the modelers could sound quite nasty even. This is not a video that would make me want to buy either Fractal or Valeton but rather a real Vox amp although i think they are quite unpractical and limited. Interesting comparison and great video as always Leo !

Valeton sounds very impressive for the price! Real vox is the best! Fm3 is the winner! It has little more distorted sound, but all harmonics are there. Valeton loose but sounds surprisingly close to real vox. Maybe external EQ can match it even closer. Is Valeton has the same amp modeling as ampero? Or it sounds even closer to real vox?

Great comparison! I agree with you about the note separation, in particular I hear some high-pitched artifacts in both the modelers. I don't know if anything else could be done to improve the sound. On the FM3 maybe tweaking the impedance curve or the speaker compression could help. But again, it's very tricky to achieve the same exact result in particular since you're using a load box. Very similar and usable, though! Cheers

I guess they are usefull in alive situation too, The crowd wont hear the difference and you save your back but for making a record there is nothing like the real deal.
