Iron nails should be the first thing you craft with iron, and use them to make the big boat. The big boat has a much larger storage, for transporting all that ore.
Or you could just fill your inventory, leave and go to a new world store the stuff and then hop back into your main world, teleport back and then go back to the new world and grab your stuff back. Cheers
With how this game is, I don’t ever try to rush to new ages. Progress at your own pace because I personally like to make my base upgraded each age after getting necessary gear like the axe at bronze first, it’s a bit slower sure, but I get to enjoy each age for what it is and get a ever growing base as far as comfort and just looking nice. After all half the fun of the game is building a sick home and getting amenities to make the home better and have more utilities. Skipping straight to certain ages might be faster and more efficient but a lot of fun things to do get neglected or become useless doing this
Agreed. Take your time and enjoy the game, it's not a race. It's a beautiful game honestly, half the fun for me is exploring and gathering new stuff, not speedrunning it

@@simpleminded5215 I get speedrunning for some games, it can give replay value and be another "game" in and of itself to try and beat your own time, but for a survival/exploration game I don't understand it
I agree as well, this game has forced me to slow down and take my time preparing... and frankly exploring. Every time I get impatient, or arrogant, this game kicks my butt, lol. I now have a main base with a huge deep trench dug out around it to protect against raids and wandering monsters and I am taking my time. 😄
At this point, skipping bronze armor and keeping fully upgraded trollhide armor seems to be the best strategy for a lot of people. You keep your speed on foot, and you save all that tin and copper for other more useful things. Edit: I'm sure this will change as they balance the game but right now bronze armor isn't worth the effort or expense.
Bronze is meh, the armor is better for defense but it’s more of something you do if you have spare bronze and can’t make stronger armor or want some throw away armor. Troll hides more efficient and all around better except for direct combat in dungeons
In my little base next to the swamp, I put a smelter and upgraded forge, so I can smelt iron on site and make iron stuff there, instead of having to boat it to my other base all the time.
Thanks again for your high quality videos! I'm still farming in bronze age to get my equipment up to date to face the elder but my next goal is to build a bigger home before I advance to the iron age. Thanks to your build guides I have a lot of ideas for that project!
One thing with the Crypts you didn't specifically call mention was it's better to clear out only one side at a time instead of all of it at once. That way, you can make a gap where you can see what's on the other side and can grab your bow and shoot down any enemies before going in. Should be narrow enough that nothing can slip in.
As a solo player I use the command explore map because right now with my work schedule I don't have a ton of time and it's one of the few quality of life in the game that I allow myself to have otherwise I progress normally, I found a drauger village in a decent size Meadows area that borders the swamp and the plains and the village sits far enough back from both that I'm really not going to be bothered by anything from those two other biomes but it's close enough that I can venture into the swamp and later into the plains and I'm taking over that village 😏
before you even make your iron equipment, you may want to consider making 100 iron nails (10 iron bars) so that you can make the longship, which has 6 times as much storage for metals as the other ship. that way, you can get the rest of your iron in one go if you wish.
yeah; if you carry 6 copper bars over to the swamp you can craft everything on site with a forge. Most times there is a Black Forest nearby if you didn't bring copper; but if unlucky it could be surrounded by tons of Plains instead
Me too. My first boating excursion to land near second boss was at night trying to find meadows....all of a sudden I saw scary laughing creatures and a mosquito. I finally got my boat, armor, weapons and pickaxe back. I can't wait to go there with better weapons!
Thats why i switched the settings to x3 resources, this game is fun but its stupid how they make you grind for the damn ores. Having the settings on x3 makes it so you dont have to grind for so long. I also changed the portal settings too so you can teleport while you have ores.
My one complaint about this game is how bloody GRINDY it is. Depending on your map, it can literally take real-life days to get through the different ages. That's pretty excessive. There needs to be some sort of difficulty slider where the game drops more ores when you mine the copper veins and etc. I mean, keep the monsters as tough as they are, but more ores! Please!!! Just so you can see more of the game sooner.
I found the lack of teleporting ores and ingot bars not very good so I modded portals to allow that. It made grinding more reasonable. I also just slapped on willybach HD textures and oh man does it make the game look way better while not killing performance since 4gb of vram is enough for medium quality textures. Also another way to mine copper is to bait the trolls to hit the copper vains for you. Might not be quicker but its hella more fun. Plus the troll braks a bunch of trees so you get wood. And an added bonus is you don't have to waste your pickaxe durability. Lastly, you can keep damaging the troll slowly overtime and when the ore vain is nearly done, just kill off the troll and get his hide.
So no follow up video: Bonemass _only fists!_ Hehe. I tried the Christmas Deer _just kicks_ and it was impossible. The delay of the kick was too great! And then I thought, "why kill Christmas anyways..." But I shot him full of arrows, idk y. He wouldn't let go, jack.
I use a trainer for unlimited weight. The iron is way too heavy and even with the expanded weight capacity it's nowhere near enough. Way less aggravation.
Good video. Great tips. Here are some additional suggestions to consider: Build your original base in or near the Black Forest. You not only get a great view, you won't need to transport copper/tin in a boat or cart because it will be so close to your base. Before you build anything, dig a moat around your base. This, or a raised earth wall, will provide protection from all early raids. No need for a fence or stakewall that will get destroyed by trolls. Bronze armor is not worth crafting. You're better off with troll armor for the movement speed. Also, this will save you from doing a lot of mining, which will get you to the iron age quicker. You don't have to load iron onto a boat to bring it back to your base for processing. Bring 20 copper and two tin with you on the boat when you're first traveling to the swamp. This will allow you to craft a level 3 forge in your swamp base. Build a smelter there, and then process iron as you're mining, enabling you to gear up as you go through the crypts. Use this same technique when mining silver in the mountains. Like with bronze, you can save yourself a lot of time by not crafting iron armor. Root armor is better because of the pierce and poison resistances, the set bonus (+15 bows), and the reduced movement penalty.
Great guide. I’m right there just heading to the swamp area on my map. Fortunately already established a forward base on the same island at the coast in Black Forest area not excessively far away. But will probably make another forward swamp base for operational convenience and smelting. The straight fwd guides are appreciated.
Bone mass isn't too hard with troll hide, so just get an iron pickaxe and you get to actually have fun crypt mining instead of gagging by the mere thought of one after you spent the last few weeks in them.
instead of taking all of the ore back home, just take a forge and portal with you to the swamp. when you get to the swamp, set down the portal and bring your smelter and kiln through the portal into the swamp.
Great video, OLM! Not gonna lie, after defeating the Elder, I'm not looking forward to moving on to the swamp. Looks hard & depressing. Now have to spend loads of preparation time stocking up on anti-poison potions and whatever else that will help me in this next part of the adventure! ;)
