Never forget what you named you portals again! Or was that just me? Regardless, I made a whole video about how I use my portals, and how I name them and where I put 'em. I hope it's interesting to some, cause I go on and on about it...
From your first video I was hooked. This is easily the best and funniest Valheim building channel there is, narrating is on point. Off to destroy my round portal hub, how generic right?, to replace it with this space saver!
At this point I think you could make a video about literally anything in Valheim and I would watch it. Very nice idea, I agree it's so simple but we all fall into the circular hub trap and it's nice to be reminded that a simpler and more effective version exists. For instance, anyone can build a dock, but there's always issues with rocks in the water or general shallowness/choppy waters, plus for me at least it's always an afterthought since I'm way too excited to just get out on the water once I get a boat rolling. Every time I return I try to make some small improvement, whether it's to ease the transition from boat to dock or extend the dock a bit to allow the bigger boats to easily park and generally maneuver around it. Plus it would be great to have the dock do double duty as a dedicated fishing site if done correctly. If you have any dock wisdom this could be a good content idea.
Really love your content. Your dry humor combined with efficiency of building, mathematical explanation and actual user experience of different parts of Valheim, make this a top-tier channel. You think about all the little things a lot of other channels don't cover. I love your house build as well. Keep posting your ideas and concepts, they are very informative and entertaining!
Hey Mate, very well-deserved explosion of your channel and videos. Some of the best practical content on Valheim out there. You also have great humor, you can lean into it for sure! I am going through a tough personal time at the moment and playing Valheim in this "optimization of design" way is actually very soothing ;P. And your content is perfect for this ^^. The beauty of the impact of putting things online... You never know who you will help out. Cheers !
The numeric system for portals works like a champ. I usually spread them in 20s so I know which area they are - plus, I hardly will ever had more than 20 portals in Meadows zones, for instance. Plus, I have built my portals area as a star: each wing goes to one zone, so I know all portals in a wing would only take me to that zone. And I label my “travel” portal as 999, in the center of the portal wings.
I really enjoy your videos. They are very entertaining and the narration is on point. The builds are beautiful. I would be claustrophobic in that portal hub, but with a few adjustments to make the hallways wider, it just might work! Thank you for sharing your ideas!
on the subject of early game and limited resources for portals, a system me and my friends resorted to was always having a "home" portal that was never left connected so you can always connect to it if you needed to return home. we would then use our "away" portal to connect out into our network. was a bit messy but it worked well enough as we'd just daisy chain through each others portals if we needed to go somewhere they were already linked to. the larger the server and more asynchronously you play, the less effective this method is, but we were still using it at the end game for our last playthrough.
Thanks for the video. I have tried some of the round ones and while they look pretty they haven't been as easy to work with. I took your concept and built a portal hub in a safe location, (put a moat around it and a pack of wolves, just in case). It is still in the building stage (50 portals at the moment) and room for nearly as much again. It is working a lot better and the extra signage suggestion is a life saver. Thanks.
I rang the notification bell last time but if I'm doing my job right these will just get to the top of my homepage regardless. I would absolutely love to see a dwarf farm video. And you briefly touched on it with the portal placement, but if you have any other tips for building things that don't snap I'm dying to hear them.
Really love your designs, even the name of the channel makes me laugh for some random reason idk, I've almost finished the Dream House build you have come up with in the plains to help me progress further, with that being said.. this portal palace could work INSIDE the Dream House in the basement, again you'd be limited to certain amount of portals, certainly would have enough :) edit: on second thoughts no.. the teleports kinda poke through the floor, back to the drawing board lol
You are inspiring to watch. I'm starting out on YT as well, and I hope to achieve the same levels in creativity, commentary, and editing that you are already at. I look forward to everything that you do, please, I'm asking this selfishly, continue to create :)
I would probably pay you for a world download with concepts of build and stuff from you. Everything ive seen so far is beyond brilliant, and at the same time stylistically amazing. Please make more videos i will not commit arson if you do i promise.
I need a video of everything you do not because i wanna copy it even tho i might but because of the presentation as it not just makes me smile but really really happy and this is exactly what i need at the moment because of you know surroundings people bla bla making life here in the Philippines a nightmare as a chill Swiss citizen.....sad but reality thank you so much for the content looking forward for more exciting videos that being said let me watch the 2.15min part again and again :P Kindly Regards
I usually don't subscribe to gaming channels but bro, this is so damn well done. From the buildings itself to the videoediting. Hopefully you will become as big as you deserve! Absolutely amazing content
You're the best brother! Thank you for all your videos. My portals where overly complicated. Sounded good on paper. Pretty much every location I wanted a portal got two portals. One to my portal library and the other portal lead to the next location. This way I could go to my portal library from any location but I could also go to the next location. It was nice for traveling to my farms in the plains and mistlands but it was a pain to setup.
This system is neat. I like to play around with the compas and chain up portals for farms. So N0, NE0, E0 ... is at the spawn. The next ring of hubs will have 0 and 1, the next one 1 and 2 etc. I build them as i need and progress. Personally i also like to build the portals outside the base, so you have to walk a bit like in a RPG.
I build diagonal stacks of portals, it is the most efficient way. Currently I have portal hub under The Elder's spawn (completely closed by terrain) with 20 portals and have space for at least 10 more. Could be even tighter, but I like convenient stairs on all corners and some decorations.
I also have one basic portal called "Taxi" or unnamed which I use to quickly dump portable cargo and refresh my rested bonus. And also dedicated "Ship" portal which is planted wherever I left my ship before going deep into continent. This way if I even fk up my Taxi, I won't have to build new ship and sail again all the way. And third basic portal on my base leads to underground portal hub with all other portals. Yeah, it's one extra jump to get where I want, but I like small island bases, so I usually have no space for all needed portals.
I don't think I'll ever have the patience to build a full paired portal network, but this is probably going to be my reference if I do. I might try numbering them as well if I can get past the habit of using biome names. For example, I might have labeled the Haldor portal near the swamp "HaldorSwamp" or I might label a portal near a plains biome and mistwood biome "MistPlains" if I'm farming items from bith of those biomes. It isn't the most elegant system, but it's worked okay for solo play so far. I've been getting by okay by making a small hub in my first forest biome fort with a dedicated portal for each boss altar. I mark those portals with a trophy of the corresponding boss (might as well, flex a little) and then have some kind of extra roaming portal until I find a place to make a bigger base. That bigger base has two portals, one to link to the hub or a resource farm and one for roaming/emergencies.
This system of portals is best I have seen so far. Maybe you could also make a video about how you build stone walls around your base if you have some special and also functional designs so it doesn't look plain and you can easily walk on top of the walls etc. Thanks for the content.
2 portals. One that you change based on location you are visiting and one left blank so you can return from any portal. 1. You are exploring and wish to return to base theough a different portal than you left from, but it's not connected because your main portal is connected to the other location. Rename it to blank. 2. You go through and come out at your base through the 2nd blank portal. 3. You rename the main portal to the name of the location you returned from. (It will not activate yet because the other side is currently blank.) 4. You walk back through the blank portal from you base back to the location you returned from. You rename it back to it's proper name. It now connects with your main portal. Walk back through back to base and you are good. Sure it's more steps but it can be used to return from any portal in the game. I actually have 3 emergency portals in addition to my changing one . One is blank, one is named 911 and the third is named 411. Easy to name in a pinch and if you forget to go through the above procedure you are still able to return
I find it more useful to have two portals. One that leads to a safe place near elder stones and second that I use as my "go-to" portal. Next to it I keep a chalk board with the list of all active portals I have around the world. So I just type the name and I am there. Currently having 12 active portals and having two instead of 12 makes all the difference.
Or you could build just two portals! Make a hut 2 wide and 5-6 long. One portal is your emergency portal which only gets used in emergencies! The other is your main portal (use numbers instead of names, so you don't having to worry about getting the spelling right) then on the wall without the door, between the two portals make a wall of numbered signs telling you where everything is. SO much more space saving! (forget which youtuber i saw this from, if you guys know lets give him some credit)
I like building an octagon with spokes. One door, a portal on each interior wall for 7, then three portals on each section defined by the spoke for 21 more portals. It's super easy, its 28 portals and you can add a second level if you need more. I always have portals named: 1. altar 2. trader 3. hildir 4. elder 5. bonemass 6. moder 7. yag 8. queen 9. plains farm 10. "" -- leave it empty for emergency evacs then you have 18 more portals named 1 - 18
we have 3 players on our world, we have 3 portals in our base, if you wanna go somewhere, rename the portal, the portal name is written on the map, we have 1 portal per player in case we want to go to different places. It's easy, it takes 2 seconds to name, and you don't have to walk for 15 seconds to get to the next portal.
the names are easy, like power, farm, mist, swamp, queen, bonemass, plains, and when we are going to a new area, we don't name it until it is set up, so we can place the portal quickly in case of an emergency
I name an Island on the map a random name of letter likes "Fyur" and then each portal on that island numbered after "Fyur 1" or "Fyur 2" and so on. I'll then setup a Portal at home base "Fyur" to a Portal hub on that island, with portals to each one in Fyur only.
And here i am, tired of all this portal mess and downloaded xPortal mod to have one portal to rule them all, just a couple of hours before youtube suggests this channel to me, it's quite ironic. And... although this is very interesting and smart approach (like all the other things in your videos let's face the facts), i'm never gettin back to that absurdity of a portal farm in this game :)
I've been having trouble recently on the Ashlands test build where sometimes portals don't connect even with the same name. Or sometimes it will connect, you walk through and when you walk through it's not connected anymore, even though the name was never changed. Sometimes destroying and rebuilding works but it feels pretty random.
I'm trying to build your structures, but I'm struggling to lug all of the materials around that are necessary to build them. What kind of construction mods do you use in Valheim to make your buildings? 4:38 Also, that slam on politicians earned you a subscriber. XD
Hi man can you pls tell me what kind of mode you use in the video for building I see you don’t have any of those material but you can still build pls pls tell me. And I love your videos ❤️❤️🫰
@@peacefulminimalist2028 takes like max 5 seconds to klick portal and change name to the destination portal. Way less to run a long distance and then try to find the correct portal. Saves alot of space too 😅
I love playing Valheim with mods. Much better and chill. IIf any1 wants to play with me, i have a working server with Thunderstore Mods! @Crate Of Bananas, wanna play with me?
