Indeed, it is precisely with the awakening of the season that all the beauty of the Roof of the Apennines can be admired - after all, we are not very far from the Gran Sasso and Campo Imperatore. Here the plateaus, surrounded by "soft" reliefs, seem to want to embrace the roads and the riders who travel along them.
The gallows takes its name from the ancient custom of calling the roads that "pierced" the mountains in this way. Also considering the Roman origin of the route, it is therefore not surprising for its name and the strategic role it has served for centuries.
