When your child is struggling with something that’s gone wrong, your instinctive response is probably to help them fix it. Most well-intentioned parents jump right to trying to solve their children’s problems, but in doing so miss the most important step. Children often need their parents to validate their feelings before they’re ready to do something about those feelings.
Check out this video for how to do it.

I am 60 years old and my mother is still trying to solve all my problems. No wonder my self efficacy and resilience are almost nonexistent. I struggle not to do the same with my adult children. Thankfully I am learning, and a big part of that was them saying, "I just need you to listen, not to fix it. My mother, on the other hand, being "the fixer" is a part of her identity
