Until this days, I can't find any game with such well executed and dynamic special attacks. This thing was the cherry of the cake of the Valkyrie Profile games.
@@diegoaguirre5305 I've been playing both Tales and Valkyrie Profile since the 90s, I'm talking SNES and PS1-era all the way through 2010s. Tales have nothing on VP man. As an adult in my 30s now, Tales seem like they're written for cringy tweens. VP is a bit more refined and mature, aging much better with the player

Can you imagine a HD remake of this? Especially with that 60FPS Blinding Blaze? Plus in all these years I don't think I've ever seen Phantom Destruction.
Yeah you need to beat the boss at the bottom of the Seraphic gate, and get their wand to use Phantom Destruction. Only problem is Mages in VP2 are really bad late game due to how elemental damage is calculated and they get out classed by Archers and almost any other class that deals magical damage. They are however the strongest class early game and will carry you all the way till the end of chapter 4 when they start becoming more like supports than damage dealers.
Valkyrie Profile soul crushes have a certain force and dynamicity to them I cannot find in any other RPG special attack. Each one has a profound sense of movement and every hit feels powerful and satisfying.
So disappointing that I never find anybody (even among those who play JRPGs) that played this or even know what it is. Still have my copy and love it. Arngrim's SC is my favourite by far.
When I fist saw Narberal Gamma casting Chain Dragon Lightning I immediately had a nostalgia for Valkyrie Profile. "No mercy for the damned! Thou hast no escape from the grasp of catastrophe! Meteor Swarm!"
The only game I've played besides Dragon's Dogma that actually made magic seem powerful. I never get tired of those incantations. Lezard is the reason nearly all of my created RPG characters are mages.
6:21 Until this day may favorite Meteor Storm attack in any RPG game. Until this day one of my favorite games ever. Just watching the special attacks wants me to play it again... well i will do that anyway
So. Good. I. Can't. Even. Just the sheer power and attention to detail to make the most dynamic finishers is chef's kiss. How I wish they would come back to this format in future games as well :)
I cannot believe that they made a Valkyrie Profile game that was a bad joke over just make this one in modern graphics. The feeling of just doing those Soul Crush was everything in that game battle. And it is kinda funny how later on I learn who was Lezard Voice Actor... while watching Critical Role and now it is weird not seeing hear him and think: That's Vax/Caleb/Orym.
This game went up against FFXII though in terms of release times closest to one another. Both had special attacks and VP Silmeria takes the cake easy. VP Silmeria was unfortunately the last JRPG that had memorable Special Attack cinematics on this level. Actually I think it probably ranks as #1 And yeah imo FF gameplay in general is glorified more than it should.

You missed three Soul Crushes from the gods/divine beings. "Desperate Horror" from the dude with a bow, "Grim Malice" from the guy with cards, and "Spiritual Lancer" from Odin if that is his name. Other than that, it's really nice to see these Soul Crushes again in HD
Congratulations, you're going to lose it. There is now Valkyrie Elysium, which...does not look very much like a Valkyrie Profile game. It kind of looks like Valkyrie May Cry with really weird teeth and no recurring characters that we're used to. Maybe a reboot or something. 超悲しい。

Right now I can only play native (it has issues otherwise) but I'm still happy this runs on my emulator. I use to play this nonstop on my old ps2 before it died and to this day VP2S battlesystem and finishers are amazing.

I know this is late but I will answer anyway there is 3 version of nibelung valesti in VP 1 1. Lenneth (sword) 2. Lenneth (bow) 3. Hrist. Meanwhile in VP2 trio Valkyrie are playable+ Alicia (our main character) has her own nibelung valesti, I don't want to spoiler you why she has it but she alone has 3 version of nibelung valesti and finally true Valkyrie which is fused version of trio Valkyrie. That is why a lot of nibelung valesti in this hame
I don't like what I see. Not developed by Tri-Ace(even if taking into account employee changes). Different Valkyries, not one of the original 3, and only the 3 exists from the og tri-ace lore. Unique 4 character control battle system and unlimited special attack chances was taken out, and VP already pretty much feels like an action game. And I question the thoughts that went into the creation of that Hrist-wannabe character at the end of the trailer, feels very full of western sensibilities. SE brand gave us FFVII Remake/multiple FF remasters but we can't have a Valkyrie Profile game with one of the og Valkyries as main characters. That's probably why the "Profile" was dropped out of the name and Tri-Ace not involved(at the least in some manner) somehow.
Gonna be honest seeing this i was reminded of Tales of Mystic Artes and i gotta say their recent MA have been a bit weak wish their mages Ma would be more grandiose like this
I have no clue why I 100% Elysium. Even if I was bored, had nothing else to play and was close to the platinum. It just was not worth it. The real shame, is that. The game had a lot of potential. All of the potential got stomped on.
@FreyaJoey Right now. I am replaying VP 2 and it is miles better. The thing I noticed with Elysium, is that. It looked like they tried to bring a bit of the VP 2 system into it, but even that was a fail. VP 2 did something very risky that in the end just worked well. Dais-> Party buffs/ Enemy buffs/Debuffs. These were important, especially for Seraphic Gate. Battles were like a mini dungeon much of the time. This made you consider the terrain. How far you are from the enemy, and how careful you’d need to be. Every step you make, you can manipulate what an enemy does over time. Keeping cautious to the red zone. It was a clever way to introduce semi-real time combat. Magic-> Magic was important due to resistances, and as an initiative to break through an enemy for a combo setup. Split Party-> You could split off your party for more complex tactics. Part breaks-> These were done much better in VP 2. It is not only for materials, but to weaken the enemies. Elysium had part breaks, but it was kinda there. At best it weakened enemies, but even then it wasn’t anything much. Greater Magic-> VP 2 had quite a bit of wonderfully crafted ones. Soul Crush-> This can be a hindrance at times. Knowing when to link up your combos was an important thing to consider, or get the hell beaten outta ya. On top of this, they captured the cinematic’s amazingly. It was fast, but slow enough to be admired. Plus a skip button in case you need to go faster. Dungeons-> While not as insane as VP 1. VP 2 still had puzzles that spans maps. Complex platforming to reach higher elevations, really fine detailed work for the environments. They just wonderfully stick out without feeling out of place. Elysium was missing all of this. They even screwed up Nibelung Valesti. Nibelung Valesti-> You’re supposed to start with the first version. And each upgrade represents the growth of the Valkyrie as well. It had a progression to it, it starts with a series of combos. Then progressed to the spears for version 2, and version 3 further adds on from there. They really knew how to build up excitement for it. Elysium used version 2 as version 1. Their version 2 and 3 as well, it was disconnected to say. It didn’t link up, it was just some different thing that didn’t even make sense on how it got to their points. Enemies starting in the air? No, the Valkyrie launches them into the air. Third version? Enemy suddenly in the air and the Valkyrie striking from the air? Once again, same issue. There is no build up. And felt like they hit fast forward on an emulator. Plus Nibelung Valesti had meaning behind them/ VP 1-> version I is more like loyalty to Odin. Version 2 is around the time of doubt. Version 3 was when Lenneth became Creator. VP 2-> version 1 is like naivety. Version 2 is after Silmeria is gone. It is like independence/defiance. Version 3 pretty much represents souls are meant to be free, they cannot be bound. It is just that the story and when the upgrade happens was excellently done. Elysium? None of that. Version I was gotten right before the last chapter. You can say doubt, but the way it was going. It could be anything, at best no thought was put into it. Version 2, it is optional completely defeating the point of the Valkyrie’s progression. Version 3 is Seraphic Gate, and just pointless. Sorry for the rant. Elysium really drove me up the wall. 😂

It's incredible to see how 2D Valkyrie Profile's special attacks were far more epic and stood the test of time, unlike Silmeria. Even it's laughably bad voice acting somehow it's more authentic than any voice acting that came after! Goes to show, if you devote yourself to make a good game, then you're good to go. A message that got kind of lost after 2010.
