On the weekend of July 20th 2019, Train Chamber, Trainfan1015, and CPR Works made the trek out to the Valley Railroad in Essex Connecticut. With an oncoming heatwave, the high humidity and high temperatures lead to exhausting conditions, and even a real feel of 102 degrees Fahrenheit. Though the heat seemed unbearable at times, we toughed it out to film the Valley Railroads Chinese SY, #3025. Equipped with a melodic Nathan 6 Chime, #3025 makes her daily run from Essex, to Hadlyme, pulling the Essex Steam Train's "Train & Riverboat" Excursion.
The Valley Railroad's beginnings start way back in 1868, as the Connecticut Valley Railroad. With the line being last used n 1968, the Valley Railroad leases the line from the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection, and is slowly restoring the rest of the line to Middletown. They own three steam locomotives, #40, #97, and #3025. Seen in this video, #3025 is a Chinese SY Class 2-8-2 Mikado, Built in 1989 by the Tangshan Locomotive Works. Originally working for the Knox & Kane Railroad, members of the Valley Railroad purchased the locomotive for cheap, and completely rebuilt the locomotive, being modeled after a New Haven J-1. She returned to service in 2011 and has been running since.
