@@charlieboddington I know Airfix do a Hurricane bit they don't do a Mk11c or. d and I don't think they do a b either, but they deem to do every mark of Spitfire!!!!
Hi Matt, great review. Re the clear spure, your right about the other canopies being for a Mk V having just built a couple in this scale. Also did you spot that the squadron serial marking is very similar to the recent Blackpool Illuminations 1/72 limited edition.
Great video Mat.impressive as always but the kit is not for me for 2 reasons (and im sure its a fine kit for those who want it) but due to space restictions i don't build bigger than 1/72 and if i can be honest i have had more than my fill of Sptifires by now, especially from Airfix.
Pretty fair, yes. Not sure what you meant regarding the two-bladed prop? They have clearly provided the early (wooden I believe) two blade prop with the kit reviewed so you can build the earliest service incarnation of the Spitfire, why do you think you need to source one from elsewhere? Overall, I rate this kit very highly for level of optional parts, tooling finesse and overall accuracy, very good value for money. Yes, there are parts for the later MK Vb included on the sprues, saves a lot of bother in production I imagine (I have both marks of this kit and they build up very nicely). 1:48 is a great scale for those with failing eye-sight and not a lot of display room! Good compromise.
I'm not talking about sourcing a new prop, i'm referring to sourcing different decals as the ones included are for aircraft that were only fitted with 3-blades. If you wanted to do an aircraft fitted with the 2-blade prop included in the kit decals for an appropriate aircraft would need to be sourced
I would do the early version since you don't see that option in alot of other kits and manufacturers that I have seen in reviews or shopping for that early/late model myself.
Hi Matt. Random thought for a diorama of this model. In flight /but/ damaged and a lucky cannon shot has blown the cover off a gun bay in a wing, so you get to show the innards of the gun bay /and/ model the pilot too :) Plan B maybe rearming between sorties so the pilot would be sat in the aircraft on the ground with the gun exposed.
I tend to be picky when it comes to Spitfire's, because every manufacturer has Spitfire's, especially Mk 1a's and Mk V's, coming out of their ears, but this does look like a really nice kit. A number of years ago I did the 1/48 Revell Mk XVI that could be done with engine covers, gun ports and cockpit door all open and I think this could look nice parked next to that. Plus it's nice to see how my skills have progressed over the years.
Nice kit, I've got the Airfix Club kit "Specialist Spitfires" (A82015) on the bench which was issued a few years ago, it makes up into a Mk Vb and the sprues are similar, though sadly no gun option. The new 1/48 Tamiya Mk1 was a birthday present and I might build it straight afterwards to see the difference in manufacture/construction. Thank for the review and Happy New Year!
nice review, i would make the earlier version as it isnt the generic Battle of Britain version so stands out alittle more, but would also have the canopy, cockpit door and weapons bays open
I'm slightly confused about the step where you need to trim the fuselage halves a bit in order to fit the closed canopy. Does the kit or the instruction indicate well where that cut is to be made? It isn't completely clear from the video, not seeing the print or the parts in person makes this step a little baffling for me.
Early-mid war spitfires, 109e's, and P51d's are boring as all else and flooded with choice, but Im pretty sure they keep the lights on and prop up anything interesting that anybody comes out with. Kind of like how the handful of smash authors at any publisher are subsidizing the rest of the catalog
@@pandaphil do they revoke citizenship or is it a fine? Is a completed Spit the loicense required to enter a local hobby shop? The 51D is like that here. Theres one guy at my club who has built more than a hundred p51s, almost exclusively D's, almost exclusively 1/48
Could easily have the pilot in, canopy open and guns exposed as I'd it were landed for rearming mid raid. Wonder if anyone makes 1/48 aircrew sets with the right figures for that. Also....nice video and thorough as always on the unboxing
Does seem like a decent kit but the price puts it right in line with the eduard 1/48 profipack spitfire mk1a which doesnt come with pilot or gun bays but does include a mask set, photoetch, a whole bunch of decal schemes and is just generally a step above in mould quality and general detail as well as just a bit more premium
