The girl's father thought she was kidnapped and sent D to go after her and he runs into other bounty hunters looking for her. The girl and the vampire both eloped and wanted to go to the moon where some of his kind resided. Really the movie can be summed up with as a miscommunication.
the book, i found, was actually a little confusing. I do love the movie better. Wat really sucks is that my fav book is the first one, but I can't find to movie anywhere!! I found a spanish version on youtube, but hello *waves hand in front of mouth* English! no offense to spanish ppl
