I don’t know how to describe how it feels to watch this. It’s like if someone who didn’t really know what the Bible was played one of those Christian RPGs and was like “I like the buff dude with the t-shaped club” and “Oh cool, the Romans! They must be the good guys!” Love you Tom- thanks as always for the gameplay, no matter how bewildering the crossover may be!
I feel like I fell into a Fortnite Discord lobby or something and just have absolutely no f-ing idea what anyone is talking about with a twist that all their Fortnite characters are Kardashians.
I love how the "doesnt know what thing is" even keeps up for the tom related things. That "Slithers" during the magic the gathering part was just some snake person. Tom was talking about SliVers
Tom playing *HoloCure* is an intersection of my interests I never expected. Also, it is _fantastic_ to see Tom guess at what things are with zero knowledge of any of the HoloLive talent references being made. Genuinely the variety of things in this game make it _SUCH_ a fun time with a bunch of options, I hope we get a lot more episodes of Tom trying it out. 4:14 - Same Tom. Same.
@@IcespherePlaysGames Fauna talking about SoI really surprised me. I think she and maybe someone else made a Diggy Diggy Hole reference while playing Minecraft at one point as well.
@@IcespherePlaysGames yeah it was a week ago, I forget someone in Myth or Council made some reference and I was like...do they watch the Yogscast?? And it's not unlikely, Yogs and Holo and Niji and Vshojo all pretty well known.
There's an update coming 9th of September, adding more characters, a new level, and a couple of extra things. Watching Tom stumble trying to guess what each of the enemies is is amusing.
Its so nice to see that someone, that has no idea what Hololive is, can enjoy this game so much. By the way Tom, that Asa coco is a dragons tail butt plug. Don't ask... the lore is deep and complicated... don't go down the rabbit hole, you will not come out of it. 12:43 I can hear Fubuki scream "NO no no, I'm fox, no cat, ok?!" xD
I've seen some of this in other comments already, but here's some of the major mechanics in play in Holocure you don't see in Vampire Survivors: -You can strafe! This skill is critical later in the level and especially in endless mode, check it out in the keybinds. -Characters each have a triggered Special Attack that can be activated when the special meter is filled. This also has its own keybind. This feature must be purchased through the Upgrade Shop, which unlocks it for all characters. -Characters start with a unique weapon, which "Awakens" at level 7, becoming more powerful and gaining new mechanics such as AOEs, homing projectiles, etc. In the current built of Holocure it's quite strong to bee-line the upgrade for each character's weapon before picking other upgrades. -Characters have unique character Skills, which are distinct from Items. Skills don't take up Item slots, and usually scale to become quite strong or gain new mechanics at max level. -Weapons can combo together, "collab," by leveling them to 7 and using a golden anvil. Not every two weapons in the game have a combo, but there's currently quite a few so feel free to experiment or look up a guide. -There's a boss fight at 20 minutes, don't just facedive into the boss like Vampire Survivors you gotta defeat them to complete the level. -Character unlocks are handled entirely through the Character Gatcha, 1000 coins per pull. -Holocure version 0.4 is out on the 9th, almost doubling the number of characters and adding a second level. The game's dev, Kay Yu is active on Twitter and I'm sure feature suggestions such as the damage overview on the endscreen that you mentioned would be welcome.
Damn, didn't expect Tom to play this, but just a few days before a massive update too, nice. It has some really nice ideas that honestly put it on the same level as VS for me, activated abilities and such.
Seeing Tom unknowingly playing around with Asacoco(tm) and BL books brings me a level and nature of joy I never knew I needed in my life. also that zoom in at 6:38; wonder if ya boi Josh has a clue
THIS IS THE COLLAB OF THE CENTURY. Oh my god, Tom not knowing what plug-type Asacoco is... oh my god this is brilliant. Then later he says "tail." He figured it out.
This doesn't work with every character though. Some characters specifically only attack left/right, like Ame and Irys. Ame's description mentions this, but Irys' doesn't.
Watching Tom react to the different weapons, enemies, and references without knowing anything about Hololive was so amusing. Hope he figures out what the plug type Asacoco really is XD
The Angory Tom playing a Hololive fan game! My two favorite worlds collide! Absolutely loved this one Tom! Please play more! Without spoilers here's 3 tiny tips if you do decide to do more on or off camera: 1. Check the controls for the "Strafe" key, I've yet to play another survivor game with this function and it is SO useful! It keeps your character facing one direction while you move in a other, world changing! 2. In the main menu's upgrade shop, go buy the 500 coin upgrade for the "Press X for Ability". This gives ALL characters a unique "super" ability that changes the playstyle of each and is just a joy to mess around with! 3. Also at the main menu there's a "character gacha" It's costly but you can obtain more characters or get marginal upgrades for the ones you've already unlocked. Every character has their own little unique upgrades! P.S. Don't let the "you don't understand the references!1!" fans get to you, it's an absolute joy to see you take in the chaos of the game without any prior knowledge of it! :D
These are _the essential starting tips,_ and you did a really great job of explaining them as well. Tom picked the perfect time to play this with the update dropping in 2 days, so everybody will be diving back into it again and have lots more tips on builds - especially with the existing characters and abilities getting rebalanced as well. Even if he doesn't fall down the rabbit hole like he did with _Star Trek_ I hope he manages to just enjoy his own "Yourhammer" version and providing us with amusing guesses about what things are.
@@legion999 Nope. You aim the direction you move with the keyboard unless you're holding the strafe key. Some characters like Ame can only fire right & left.
Fauna was as huge fan of Yogscast and Shadows of Israphel back in the day. Eventually joins Hololive. Gets Included in the Fangame...which gets played by Tom! THE CIRCLE IS COMPLETE
Welcome to the madness that is Holocure Tom. There is a lot of stuff you have yet to figure out yet there is an update on the 9th that will change it up somewhat.
@@gentlemanbuck1438 then there are the KFP employees (the chickens) And also the big shrimp is the giga/mega-shrimp ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-lsFr7NzVVM8.html
Really cool to see you play this game Tom ! All the characters are actually Vtubers from Hololive (Vtuber agency) have all the weapons and skills are references to their community and universe. There's a lot to discover in this game, I really enjoyed it. Also... press P when you're next to the dog :DD
You tuned into this game in a lucky time, since an update is slated at 9th/10th this month; it adds more playable characters, and maybe a new map, if I recall correctly.
Unlocking the Ultimate Attacks in the global upgrades is the most important thing is when you're first starting out as it's basically an essential gameplay mechanic.
Tom wondering what the hell everything is (and calling Fubuzilla a cat) was perfect. The rabbit hole beckons. Also, the music is good, but I'm excited for them to add more tracks. Any song can get annoying if it's looped over and over for hours, despite _Suspect_ having good breakdowns. ... and yes, Tom, the tail is a buttplug.
Note for the Editor: When talks about 'Slithers' when it comes to Magic: The Gathering what he's saying is 'Slivers'...and yes they are still about in MTG, they crop up every so often.
First Ultra C, now Tom. The fact that this game successfully attracts bearded old men who aren't even involved in the whole vtube stuff goes to show that it's mechanically well-executed.
First: I'm legit thrilled you're playing this, there's also a major update on 9/9 so I hope you come back to it when that comes out. This has probably one of my favorite features of a Vampire Survivors like game which is the strafing mechanic, there's a keybind and you can rebind it ofc but it allows you to keep your facing direction in one way no matter where you move. You'll probably like Calli and Ina from the starter vtubers if you give the game another go. Honestly was not expecting Angory Tom when I saw this Thumbnail but it was a pleasant surprise. Most of the items and stuff are references to the community or streamers in question that this game is about but you don't have to know them... though if you do fall into the rabbit hole, welcome. The Psycho Axe is actually a reference to one of the vtubers in/famous Project Winter streams. Several of them are references to Minecraft. As a fan/person who's played this game quite a bit The enemies are (before the 9/9 update): Shrimp, Skeleton, Octopi, Chicken, Spirits?, chungus dog, Fox, rat, clock, sapling, owl, ...there's really no explaining that one, and finally Smol Ame. Their actual names are: Shrimps, Deadbeats, Takodachi (octopus friend), KFP, IRyStocrats (bloom and gloom), Investigators/Thicc Bubba, Fubuzilla (miniboss), Baerat, Kronie, sapling, hooman, Sanallite, and Smol Ame (Boss) Most importantly hitting P when Bubba is nearby lets you *pet the dog*.
Damn! never expected to see this game played here! But thinking about it it just makes sense that Tom would give it a try :D Looking forward to more of these! Pretty funny also that the big giant fox turned out to be a giant cat according to Tom! :D :D :D :D
Kind of timely this came out now: HoloCure will be having their first major update tomorrow, which will add 9 more characters, new maps, and a whole host of other features. If you liked it now, it'll be a whole lot better with the upcoming update.
This is the person who adapted the song to chiptune : ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-r_GAxGs88jQ.html This is the original song: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-5lFmjbdOTyc.html
The main ways this game differs from Vampire Survivors: - the characters, each has a different starting weapon, three different passives and a different ult (all of those are character-specific, you can't get them with another character, the ult has to be unlocked in the shop) - you can get stat upgrades on level up - you can strafe - evolved weapons are always a fusion of two weapons - you unlock characters through a gacha with the coins you get ingame, duplicates boost the stats for that character - art and music that's actually good The first point makes the game way better than VS at variying playstyles. Some characters are better suited for dodge builds, some for healing builds, some for crits, etc., they all play differently. The others don't matter much in making the experience really different, but are still nice to have
I was expecting this, but also not. Since you can enjoy this without knowing anything and how the hype for it has picked up due to a big upcoming update. But I wasn’t expecting Tom to play this anime styled game. Edit: I’m also super happy because I get to watch both my favorite groups at the same time. Also can’t wait for Tom to find out that there’s plenty of combos that lets him just stand there.
24 hours until new update version dropped (v. 0.4) - New Stage (new music) - 9 new character - large amount of new Item and Weapon. - controller supported - auto-update via game launcher. - pity roll system - costume for character
As you probably guessed. Everything in this game references the Hololive Vtubers group and their fans are the enemies because of some evil virus or something. Quick tips, if you max out weapons (max level is 7) some of them combine to make super weapons. You’ll know you did it right if a gold anvil appears Each of the characters has an ultimate, you can unlock that and other upgrades in the upgrade menu. And basically you use coins to roll for new members in the character gacha. Also the game was just updated today. It added 9 new characters (vtubers), some new items, and a second stage which is MUCH harder than the first.
I'd say it's an unexpected surprise, but this is Tom we're talking about. He's bound to play any Survivors-style game, maybe even the toned-down version of that sexy one I saw on Steam.
YESSSS YESSSSSSS YESSSSSSSS!!!! Tom, if you're reading this, an update for Holocure is coming out in a few days and it's adding 8 new characters and a bunch of items and things. If this were a series, I'd probably break out into song and dance
i am happy you enjoyed it my dude. Play as you want of course, it's always fun to see someone new play this, but I do recommend looking into strafing in the controls and buying the special move in the unlockables. Gives every character a super to use
Slivers could very well be making a comeback in Magic soon. One of the upcoming sets is traveling back in time, so there will be loads of callbacks to the olden days.
Oh my god, I never imagined any of the yogscast, especially Tom, would have anything to do with something Hololive related. So wild. This is the power of video games.
Hilarious to see someone with absolutely no context talk about this game which is just entirely composed of references. Speaks to how strong the game is then it can stand on its own without needing to have knowledge of said references! I hope he does absolutely no research before the next video, I love to watch someone try to piece together all these things just via the game
WOW! Tom and Hololive, what a crazy crossover! Can't wait for him to try out and the weapon collabs. He was pretty close to getting my personal favorite collab with Plug Type Asacoco + Fan Beam.
...I found this really fun! ...and then I looked at the comments & found out I actually had no context at all for what this was. In toms words, shit the bed...
it rather fun seeing someone who doesn't have any idea of the references play and enjoy the game. and someone has probably told you already, but you can pet the dog by holding P when close enough to him and not moving
Its so funny watching someone not used to Hololive play the game and enjoy it! Its a fan project for a very special group of people and I'm glad you liked it so much!!
Totally absolutely a complete coincidence that this drops on Hololive's 5th anniversary, riiiggghtt? I've had a sneaking suspicion for a while... There was a time a few months back when it seemed like Tom was playing quite a few games I'd see the girls playing... Maybe it was coincidence.. But I chose to believe he was getting some inspiration from watching some streams.
The year is 2561. The robot that is currently housing Tom's brain is recording their 205827th video in a row. It speaks. "Beep boop. Today, we are playing Mesopotamian Pottery Survivor. It is basically vampire survivor but with nods to the dawn of human society and far better, pottery. Beep."
As a lot of people have said, this is a fan game based on the Vtubers from Hololive! The available characters to play now are the English ones, but an updates coming out soon with some JP ones. As everyones touched on the other aspects, I wanted to let you know that enemies are representations of the different vtuber's fanbases, or their mascots: Orange Shrimps - Gawr Gura's fans are shrimps called the Chumbuds. Skeletons - Calliope Mori's Deadbeats Chickens in waistcoats - Takanashi Kiara's KFP (Kiara Fried Phoenix) employees. Round Purple blobs - Ninomae Inanis' Takodachis, members of her Tentacult. Big Brown Dog men - Not actually Amelia watson's fans, but a version of her mascot Bubba (the dog thats her companion in the game). All the enemies are like this, theyre either the Vtubers fans or mascots. It's the same with the items and power's, they're all references too - Watson has a lot of upgrades for crit and bullets as she's an FPS fan.
As a Hololive fan it brings me such great joy to see Tom try and decipher these references. Would be cool to see you play the update in a couple of days.
