"I kinda like the buttplug becauuuuuse, uhhhhhh, you know, you don't have to worry about it. Just take it and it just does its thing. And...that feels good." - Angory Tom
Lore on the enemies: Shrimps = Chumbuddies, Gawr Gura's fans Gura is an Atlantean shark girl. Skeletons = Dead Beats, Calliope Mori's Fans Calli is the first Aprentice of the grim reaper and a rapper. Octopuses = Takodachi, ninomae ina'nis' (Ina) fans Ina is a priestess of the anceint ones. Not a cult™ Thicc Dogs = Teamates/Investigators = Amelia Watson's fans Ame is a time travelling detective, she has a dog called bubba, the weird dog enemies are based on some cursed art. Chickens = KFP employees, Takanahi Kiara's fans Kiara is a phoenix that runs a fast food chain called Kiara Fried Phoenix, KFP. Floating fairy orbs = IRyStocrats, fans of IRyS IRyS is a nephilim and is hope, I'll be honest and say I'm not sure what that actually means in context. Clocks = Kronies, Ouro Kronii's fans Kronii is the warden of time selected by the gods. Rats = Brats, Hakos Baelz's fans Bae is a rat and the chairperson of "The Council". She represents Chaos. round plants = Saplings, Ceres Fauna's Fans Fauna is the keeper of nature. Owls = HOOmans, Nanashi Mumei's fans Mumei is an owl and the guardian of civilisation. Those... snake... things... = Uh jesus right so, Tsukomo sana the speaker of space has this little guy with her called yatagarasu, in a vr chat halloween collab Council and Irys used messed up avatars and Sana's had her fuse with yatagarasu into that abomination. Oh yeah and Sana's fans are called Sanalites. So uh... yeah. You asked :)
Also lore of the game. You are rescuing crazed fans from brainwashing. Whenever you defeat a fan you see a heart appear above them before they disappear.
The one thing to explain why the enemies look like what they look like is due to the fact that the enemies you are fighting are your fans being brainwashed, and as the idols, you must fight to free them from their mindcontrol. Thus, each enemy represents an idol's fanbase On a sidenote about official endorsement, while the game is a fan made game, and has no affiliation to the company that oversees the talents, many of the talents have been playing the game, so it's at least highly looked upon by the company
Also everything that contains the word "asacoco" is just a different tool to consume the made-up drug called that way. The name Asacoco (meaning "morning coco") stems from a daily show an ex-member "Kiryu Coco" made. During the show she'd sometimes have like pre-made bits where she'd let other members "try the drug" by various means. The humor comes from the members all supposedly being "good girls" so them taking drugs obviously goes against that.
Asacoco was for increasing their female energies! (supposedly) Or as the old song goes, "she goes running for the shelter of her Mother's Little Helper"
@@nick012000 at least we never really lost her, she went back to being KSON and is now in Vshojo. She's unusual in that she occasionally streams with just her cam doing chat (sometimes a vtuber, sometimes just her streaming.)
Tom! Update the game before getting new characters with the Gacha, because you'll get credits for duplicates that you can use on the current version and the update keeps all the progress you've made.
@@johntan4997 Well, he mentions 9 seconds in to this video that he knows that there have been updates to the game, so seems like it's just classic Tom laziness in this case.
Nice seeing people with no clue about the references enjoy and play the game! A little tip if you dont know, you can hold "Z" by default to lock where you're facing so you can move forward while attacking backwards. Another little thing about the game if you bother to read it. The enemies you face in game are the fans of the Vtubers. Hence why you can see your little ghost friends have same sprites as one of the enemies.
This is a "worlds collide" situation I never expected. My two favorite youtuber groups intersecting via my favorite Yog. I am so baffled and I love every second of it
Tom Tom, if you do update the game, download the new launcher and copy the items from the old Holocure folder into the new holocure folder, that way your progress and coins won't be lost - there are a few RU-vid videos on the process that can probably explain it much clearer than I can! :)
I'm sure the comments will be quick to fill him in as, even if you knew what it implied, you can't really see the… assets in the chibi pixel form to make a guess if you don't know their look outside of the game.
@@toyohimeyeswatatsuki6917 I know that now, and I understood the joke when I wrote that, I just wasn’t sure at the time if it was just a joke or an actual mechanic
I honestly cannot see Hololive En collabing with the Yogscast, they haven’t even collabed with Niji En and have hardly collabed with VShojo. I can however see Vshojo collabing with the Yogscast. I can see Boba specifically getting along very well with Nyanners or Ironmouse.
It's kinda funny how much interaction has been going on between Yogs and Hololive without either side knowing. Tom's playing Holocure without knowing any of the references and Fauna (member of Hololive and plant lady) talked about the Yogs and how she wanted to play Plate Up and is waiting for permissions. Funny how Fauna also used to play Dota2
few small tips to make the game more fun... 1) hold z to lock the direction you are atacking so you can hit enemies as you run away 2)update mostly cuz alot of the items get a big boost to balancing such as the paw being way more damage and only 20% less crit 3)colabs are op but not nescesery unless you re strugling or going for endless runs to earn coins and clout :P
When you upgrade items past their awakened state, upgrading starts to use coins. It might be worth saving those coins to buy some global upgrades in the shop, or for pulling more characters, at least until you've built up more coins.
I doubt you care, but you pronounce the character you were playing Ni no ma-e (although usually she's called Ina from her first name Inanis). The name Ninomae means 1 (lit. before 2)
There is indeed solid metas for a lot of characters. For Ina, the one you're playing as in this video, and in the version you're playing (it has been fixed in the last big update), you can literally become unkillable. As in, you can't even die on purpose because you just regen too much health and get too much invulnerability time.
I mean it is still possible to become unkillable just harder and a few others could do it Ina is just the best to do the ina lock aka you get no rewards in an endless run because you can’t die even if you want to
Ok. So the thing with all the weird enemies. All the playable characters are RU-vidrs and Streamers(specifically VTubers working for Hololive). So all the enemies are the mascots representing the fans/chat of specific Vtubers. For example, the skeletons represent Calliope Mori's fans (the grim reaper character with the scythe), and the clocks represent fans of a character you haven't unlocked yet named Kronii (who's supposed to be a personification of time). Also, all of the fan groups have names, for example, the skeletons are called "DeadBeats" (That pulling the weight of multiple jokes because Calli is a rapper), and the purple ghost things are takodachis (the name being some combination of the Japanese words for octopus and friend). You don't really need to remember/know any of them. It's just a fun extra thing if you're interested. As to why they're violently fighting with their fans, well... There's a half-baked story at the start of the game about how they've gone crazy and your actually saving them; But considering you use things like guns, lava, and sharp objects, the story doesn't really hold up to close expectation and is just a filler excuse so you kill them guilt-free. Thankfully the game is more about the gameplay and references than the story. And, as the "Asacoco" showed, most of the weapons and skills are based on memes, and in-jokes related to specific streamers. With a few (mostly the character's main weapon) being based on the lore for their character models*. Back to the game. I'm not sure if you're a controller or keyboard person, but the new update has controller support. Which is a little easier at the moment because they haven't figured out aiming with a mouse yet. Regardless, if you're more of a keyboard person you can lock the direction you're targeting with Z. *On the off chance you don't know, Vtubers use 2 or 3d models with motion capture when they stream. Sometimes they lean into the lore and character but most of the time the model and lore are functionally just good-looking privacy screens for otherwise normal RU-vidrs.
The one thing I thing that will help Tom the most is learning how to strafe; Hold down Z and you'll stay facing one direction while moving. Helpful for tentacles/beams/etc.
The lore of the game is that the playable characters are "idols" (even though they don't act like it, except sora and azki in the newer update) are tasked to save the viewers or fans. The fans became corrupted by the unknown entity and it is up to these "idols" to save/cure them. The idols are just bonking them back to their senses, not necessarily killing them. I hope this can help explaining the basic lore of the game.
Also there is strafing in the game. The newer update has controller support. One thumb stick is movement and the other thumb stick is aiming. You can rebind the button layout to what ever load out you like. There are super items in the new update that has no down side for the support items. There just rare to encounter.
you can hold down a key that lets you lock in a direction to use your primary weapon. it's in the parameter btw, you have to simply hold the button down and you can for exemple run to the left while shooting towards the right
What I like more about holcure than VS is that characters actually feel very different with the unique weapons and skills. Sure VS has a buff for each character but they feel a lot less personalized and not that unique. Also the update coming out in a few days adds a lot of side content (stardew valley mode with minigames) and 9 whole new characters. Also if you know Hololive a bit there is so many easter eggs and references.
One of the best features of this game is strafe key. Tom still hasn't figured it out. It lets you attack in one direction while walking in any direction. Helps you attack while walking backwards. Maybe by this 100th run.
Just so it's easier for future reference Tom. The characters in the top section in Myth are called Amelia or Ame (ah-may), Gura, Ina (E-na), Kiara (Key-are-ra), and Calli. Ame is the only one who goes first name last name, all other characters names are family name and then personal name so look at the second one for what to call them.
In that version you can actually use Ina (the tentacle character) to make an infinite afk run. Her kit is all about getting surrounded by enemies and getting stronger by it. The phantom octopi actually heal you if you max the ability and because of a glitch they're considered enemies so they proc enemy related items that enhance your survavility.
If you roll the gacha in Council, you can get a character that tosses dice as their weapon and deal damage according to their roll. They also have a lot of fun crit synergies. Very Tom character. More dice = more good
You can lock your facing with Y on the keyboard, X uses your special. In the latest version controller support was added as well which is far superior to keyboard. Left stick moves right stick aims. edit: now that i think about it it's probably Z to lock facing on most keyboards whichever letter is next to X :)
There's a new update, just download the new version and merge it into the old game folder to keep your saves. There's also a basic form of aiming in the game, where you hold the confirm button to lock your current aim direction into place, let's you run away from enemies while aiming at them. If you add the game to your steam library, you'll also be able to use a controller of your choice, with a little settings tinkering
Each Hololive member’s fans have a name and a theme and a representation etc, those are who you’re fighting. The lore for this game is that an evil force corrupted the fans and you’re subduing them. For example, the skeletons represent “deadbeats” who are fans of Mori Calliope, the girl with the scythe The little octopus guys are “takodachis” which are Ina’s fans, that’s why she creates nice ones with that ability
well idk if you actually want to learn anything about the lore or just want more comments for the algorithm but here you go The character you played here is ninomae ina'nis (or Ina) she is a priestess of the old ones ever since she found her cool book. her fans are known as the Takodachi (i think it means Octopus?) canonically they are little cute void beings that resemble Octopi. and yes the ghost friends you make with her power are the same kind of creature as the enemies, just friendly and heal you when they reach you.
Jeff Carpenter covered a lot, but some of the references are to things the various Hololive girls have done. As an example, Spider Cooking. Haaachama did a cooking stream where she cooked and ate ( ! ) a spider and the lava bucket refers to something Miko-chi did in Minecraft.... Miko-chi dropped a lava bucket in her house, which set everything on fire.
tom there's a strafe button where you stay facing the direction u were fazing when u start holding it down but your still able to move around like normal so u can hit and run at the same time. its z on keyboard and a/x on controller. Also the vtubers are from Hololive incase you didn't know
basically all the enemies are the mascots of the vtubers, "holocure" cuz they are curing the fans from something idk, update the game cuz there are like 9 new characters and 2 stages more, progress won't reset. also try out mumei if u get her, she has the best special :)
The injection would probably be pretty good with Korone (she's only in the new version) because of the Choco Coronet ability. Combine that with other healing items and you could probably get an insane Korone damage build
You mentioned that "there as been an update", but it seems like you haven't downloaded it yet, so I just wanted to let you know that you need to redownload the game if you want to get the new update. Your save files should carry over between version
Would be nice to see you roll for some of the other characters, the rat character has probably my favourite special cause she just attacks rapidly with every weapon you have.
Tom over here hating on exoskeleton types saying that if your skeleton is on the outside you should see a doctor like it isn't regular livelihood for so many species. But also what a really enjoyable video. Well played.
So you have to actually grab the update which I know you said in the comments you've now realized you needed to do. But the injection can actually work really well with one of the new characters who's basically a heal tank. Though there's also another character who you currently have access to who could use it really well too but regardless it is a very dangerous item.
You have to update the game manually to see any new content, typically by downloading a new build from the same download page and replacing the files in your HoloCure folder (your save is kept in a separate %AppData% folder, so don't worry, copy and pasting is fine) There is also a downloadable launcher that allows you to update the game with a click of a button, but take it from me; it's risky, as use of it resulted in my save file being lost, so I wouldn't recommend it.
I'd recommend trying the strafe mechanic or using a controller, really changes the game and makes it feel so much smoother especially when using weapons that only fire forward
I wonder how long it will take Tom to figure out there's a button that lets you lock your aiming into place while moving. It's something Vampire Survivors doesn't have but really should, as it makes aimed weapons (like the Tentacle here) easier to play with.
I searched up Legend of the Overfiend because I never heard of it before and will watch a video about it with my wife tomorrow. I hope this goes well, I blame you if anything goes wrong. Thanks buddy.
If you want to know the origin of the gang skellys and gang shrimps (and partly the idea behind the whole game) you should watch the mv Q by Gawr Gura and Calliope Mori.
So maybe someone has explained it, maybe not, but all the mobs are the silly Fan embodiment of different HoloLiveEN VTuber. Also some other HoloLive things as well. The thug skeletons and Shrimps are from a song video sung by two of the HoloLive Members. Just RU-vid [Q] and it will probably be the first one.
I've been playing this game after watching Tom in the first video, and while I do love it. It has started to feel pretty limited in the skills department. Also the first map has just gotten pretty easy. I've used multiple characters but quite like the Pheonix one, and I'll collab the lava bucket with the axe and just like that I'm an over powered killing machine.
