Yah, that happened to me. I bought a $3000 David Yurman ring less than a year ago and had it sized. I got it back and the signature along with the gold karat was completely taken off.

Well you’d be pissed at yourself then because the jeweler can’t keep a marking on the band if that’s where it’s being sized.

It’s not really that rare -- it’s that the round “brilliant” cut is more desired by most women.

Not as many women have emerald cuts because they don’t sparkle as much, but my diamond is an emeral cut. I love the shape. I think it is an elegant stone.

This style ring/setting would look lovely with a smaller stone. The ring in this video is "Hollywood" big--quite flashy and bold--and probably would only appeal to a limited clientele.

@Ken: It’s not really that “big”. Elizabeth Taylor’s ring is BIG. That 5 carat ring is the perfect size for many women.

Same here. My parents were married 10 days shy of 77 years when Mom passed away in 2022. I have her modest rings. We (my siblings and I, grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great grandchild, nieces and nephews as well my parents' own siblings) have been very blessed and are truly grateful.

It happens when reheating, if its not resized by the same jeweller they can't legally put the same brand on so take it to the same jeweller you bought it from.

Except that she has the original paperwork on the ring, so it retains it's value.

Insuring jewelry is very expensive. I've let mine lapse because eventually I would've paid the same for insurance as I did for the jewelry. Approximately ten years or so depending on the piece.

most people don't insure their jewelry

I have a friend who insured her jewelry for a couple of years but then then the cost was so ridiculous -- she found great places to hide it. It’s been about over 40 years now of clever ways to hide a significant amount of expensive jewelry. Just make sure that you tell someone you trust where it is in case you drop dead otherwise it could end up in the garbage or somewhere where no one would think to look. Just saying.

If it's not insured, you don't dare wear it, so you can't even enjoy the beauty.

Yes, sounds about right. Diamonds, outside of rare colors or extremely large high quality stones are not investments. The best you can hope for is to break even in the long run.

Mother sounded like a cunning gold digger tbh. And the woman already knew it's value (lack of surprise) and was on the show just to show it off.

Notice how relaxed they are that the transfer of wealth in even a brief marriage is from man to woman - and I bet they'd describe themselves as feminists. It's the same thinking that makes the shift back and forth between 'I am woman, hear me roar' and 'women need to be protected' so easy and seamless. I don't think diamonds can be scratched, but the diamond in this ring looks very "dirty". Unimpressive and I wonder about the appraisal. Must be because the daughter had the paperwork.

@@huascar66 I use to be a diamond specialist for a large retailer. Pinpoints are inside the diamond and not on the surface-as you said it's very hard to scratch a diamond without using another diamond. Also, 70's VC&A larger diamonds had serial numbers inscribed in the mounting and without the serial number (daughter claimed she had it sized thus cutting out the SN) the ring would have to sent to GIA for a reliable report. Also, no one in their right mind would have the VC&A name removed not even a jeweler. It's like erasing TIFFANY'S from a piece of jewelry. Additionally, the man wedded frequently for short-term marriages-I'm guessing he was a shyster and her mother exaggerated the story of his wealth to cover her humiliation. Gems are often popped out of a setting and the gold mountings are used for other stones. The whole story seems staged.
