FOUR KEYS TO THE VAN HALEN SOUND: DIAMOND DAVE’S SCREECHING WITH WHOOPS AND HOLLERS EDDIE’S GUITAR 🎸 ALEX’S SNARE DRUM 🥁 AND MICHAEL ANTHONY’S STRATOSPHERE BACKING VOCALS!!! VAN HALEN: I SAW ALL THE TOURS WITH ROTH FROM VAN HALEN 1 IN 1978 TO 1984 AND AGAIN IN 2013! I SAW 5150, OU812, FOR UNLAWFUL CARNAL KNOWLEDGE AND BALANCE WITH HAGAR. As much as fair warning to Ed "no-one cared" it's one of their best albums and Dave was upset he lost his best friend. Incredible album though love ❤ fair warning

i think FW is hands down most often picked by the majority of VH fans as their favorite album. I can still remember getting it in like 1983 and hearing Mean Street for the first time. Just mind blowing.

@@STEVEHEROLD I super concur with you. Such a powerful guitar album, Alex showcased how good his drumming was on mean street, the guitar riff on mean street gets better everyday, lyrics were and still are dark and mysterious on that album. The tour and overall vibe with the fire gong is alien like. Couldn't agree with you more. 👏

@@STEVEHEROLD Even daves unique vocal screams were at its best and vocally on a van halen record overall on that album. 👌 just my opinion of course. Love ❤ love that album. just killer man on every level imaginable

Yeah , Eddie really fought Ted Templeman just to keep any cover tunes out of the album . This album is when Eddie took more control of making albums .

It was ED'S GUITAR playing that got most of the attention from Ted Templeman & Mo Austin in 1977 when they were signed. & DLR would BULLY Mike unfairly .

Edward was up late in 1996, “ it takes more than one person” “what does Van Halen mean to you” He would call in evening and talk till 4 am or later and Steve Rosen would be beeping in the call waiting. Everyone that was around back then knew Edward was on the opposite side of the clock 🕰 as they say. Love you Al and miss you guys.

I hate to say this. because I love the VH brothers, but they should have went on tour with Dave that year.sounde like the brothers were more immature this time. They did the tour later anyway. It's a shame because those 2 songs were 2 of the best songs they've ever done

@@STEVEHEROLD yeah me too man and I don't even follow the grateful dead. Lol hearing them talk about it all sounds childish. They know how Dave was. He was always that way. And I would have did the dead head thing too. It would have been the best four ever. I love those 2 songs. And it was a mistake because the Gary Cherone thing didn't work. Love the brothers dearly but seems like that was on them a bit.Its a crying Shame. 2 incredible songs. simply iconic.

@@akfreed6949 bottom line, they had Dave back and they drop the ball on that. They just didn't keep him in 96,97,or 98 that's the bottom line. I've has 3 strokes dude and I f'n get shit done like a monster. Everyone and their dead grandmother wishes they kept dave a second time. Can't make excuses. They didn't keep 'em and they should have. That's the bottom line because whatever they did post Dave 1996 blew and it could have been perfection with a pulse. EVIDENCE Doesn't lie .Go back and listen. You can't listen because there's nothing there after that. Facts.

Sammy was called on father's day 96 , they had just came off the Balance tour and Sammy had a newborn daughter he wanted to spend some time with then they had planned on making another album , Eddie wanted Sam back in the studio asap and wanted to make a best of album and Sam put his foot down and said no way . Then Eddie said you frustrate me , you never do anything we ask you to do , Sam said yeah I do then Eddie said you've always been a solo artist you might as well just go back to being one quote unquote , Sammy also went on to say when Eddie called him that morning Eddie was drunk as a skunk and wouldn't surprise me if Eddie didn't even remember calling him .

Not sure about this interview but around this time I think Alex mentions that the 1984 Dave is not the same as the 1996 Dave and that going out on tour with him now(1996) would be ripping off the fans.

@@akfreed6949 You know exactly what I mean and every real VH fan was frustrated at the lack of output from Ed in that period from Cherones departments to ADKOT...14 years of squat, and I'm not including the disastrous reunion with Sammy in 03. Noodling (Ed's words for playing his guitar) is not working on an album.

What I don't like is Sammy caused the problems between himself and Ed . Ed NEVER said anything differently since the day Sammy refused to work on the greatest hits album . That's all it was . Warner Bros wanted a greatest hits album with one new song with Dave and another with Sammy . But Sam lies about it in his POS book RED . It was supposed to be about him BUT he made the book a smear campaign against the Van Halen Bros .

From an entertainment trade paper interview , Ed fought for Gary with the record company while they were making a couple songs allegedly . The record company told him the next album would have to be with Dave or Sam . Ed was going to fight them until Gary showed up to his place wearing some really tacky looking Elvis style jumpsuit . That's when the future with Gary ended .

Dave Roth is best described as a lounge act singer.. a cabaret type.. Plagued by a limited vocal range Ed had to write music to accommodate Dave's weaknesses. Sammy was a professional singer with no limitations on his vocals. Plus Sammy could play guitar. David Lee Roth is a washed up old news wannabe Rock star..a joke.
