On the second listen I legitimately forgot it was you guys and not Van Halen. It's mind-blowing that You guys have the perfect tones and the perfect production/ mix too.
Dude. The best!! Like the Van Halen brothers where injected in you guys somehow. Would love to track bass and vocals to some of your recordings if that's cool
That was excellent! I have goosebumps! You two are both excellent musicians! I hope I get the change to hear you both playing Van Halen tunes like this live someday when this covid thing chills out and we can start going to live music events again. Great job!
I have thought that Jacob's guitar was a Peavey Wolfgang in this video for like 2 years. I was today years old when I noticed it's a music man Axis... 🤦
No f*'ing way!! What!! I'm speechless!! I've watched this like 6 times now. I am just blown away! Sammy doesn't need Ed or Alex for a Van Hagar era tour. Bring on Jacob and Josh!! Eddie's sound from the balance album was nailed in this performance, along with Alex's sound on the drums. Nailed Nailed Nailed... Well done guys!!! Flawless performance! Be VERY proud of yourselves!
The amount of "homework" done to make this RIGHT is so impressive. I just finished my 8th listen to this upload in the last 2 days. It keeps drawing me back. Jacob and Josh fill a huge void for me. Thank you both 🏆🏆🏆
Jacob's got "IT"... he's got the swing, the swagger, and the pure musicality to emulate the great Eddie in a way that often raises the hair on my arms. And... he gets the SOUND, the effects, the tone, the phrasing... and pulls off Eddie's *spirit* better than any other guitar player I've heard. Flange-on, brother! Kudos to Josh for nailing Alex' drum parts ... and for getting a deeper bass thump out of the kick drum!
Absolutely perfect cover. Incredible reproduction of not just the playing (drummer is phenomenal) but capturing Edward’s tone is no easy feat, the Balance era was a very different, but great era regarding Edward’s sound. It was the era of his first Peavey 5150 amp and guitar. I’m torn between the Fair Warning tone and the Balance. Once again, ABSOLUTELY PERFECT. 👍 🎸
Jeez you guys! ... this is incredible. The skill, and RESPECT that you guys have... to just NAIL this song. Just incredible. Super job capturing lightning in a bottle.
I am extremely critical of anyone attempting Van Halen songs, and I'm always left disappointed and almost annoyed that someone even had the audacity to upload their less than perfect attempt, but you guys have it spot on, and that says a lot coming from me. Congratulations! Balance was their last decent album, and once I had bought VH3 and was left feeling bewildered, I haven't bought any more albums. Keep up the good work, gentlemen 👍
No one gives a shit about when you "jumped ship" (Clearly didn't) or your misguided piece of shit opinion of ADKOT! ADKOT f'n rocks so climb back in your trailer and when Mommy let's you on the internet go to www.trollsareus.com and get your free membership you jackass!
Good lord! That guitar tone is amazing! I'm a drummer so it takes a lot for me to notice something like this. Came here from your Dreams cover and I don't even know this song but it sounds amazing! And that Alex Van Halen snare sound is 100% spot on. Great playing and production gentlemen!!!
This is from the era of Van Halen that I had stopped listening to. Never head this song before in my life, but enjoyed hearing you two doing it as my intro to it. Sounded fantastic, as always.
Hello Gaes..! Piye Kabare Kumaha Damang Whats Up Hoe gaat het met je...?
YOu both fucking NAILED IT TO THE FUCKING T!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! FINALLY SOMEONE FIGURED THE WAY TO GET THAT EPIC BRILLIANT Alex Snare Toned pop from the years 81-2004 IM TOTALLY BLOWN AWAY!!
I Fucking loved it!!!! Both of you nailed it! I wish the two of you were able to do the tribute to EVH at the Grammys. Would have been through the roof in comparison to the acknowledgment or lack there of they gave to Ed. Y’all kick ass!
There are so many hacks out there that do covers, that just goes to show you how playing it exactly like the record is the way to go. It's way more impressive and difficult. I'm so i tired of people saying "Its my own spin on the original" do it right! Like these guys! This is my 10th view, lol
Life long VH fanatic here. This is indistinguishable from Ed and Al. Been watching Jacob for years. Fill-out the band and hit the road! I'd pay. Write some new original "VH" music. (early sound)
I want a band and I want you guys in it love the intensity from the drummer and the spot on guitar from Jacob only problem is I can’t sing or play any musical instruments 😜
BRAVO... young friend! Develop your own style from what you've learned from playing covers and you could be the next Edward Van Halen! I've been a professional player (guitar) for more years than I care to count at this point, and if I've seen anyone on RU-vid that has what it takes to go VERY far, YOU'RE IT! I've watched you for awhile now. No "instant gratification" for you... you practice a lot and are serious about your craft. Long Live Serious Players.... and may alternative and the rest of the "instant gratification" crap die a fast death! I feel badly for you... GREAT players are kinda' shoved aside these days for the other crap that passed as "rock". I was a traveling "rock" pro during the 80's and early 90's and watched serious guitarists slowly get demoted to background status... yes, even bands such as Van Halen to a degree. I had to resort to playing other genres in order to make a living when the mid-90's came along. It's sad... but it is the world we now live in, and it appears to get more generic, "rock" wise, all of the time. Hang in there Jacob and Josh... and ALWAYS stretch yourselves musically. PRACTICE, PRACTICE and then PRACTICE some more! And NEVER give up your dream for anything or anyone. Unless your creator gives you a serious change of direction, NEVER give up on what you were obviously meant to do in one form or another. The difference between you and most RU-vid wannabees, Jacob? You have a very obvious God-given, natural ability. I see people with technique all of the time... that compared to real heart, soul, feeling and natural ability puts ALL ELSE to shame. BTW... EVH and very few others had those natural abilities. Use them to their fullest... because life is short! Again... BRAVO!
I keep practicing this song and watching this video, and it was only just now that I realized it isn't possible to do a better cover of Aftershock by VH. This is it, this is the best possible cover of Aftershock by VH. I don't know if that's amazing, or depressing...
Great cover guys, no easy feat "Aftershock". It's either done this good or it will suck, deceptively complex until you listen to it a few times. Nailed both the drums and guitars. Big fan of the Balance album and Sammy era.
Love it you guys, you work great together. Van Halen is my all time band, anything you play of them is kick-ass. Tell me, Jacob, why are you wearing headphones ? I've seen it many in other video's, TV etc., like Van Halen when are recording at the 5150 studio. Also, the band room recording, why ? ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-QzQLGRJxMOA.html
What a great tribute. Please continue on in the fashion that VH would've done. There's no munudo for that. Ie... KISS. However, their music should remain into the future skulls of musicians to prosper into...like grass grows in Michigan. We're all just gonna be blown away. Great job.
GODDAMNIT THAT WAS GREAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I remember reading an interview with EVH years ago when he was asked his opinion on the fact so many young guitars were trying to sound like him, as in "imitation is the best form of flattery". Of course, Ed being very frank, said he thought that saying was a "crock of sh!t" and that every player should try and be original, rather than copy someone like him. For the most part I tend to agree with Eddie in that area, but due to the fact he is no longer with us, I openly welcome anyone who can play his stuff with the same vibe he had. Jacob my friend, you are the only player that gives me the same "feels" that I get listening to my guitar idol Mr. Eddie Van Halen. Well done!
Now play the actual VH track next to this and hear how tight the replication of guitar playing and tone, as well as the drums. (I’m holding out that you actually isolated the actual tracks). But you’re down, what, a half step from the original? Very punchy!
