@@obamasgrandpapi7925 Check out YourGuitarSage lesson. The most accurate version of the song. Watch how he explains the style that most people seem to be missing.
gabedp21 definitely a great cover and a great lesson, but idk if it’s better than 5150’s they’re both very similar. I think it comes down to personal preference at that point
Rip van halen what a legacy you left behind. The un heard of heroes that play his music alone in there beadrooms that no one has heard of is an army of true legends that learnt of a true legend. Xxx
That first riff with the phase is so impressive. I've played this 1,000 times and can't get that monster tone. Even with the EVH 5150 overdrive & MXR Phase 90. Still the best cover to this day in 2023.
@@philip_si Pros usually get big because they have stage presence, personality, and/or hitmaking ability. There's nothing really wrong with it, especially if we're talking about the songwriting aspect.
14 years ago I discovered Kent and this cover ... And it's been 14 years that I watch that video every now and then (but at least 50 times a year :) ) and I'm still amazed to see that nobody on YT ever made a cover as awesome as Kent of this song. We miss you Kent ! You should re-start making covers !
Your playing is so clean. I'm beyond fascinated. I'm a guitarist who's watched thousands of youtube covers, this certainly makes the top 10. The vibrato and fluidness is insane, I wish you uploaded more. There ain't much people like you.
Still my #1 pick for best cover on RU-vid entirely 🥇 🎸 that tone is monstrous, RIP King Edward 👑 2007 recording, hope all is well with you Kent, best wishes and hope your rocking on well in 2021 🎸
Unbelievable. I have played for many (25+) years and can tell this sounds like you feel the song rather than just playing the tabs. Great tone and incredible control. Hats off1
I still remember when RU-vid was forced to take this video and other videos of his down due to copyright claims... Glad to see it back up and still the best cover out there!
The chills through my body and tears (due to just an overload of emotions!) this video and cover still gives me, even years after discovering it, are unbelievable...
I've watched this video so many times. It replaces the original on my mp3 player because I live the emphasis of the guitar. Finger movements are so fluent. Just the best man. Keep up the anonymous free tuitions this way.
Same here. I adore the original but I prefer this one. I just started playing this month but my goal is to have technique and fluidity like Kent it's insane.
I've come back and watched this several times, and each time, I'm still in awe. It's a pleasure watching a master..up close..but at the same time a bit disconcerting realizing how so very far I am away from being an even average player..
Maybe 15 years ago I first watched this on repeat whilst trying to play along with it for about a week until I realised I sucked but now all these years later I'm back. 👍
ive watched this over 100x...I still watch it when I feel down, or need a motivational boost. This to me is the epitome of what is cool, what is awesome...
Broo I found you when I was like 17 or something like that. You seriously are the best guitar player I have listened to in my life. My opinion some would say. But duuude you got it down.super stand out amazing.
This is pretty much the Video that got me into guitar and Van Halen really.. Now i do sell guitars for a living, Eddie was and still is my biggest Hero. Thanks to you getting me into all of this. Wherever you are, i hope you're well Dude, Thank you!!
I'm going to favourite this for a simple reason: with this view of the fretboard, it makes for an immensely effective way to see exactly what's going on when studying a tune. That's brilliant!
@@glyph68 nahhh , not that hard , for beginners sure it is , but if you have some experience in s.p give it 7 days of practicing for 4-5 hours and you'll get it , but i play guitar for 7 years now , so for me or anyone else that has some technique it ain't that hard , but its still hard thing to pull off . :)
Kent... Them fingers... that fluidity, that dexterity, that tone perfection... that Eddie awesomeness. THANK YOU! I flew jets for 26 years. I could never play a guitar for a moment. Well Done Kent! Play safe, fly safe buddy! :)
@@tuningsnow Well, not anymore... 26 years and 5,000+ hours in many different airframes was enough... Been ALL over the world. Way too may shitholes, bad countries, airports, 3rd, 4th and 5th world countries. I kept the shiny side up, rubbery side down, made all takeoffs and landings add up. Happy. Good luck and safe flying in your aviation career! :)
That's just excellent! Love the camera angle, really helps me get to grips with technique and stuff! Only been playing 8 months so I'm still learning it all! Thanks for that :D
My eleven year old is starting guitar lessons next week, and I had him listen to this cuz his dad and I were like, "Hey Dev, this is what we want to hear you play when you get going with your lessons!" You were really amazing!! We can't wait to be entertained by our little guitarist!!!
GREAT interpretation and in standard tuning...it is played in E flat of course but thank you for plying it in standard tuning so I didn't have to retune..AND GREAT JOB...YOU have the gift my friend.....I hate you...LOL...(rock)
awesome. I been trying 20 years to play this. this is perfect. thanks for the close ups, I am mirroring your technique. your figure tapping is effortless
What an an amazing cover. But watching this I cant help but notice that EVH was the Beethoven of our time. His style and grace of the 6 string will never be surpassed.
In 1979 at age of 10 I bought my first cassette tape. It was this one. I played it so much it fell apart. Been aware of this music for 40 years now, and I can say with experience, that this dude is some kinda good!!! Not sure who’s singing, but if it’s the same dude, what are you doin here brother!!!!!
Let me tell you something, Kent: after watching your videos I was so inspired that I decided to start playing again after 20 years. Jesus Christ, your talent is scary! But your tone...man, that's something else. Thanks for sharing! Hope you're planning to upload some new videos. All the best.
Kent, I've been coming back to this video over and over again for the past 10+ years. And each time I'm just floored by what you're doing. Your technique and smooth finger work has me convinced I'm watching EVH. How is it you didn't join a band on a world tour?
