But unfortunately for most of his life he's always said he needs a few beers to loosen up before he plays, his words..he was a heavy drinker for most of his life..he's sober in this concert, but took him a long time to go on stage sober.
Everyone complaining about this performance, go watch some from the 80's..It's inevitable, they get older and they sound a bit different, but it's a fact that they play it cleaner and tighter nowadays then they did back then. Not a hater, huge fan
Because Dave is a fantastic showman, when you go to see a band play live you want to be entertained, and Dave has to be the most entertaining person on this planet.
What a lot of people don't get is that Dave's into jazz and with his free spirit improvised feelings he just goes with what's happening in the moment. He did that in the early days too but no one seems to hear that because they're dazzled by his lustrous locks, gravity defying jumps and spandex bumps n lumps. How can you not enjoy someone who has such a zest for life? Go Diamond Dave!
This vocals sound very good and they look like they are having a good time and pleasing the audience. Everyone is entitled to their own view, but this sounds better live then better then 90 percent of any band could even do!
Ross Dessel Maybe you were watching a different video than the rest of us? Or the sound was turned really low? The vocals were very good, you say? Perhaps you come from another planet where caterwauling is the height of talent?
Amazing to see Eddie here so clean and healthy compared to how he was doing only a few years before that. Glad that he got sober for his son for at least a while before he passed.
>you sold out whole stadium tour >your songs are well known all around the world >You're singer in one of the greatest rock band in music history >People on RU-vid will call you "shit" You guys are insane...
Sorry if i offend PeskyPuma but this is freaking awesome. Im 16 and went and saw im favorite band from the 1980's! never thought it'd be possible. Almost everthing i own is striped like EVH including my replica guitars... I love this band and would love to see them many more times i hope they dont stop ever and i hope that when the dreadful day they retire the Wolfie takes over Van Halen and starts a new Rock band...
This was a pretty good show. I was there. I also saw them in 2008 and Dave's voice back then was just like the studio versions. I doubt he lost his voice in such a short period. He probably just has it strained, seeing how early concert of the 2012 tour they were playing flawlessly.
I saw Van Halen back in 1976 when they played the Pasadena Civic, before they even got signed. Edward was an awesome guitarist-truly special. David L. Roth couldn't sing worth beans back then and I see he hasn't improved. The bassist hits the high notes. RIP Eddie.
1. All the Roth-Halen years received unprecedented recognition from both the critics and fans. They will go down as one of the greatest US RnR bands ever. VH fans stayed away from Van-Hagar in droves. Poor record sales led to Eddie wanting DLR back; but his ego couldn't stand the love for DLR; as can be seen at the MTV Video awards in 96 (see crowd reaction to DLR) 2. I am a big fan of Hagars solo- Montrose years. 3. Im impressed when the Beatles-Stones-Pink Floyd-etc win a Grammy. Cheers
Wow, talk about a fountain of misinformation. They didn't have poor record sales. They had four number one albums in a row which they never had with David. You DLR groupies are fucking hilarious.
Hagar fans like to skew things but these are the real facts! This one is for the Bubble Gum Rock Hagar Fans: DLR “1984” (1984) - More than 11 million copies sold & Van Halen” (1978) - More than 11 million copies sold Here's Bubble Gum Love rock Hagar: “5150” (1986) - More than 6 million copies sold worldwide & “Balance” (1995) - More than 3 million copies sold worldwide. And the 1986 Album came off the coattails of Dave's big 1984 album. All album Total Roth Sales 37 Million Total Hagar bubble gum love rock 16 Million and now we know why Eddie & Alex V was begging Dave back. Good video Stone throwing Dave would be proud of you.

@@youjoker9647 No, he was an epic front man -- check out his isolated vocal in 'Running with the Devil" again, now on RU-vid too; he brought a lot emotion to the lead vocal.
Ok, so I left a comment a few days ago, but needed to think about this for a few days. I was like, really, was it that bad? Was I too harsh? Yes, it is THAT bad. DLR sucks sucks sucks sucks. The talking vs singing, attempts at blues, dog-like screams, and so on. What a mess. His outfit, face, and hair??? Really?? I guess that's what happens when you lose it and can't get it back together again. I do LOVE Van Halen through all eras.
Just found out today that the red and white guitar is call “frankenstrat”. It’s made up of multiple guitar parts from different guitars, I’d say that is how Eddie got part of “his” sound. Although one of the guitars manufacturers produced a signature model that even Eddie said he had a hard time telling the difference between the sound of his vs. their production model.
I feel like Ritchie Vallen’s brother screaming RITCHIE! But I’m screaming EDDIE!!! We miss you so much and can’t believe you’re really gone. Love you brother.
Im embarrassed watching and hearing this. Man, I saw them 5 times back in the day. 2 times with Roth and 3 with Sammy. I think I'll keep my memories over this ( cough cough) performance.
Just came here from a 1978 video of the same song. Wow, the vibe they once had is kinda gone to be honest... no jamming, no feeling of everything going crazy. Nothing. O.o
that kid on bass? thats eddie van halen's son, Wolfgang :) what id like to know, where did he get his size from? lol - eddies small, his mom was-is indonesian-asian petite, maybe his dutch dad was larger, i dunno but man, Wolfgang's got size,..............
Sweet !!!!!! Love Seeing Most of the Originals on stage Again ;)) in My Eyes These Guys Payed there Due's And all I Ever hear and See is The Original Studio song Cuts in my Brain Anyway~~ Hell Yeah !!!!!! HugS !!!!!!
Watching David Lee is mesmerizing...in this for sure...but more with confusion of the camera distance as it could be Sting or some Humanities professor getting his chance on stage...guess I need glasses 🤓
Nobody did it better than DLR and VH back in the early 80's... and I'm a big fan of Dave over Sammy (it's not VH without Dave). However Dave has 'lost some of his flair along with his hair'. I pray for hair transplants and vocal chord surgery before they try another tour.
hahahaha! Best laugh I've had all day. When this song came out I knew people who thought DLR was the coolest guy on Earth. I wonder what they think now lol
I have read about a few songs from 5150 wrote while Dave was still in, but not the ones you have listed here. Tell me where I can find some proof to this. I would love to hear Dave attempt to sing 1 single song from the Hagar era. He won't and never would be able to.
lot of great songs that aren't being played! 1985 to 95. .awesome songs I can't hear unless I c the circle. .not same w out Mike n big AL. .so do us all a favor miss n make up!! let Dave go bk 2 Vegas
Dear God no! Stop, watching unless you want all memories of the great Van Halen erased from memory and replaced with this. Please don't do this guys. You mean too much to me!
