Me (Joshua Gallagher, 18) covering Van Halen's "Hot For Teacher" from their 1984 album entitled "1984"
Yes I'm at it again because this is one of my favourite songs and I finally had the equipment (sort of) to do the song justice now! I'm really happy with how this cover turned out even though it was immensely hard trying to play an old td-4 kit that was semi functioning (I had to play the rim for the intro and even then I had to make sure I played in the right spot to ensure that consistent sound came out) as well a kick pedal that was MUCH TOO close for comfort and a cheap pedal, but I think I did it! Plus the one-time-only setup looks so ridiculously AVH awesome fortress like and sounds like it's straight from 1984! haha. That's my brother Luke Gallagher (20) shredding on Guitar and myself on bass.
All production in this cover including recording, filming, editing, mixing and mastering is done by me. The Song "Hot For Teacher" is written and composed by Van Halen

Josh, my sincerest compliments. I'm 45 yrs old, been playing in bands since I was 18 and just recently did my last gig with a tribute band, choosing to bow out because I was no longer "stimulated" by playing drums. I was just about to put my drums up for sale on Craigslist because I didn't even want to look at them any longer. After having watched your video I know how I'm going to be spending my Saturday night now. Setting up my kit again and learning to love the drums again. Thanks so much.

Unfortunately, I fell out of guitar the same way. Been in many bands, but kids and life are more important now. I got stuck in a rut and couldnt get any better on guitar due to lack of time. Still have my guitars and a few amps, so maybe one day I will ride again.

Marty, apt observation on the slop. That is a "bop swing" thing. It is an intentional bit of schmaltzie showboatmanship that never gets old. I just wish MTV looked at it more that way instead of focusing on DD's ridiculous mug. I hope you find this both informative and relief of the sting from Fred Zed and Lucky. If they knew anything about the history of the bros their comments would have been tempered with insight. Typical fanboys. Props to Free for at least showing some artistic inclination. Why use real looking drums if you're not going to use the real sounds from those drums, it's like driving a mustang with a motor from a smart car, some people might be okay with it but the real car guys have a problem with it

Josh, my compliments on a great job. Your talent and skill is obvious, technical ability is one thing but it's your attitude and personality that impress me so much. It's refreshing to see and hear. After 22 years of playing, I packed up my kit and haven't played since. That was 8 years ago. I think this is an absolutely flawless cover of this tune. I have loved this song since I was a boy. And what's more impressive is I don't know grown men who can play a shuffle that good with one kick drum. You're doing it with TWO. Kudos Young Lad. Keep up the good work. They say us younger folks are losers. That our technology and what have you has handicapped us. I know better tho. I have never in my life seen so many younger ppl picking up guitars and drums and keyboards and making real music. Its not in the mainstream right now but, it is definitely in the water and soon enough the mainstream will have to drink that water for it will be the only water left. They're going to choke themselves to death with the carbon copy industry they've currently been "surviving" on. I sure hope you are in a band. If not get in one. And don't worry about anything but writing great songs. It'll take you very far. The industry is starved for great songs. Don't let A girl our any drug come between you and your love for music. Van Halen producer Ted Templeman has gone (on record on his new book) conforming that the first few seconds of sound you hear in Hot For Teacher is the idling engine of Eddie’s Ferrari. And that engineer Don Landee had to work very hard to get the Simmons drums to match the sound of the car. But it IS there. This young man plays it properly and great! joshkosh95 I actually just ordered a 22" power ride 2002 yesterday. I got it new for $300. I also have a Paiste 24" mega bell ride and a 22" heavy ride. I compared the power ride to all the others and it always has the best sound. There is something unique and perfect about it.

Loved it. No one brave enough to do the lead vocal, though? Otherwise than that, it sounded pretty much dead on the money. I really have nothing else to add. Welllllllll... Fellow drummer loving how great your drums sound and how well you played them. But as a singer as well...I just really missed that David Lee Roth strut and swagger lead vocal. +Bill P Thanks! I used the floor tom and kick from a Roland TD-4 and tweaked one of the electronic toms/kick samples that sounded closest to the 80s Simmons drum sound, then did some extra tweaking in mixing.

Nice playing dude.. But the ride cymbal it at the start is incorrect.. Imagine counting the part as fast triplets: 1 @ a 2 @ a 3 @ a 4 @ a Alex is playing on the ride 1 @ 2 3 @ 4.. You played 1 2 a3 4 a1 2 a3 4 a (like a standard jazz groove) Sorry this is so crappy an explanation in this text.. What I'm saying is he plays the first 2 triplets of 1 and 3 and singles on 2 and 4. Listen to it. Good playing anyway. Well done.

S Murphy Haha, I don't always use the e-kicks. It was a one off for this cover, I'm always recording originals, covers and drum sessions with the acoustic so I just left them in there. Alex has aesthetic mics that aren't even being used too...haha

Outstanding job! You really nailed it and that's no easy task. I used to air drum in my room to that song when I was teenager. I always felt the drumming in that song was the real "STAR" of show even more so than eddies guitar!

Excellent job, kid! I'm 63 years old and banging the drums since I was 17 and can't do this job of a cover of an incredibly complex track. You've mastered it at a very young age. Obviously, you have talent that relatively few others have! Nice!!
