Thanks SB! I will do Cathedral soon. Eruption... I'm not so sure. I got this weird thing about that since Eddie passed. I haven't played since. Odd, I know but I think of it as this temple that is off limits now.

@@TheRetroGuitarist You know, Cathedral I learned but didn't get it to sound right before because I realized the issue with the volume pots and the echo. I am going to go back to that one once I have my guitar in. I haven't played in 20 years and used to play a lot. I feel like I'm new again. I understand how you feel about Cathedral. I actually discovered that one before Eruption. I was 6 when Diver Down came out. I didn't even figure out that was guitar until I learned how to play and was stunned to find out that it was when I got to be about 15. Then I started watching all the live stuff and saw what he was doing. And then later on seeing all his performances over the years when I was kid blissfully unaware of the pioneer Eddie was. I always knew he was great, but didn't realize how much until I got to be a teenager. I miss the guy like he was my "guitar dad". I hate feeling like I'm copying him but playing his stuff is just how I feel connected. I think surely he would understand maybe.

@@TheRetroGuitarist you know I might try just creating a similar something to Cathedral but just a different feel and theme. At least it would be an original. I still remember putting on that Diver Down album that my uncle had...I even remember sitting in first grade and thinking about going home and playing that album and hearing that in my head. I'm a total addict for Van Halen.

Oh man that is a GREAT story! I was lucky enough to work on the Guitar Hero Van Halen back in 2009 and Ed was a really cool dude. So glad you got spend some time with him too! Thanks for sharing that story.

Thanks Steve! The lack of subs has started to kill my interest in doing this lately. So now I do it when I have the time and mostly for my close friends and family. I really wish there was more interest but there are so many guitarists that can play this stuff that I understand it. As for Nuno, I love that guy! We used on play a bit of Extreme back in my clubbing days so I need to dust off the Extreme song list now! :-)

Oh yea, if I could have a 1969 Plexi in my room that I could turn up to 10 I would 100% do that. This is what I used to play through but, you gotta do what you can with the space you have. Kemper is great though!

Thanks Ed! I always try to get the feel/rhythm down before getting every note right. Once I feel that it is close I go back get as close as I can with the notes. The longer I do this, the less important the exact notes become though. Ed would not play the same twice so...

@@TheRetroGuitarist There are literally hundreds of people trying to play VH guitar on RU-vid. There’s only 2 or 3 that have actually come close. Now there’s 4.

I love the reverb sound. It is just a way to replace the ambience you would get if you were listening to a band play it. It wasn't until I started doing these videos and really listening closely to the guitars that I got a sense of how it was being recorded. The Kemper is great.

Thanks Jet! No detune on this one but there is a slight chorus on it and the flanger in a couple of parts. Eddie started the detune thing on 1984. The guitar sound is less processed before then but it is pretty much identical from VH1 through OU812. Pretty much a mono signal out of the left speaker.
