..agreed ...as a guitar player , I listen to this tune for the drum bridge .....it's crazy ....poor Alex was definitely overshadowed..

@@foamrob6577 Search for Monk Van Halen Running with the devil iirc... He was the band's manager during the Roth years. It's on YT and iirc over 10 hours. Anyways, Monk said Alex drank more than any other musician he worked with and that list is long. He talked about Alex waking him up and convincing his wife to go shopping. While she dressed, Alex wiped out the mini bar of booze. Monk called this breakfast for Alex. All said, he never saw Alex not put on anything less than 110%.

On the For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge album there is a track called Pleasure Dome. You will see that he did indeed show his abilities on the later albums. Alex actually got better with age which is a rare thing in a band that popular. They usually just stay the same or get worse. Alex quit drinking after the 5150 album. On OU812 he still was playing the same. On the F U C K album (the one mentioned above) his playing and sound went to a whole new level. The album after that was Balance and he played the best he ever has on that album. There’s a concert from that tour on RU-vid. 1995 in Toronto. There’s a concert video of the very 1st show on that tour from Pensacola, FL. That’s the first night so the band isn’t polished on the songs yet. For the Toronto show that came toward the end of the tour. Watch his drum solo from that show. He plays at a level I didn’t think he was capable of. I play drums and Alex & Neil Peart are my favorite drummers. Peart being the better of the 2 but not by much. In 1995 Alex was just as good and maybe even slightly better. Alex injured his neck during the tour and had to start wearing a neck brace. I think it ended up making him better because it kept his technique and form smoother because his head couldn’t move as much so his body’s overall posture was tighter are more balanced. Search for these 2 on RU-vid: Van Halen 1995 Toronto Van Halen Pleasure Dome Now I do agree that Alex sometimes rushed his drum parts in the studio or he felt like over playing wasn’t the best way to serve the song. On that same 95 Toronto video they open with Right Now. Compare the drums from the studio version to that live version. That live version completely blows away the studio version. It’s all just opinion. Bottom line is we both agree Alex was AWESOME!
