I remember going to the Met in NYC to see Eds Frankenstrat on display. I got to the display and stood there for about two and a half hours recounting the 40 years that Van Halen has been my life sound track. Only us fans understand and we very much appreciate you helping follow the footsteps of the greatest guitar player in the lifetime of the instrument.
It looks like Roth was born into privilege.....destined to have a cushy easy life ...knowing he will never have to worry about paying a bill...or having food and shelter...kinda like that rich blonde kid in the 80s teen flic Pretty in pink....hes one lucky bastard..lol....we have similar types here in great Britain...they called the royal family....what makes it worse though is they dont even have to work..(although some are given pretend easy jobs...or do ..er..."charadee " as a kinda hobby...apart from Harry who did serve in the armed forces but was forced out by his own family...for having the nerve to marry a black woman who was a bloody American.at that lol...rather than marry a distant relative member of the aristocratic freeloaders ."one is not amused".) We the British tax payer pay to keep them and their castles and Palaces and mansions...that said as far as I know none of the Queens inbred offspring have released and decent albums...Dave on the other hand was a great front man...I like Sammy...ok so sometimes he does remind me of someone who is constipated lol...but Dave was to Van Halen what Bon Scott was to AC-DC...he's essence of the band...apart from Eddie...Eds the main man...without him Dave would just be another loudmouth in a cheesy hair metal band...
You should go by Victory Park in Pasadena; that's where we all hanged out in 1969-1970. Eddie could not come out at night but Alex used to hang with us. We all hung out at the "mound" near the tennis courts.
Don’t know if you saw it but “Dave” is engraved in the cement just outside his house next to the curb. Not sure if he did it or someone else. I’ve never seen the gate open either. You have perfect timing!!
You totally missed staying focused on those stairs coming down to the lower yard at Roth's. That's where one of the early pictures was taken. The four of them standing on the stairs. It was probably taken around 76. You can find it on Google. The lights are on and cars going by but the whole Sunset area just looks dead. I don't know but it's not the same kinda foot traffic and action you would have seen in better days. Like the 80's and earlier.
Seeing that the gate was open this time, you manage to have ‘afternoon tea’ with Roth this time around? 😉🤟🏽 thanks for the trail bro. Enjoying it a great deal! VH rocks always.
Another awesome vid Jeff - On various biz trips to the LA area the past several years I went on such adventures to all the mega locations, studios, venues, etc. of the music era we love so much - The Whiskey, The Troubadour, Rainbow Bar and Grill, Roxy, and so on - Even had a couple of Jack and Cokes sitting in Lemmy's old spot - Saw a lot of shows at The Whisky on those trips as well - Super cool to feel the rock vibe there visualize the amount of energy on the strip back then, so many looking for their big break and record contract... \m/
Incredible! Man you're doing great things. Did you Swing by AL's horse ranch in the Hidden Hills subdivision? I thinks that's his families main concentration now. Be careful DLR has held a gun to someone trying to enter his property.
There’s a great documentary on the viper room floating around on YT a lot of music history , not sure about Gazzarri's being the original building though… Love all videos you been doing on VH 🤟🏼
Funny bc Roth bullshitted on JRE..He claimed he grew up on poor side of town w/ Chicano gang members, meanwhile Van Halen family was from rich side and snooty. (Even commenters were claiming Roth was reversing facts, just to impress Rogan)
My friend and I went up Coldwater Canyon and almost pulled in but felt we were stalking. I believe the entrance on Coldwater Canyin is unmarked. Where you filled was probably after entering that unmarked entrance to the compound.
Yep I wished I knew you were going there I would tell you to go two or three miles over to Woodman and Moorpark and turn right on Mammoth that's where we lived
Awesome footage 🫡 you know it’s good to see where they were, some kind of historical feeling, I love these kind of trips to where our beloved ones were, it makes you understand better, and details about necklaces were awesome, I though they gave-’em at platinum party 🫡
