Van Helsing = Cult Classic? Movie Commentary & Reaction 

"Please, pleas don't kill me!" "Why not?" "Well, I, uh, um. . ."

I remember watching this a lot on tv when I was younger. It is one of those films that even though it has some silliness, it has enough heart that it ends up being one of those sorta comfort films.

I really enjoyed this movie when I saw it, even through the ending made me a little sad. Stephen Sommers is great at creating fun summer blockbusters. I wish he had been the one to make the Universal Monsters Universe. Cute fact. Richard Roxburgh (Dracula) and the dark haired vampire bride (Silvia Colloca) got married after making this movie and now have 3 kids.

Oh my God how I just noticed that Igor is played by the same guy that played Beni in The Mummy...With the different look I never saw that, but the way he moves is just so specific :D

This movie is literally a love letter to Universal Monster movies. It's not the greatest movie, neither were the original monster movies, but this is a fun movie! Also, I love when the brides transform from their human to their vampire form and vice versa.

Regarding your wolf/wolverine question: They're not the same. Taxonomically they both belong to the suborder of Caniformia (dog-like mammals), but that's about it. The branch seperates here, with wolves belonging to the dog family tree (Canidae), which includes wolves, foxes, cojotes, jackals, wild dogs and pet dogs, and wolverines belonging to the marten family tree (Mustelidae), which also includes badgers, weasels and otters.

Not sure if y'all realized how clever and sneaky the writing was at the masquerade ball. Everyone is dressed in darker, cool, colors while Anna is in this daring red, instantly making her noticeable and setting her apart from the rest. Then they cut to the mirror and she's the only one dancing in a seemingly empty ballroom, giving us, the audience, a hint of how bad this is about to be without actually stating anything. It's actually really clever set writing in my opinion.

I’d love to see you watch the Underworld series as well. Especially the first 2 movies, i remember watching them a lot when i was a teenager. I had huge crushes on Kate and Scott Speedman. For Van Helsing too, i watched it a lot and crushed on Hugh and Kate both

League of Extraordinary Gentlemen could be fun. It's in a similar vein to this film.

The league of extraordinary gentlemen is another movie with story legends you guys would like. Mina harker from dracula, tom from tom and huck, jr jekyll and mr hyde, the invisible man and captain nemo from 20,000 leagues under the sea

This is probably my absolute favorite movie because it's completely bonkers yet also clever in certain areas. The soundtrack is also really good and Alan Silvestri popped off for it. I think a part of the reason the film didn't do well was because audiences probably didn't clock that Van Helsing is meant to be the archangel Gabriel. That's how he was able to remember Masada in 73 AD because he is one of the guardian angels of Israel. The Jewish Encyclopedia states that Gabriel takes the form of a man standing at the left hand of God, which is why Dracula refers to him by that title. Once you know that Van Helsing is meant to be the archangel Gabriel, the film becomes a lot better in my opinion. I'm annoyed Universal didn't greenlight additional films because I really want to know how Gabriel's story was supposed to end. I'm also pretty annoyed that we missed out on the Transylvania TV series where an American Old West sheriff arrives in a Transylvanian village (the village set from the movie was going to be used for the show which is why it was so detailed) and has to battle the monsters there. WE WERE ROBBED.

UNIVERSAL is known for 'MONSTER' movies- a rich history featuring the Frankenstein monster, his Bride, Dracula, The Wolfman, The Mummy, and the Creature From The Black Lagoon to name some!!!!😉 Thank goodness VAN HELSING had at least two or more in it (Frankenstein, Dracula, Jekyll/Hyde, a Werewolf)!!!! 😄

I had the DVD and watched it a lot. I was always into vampires (it started with the movie Queen of Damned) so i really liked it. My sister was afraid of this movie xD. You totally should react to Underworld, it makes total sense. And also the old The Crow (which is one of my favourite movies besides Practical Magic).

I remember that I saw this when it was new, but I remember nothing else about it other than it was entertaining. My preference is funny/scary monster movies, like Shawn of the Dead (2004), Zombieland (2009), Warm Bodies (2013). I loved the tv series Grimm.

That scene of Van Helsing holding her body looks so exactly like Wolverine holding Jean's body in X-Men The Last Stand.

Wolverines are a part of the same family as Stoats, weasles, and honey badgers. That's the Mustelidae family. Wolves are a part of the Canidae family. That includes dogs (wild and domesticated)

I'm gonna be honest: when I watched it, I thought it was a bit too ridiculous to enjoy even though I love campy and silly movies. But... since I love your channel so much, I'm gonna give it a second chance.

Kate Beckinsale in another badass role, gay teenage me watch everything with her in it xD Still like the movie, but went on a little ride with it. Used to love it, then it was too "campy" for me, and now I like it again... With regards to the bad reviews, I bet it would've done better, if it would've been released a little late, or just NOT in the middle of the Underworld franchise. I mean, they probably wanted to ride that vampire hype, but I don't think it worked out too well... I mean I do like Underworld definitely more myself.... btu who knows. Still a solid and cool vampire movie :)

I am sorry to say that I have never seen this movie, but I really really want to start watching Horror 😅 even though I really don’t think it’s gonna be a good time because I am not at all familiar with the genre. Honestly, I’ve avoided scary movies purposely my whole life. This one is definitely on my list for sure, I like the idea of monster movies
