I head out Findlay Creek FSR to climb Mt. Saint Maur. / forestyforest Merchandise: foresty-forests-store.creator... Summit Map: drive.google.com/open?id=12GF... / strava / forestyforest
Agreed. I've watched all the van life vids and enjoyed them all. Such a good vibe in them and content is really good. I'm watching old Foresty vids from the bike packing days now. They are also really great!
@@davidschweig7993 Ha! I did that a while back. Yes, very good. I'm really happy for him, that he's found his niche. He's great at what he does and he brings a lot of beauty and joy to those of us out here who get to watch his videos.
@@algorerhyth you're right, my autocorrect got me. Editing now! I am not sure if he mentioned whether or not she is named after the protagonist of the cartoon, but in my mind she is!
"I'm completely worn out after that one as it contained the most effort since White Mountain if not more " and then proceeds to go out and clear an extremely large log jam in the forest. I see your adorable sidekick is still doing her 'Goggles be Gone!" dance moves behind your back at 3:15 :-) Cracked me up! From start to finish this video had some stunning scenes, life and death decisions, A Foresty Forest confessional, Drool Making chicken wings and great humour including this line ""The mountain goats are carrying chain saws now!" LOL
Henry David Thoreau's wrote “the mass of men lead lives of quiet desperation” which is why I love these videos - seeing a man live life to the max should be an inspiration to all of us - it's certainly inspired me because I'm about to take a year off from working so I can have fun.
I agree that he is living his life to the max but the reality is this is his job now. Unless you’re rich enough to not work, living like forestry is infeasible for most of us.
Absolutely bro, go for it! You'll have the rest of your life for "responsibility" so enjoy being young & carefree when you have the zest & vitality to enjoy every here-&-now minute, especially if you have learned early that how much money goes thru your hands has nothing to do with having a great time! The van thing would be fun but you don't even need that; I bummed around Europe for a year when I was 19 (from Loch Ness to the Red Sea) and for some dopey middle-class American white kid to do that was invaluable !
Foresty, best explanation I've heard for why an introvert not only prefers to be alone but actually functions better that way in demanding or stressful situations--so true that it's easier to relax and focus on the challenge at hand without having to cope with another person. Great video, as always! Very best to you!
I totally agree! I prefer solo hiking/exploring because I'm not turning around if someone else tires out or isn't comfortable bushwhacking thru thick forest and alternately I'm not feeling guilty about holding someone back/slowing them down :)
I hike a lot in the New Hampshire white mountains, and I consider 3k ft elevation gain to be a big hike… to see you doing 3x that in the winter while carrying a dog is just insane to me. Stay safe and keep up the great work!!!
Great video. I'm not one for comments usually but today's video I need to know. In the wilds do you come across many bears or wild cats and if so what counter measures do you carry. Many thanks from UK
Almost 9000ft of vert in that kind of terrain is seriously super human, I can’t believe you didn’t throw in the towel. Also, I agree about solo adventures. When I think about all the times I’ve had close calls or bad situations in the wilderness it’s always been with other people.
Totally agree. I went solo travelling thirty years ago, when I was 24. Saw so many young people in couples or groups doing risky things due to bravado, and getting into trouble. Solo you listen to your gut/intuition and follow your own path.
Being alone has it's moments. Your van is your fortress of solitude. But that woodstove must make it toasty and cozy warm in your tiny home. Love the music selection. Wings over an open fire with Frank's red hot. Niiice!
Nice to see you always in such a good mood despite of any diffilculties! Keep on good nature watching like Jacques Cousteau of the mountains and forests.
Your videos/drone shots are so amazing! I would never get to see these sights without you. When I close my eyes for a second I can actually feel/imagine the wind and the cold of the snow wash over my face; then tears run down my cheeks because the world is so beautiful, thank you so much Foresty! ❤
That was so beautiful it almost didn't look real. I can't even imagine what an experience that must have been! & Rocco in those goggles.. She's a trip! What a perfect life for a Jack Russel.
I was happy to see that you got Rocko to wear the goggles in the snow. It was funny how Rocko decided she wanted a rest and climbed up on your backpack. Even though you are doing risky stuff, you know your limits and will turn around if it is to dangerous.
I've done a ton in the backcountry, I 100% agree going alone is safer than going with someone who doesn't really know what they are doing. The times I've gone with inexperienced people were way too stressful for me. That said, make sure you know your skill level and know your limits. A satellite messenger is also a must if you go alone.
It’s great you’re doing this now while you’re still a young man. I’m too old now to do that kind of hiking and climbing worked my whole life away. Thought I’d be able to do it when I retired but the body doesn’t do what your mind wants it to do.
Excellent point about matching skill with a partner. I’ve had rare occasions that I was the more experienced one and that was dangerous for a partner. But several times that a partner was more hardcore and experienced, pushing me beyond my comfort zone and safety level. I’d prefer to be alone for the most part. I know my pace and my limitations. Cheers bud 🍻
That really is good advice! I remember one time having a hiking partner with me, and she started turning gray on the way back, meaning her face was getting gray. The hike was in the southern Sierra out to Jordan Hot Springs, which is a 5 mile out and then 5 mile back trip. It's mostly downhill on the way out, you soak in the hot springs, and then you have to hike uphill out. That's what got her. I almost never hike with anyone else either. I don't know anyone that I would trust to have the endurance that I do.
There's only so much a partner can do for you out in the wild, unless you're both trained first responders carrying specialized tools on top of your regular equipment. You're both in the same boat. Alone or in a group, the real safety in my opinion resides in having a way to be located and ask for help at any time. Plus people knowing where you are or at least where you're expected to be and when you should report back.
It's so hard to find hiking/climbing partners that are perfectly matched. Even day to day it changes. Going fast is the safest way, and going alone is faster.
I've been watch FF for a couple of years, admiring his hiking, drone shots, culinary creativeness and van builds. Finally went back and watched some of his older bike trip videos. It's like he's living a life of comfort and leisure now compared to the way things used to be. Bicycling in the sand across the desert for weeks at a time seems almost incomprehensible to me. FF is a hardcore dude and one hell of an inspiration.
Dang, I love hiking, but nowhere near as much as Foresty Forest! He went up, then back down, then back up again, dealing with deep snow, flying the drone, carrying the dog .... My god, man! Super hard core!
I love this channel, contains better nature photography than I have seen from most big budget documentaries on TV and is full of insight into what it's like to live a pretty non-mainstream lifestyle
Thanks for sharing all that you do. I truly enjoy your videos, the scenery, watching what it takes to live this kind of life, and especially seeing your pup grow and learn. She obviously adores you! Safe travels to both of you!
I appreciate your stunning videos and the lengths you go to get the shots. I feel calm happy and humble after watching your epic climbs. Rocco is such an adorable addition. I live nowhere near any mountains. My only summit was a small mountain (sugarloaf) in Arkansas and I fell hiking down, fracturing my leg and was rescued carried off the mountain. I owe mountains another chance. Thank you for this making my Sunday morning so pleasant. (Brenda)
This is my second time watching this. Rocko looks like a rock star with those goggles. I feel so blessed to now live in BC. Always a beautiful view wherever you are. ❤
Excellent music from up top. Soothes the savage beast. Excellent climb Forresty. Totally beautiful. Miss Rocko deserves her kibble tonight. Pure masterpiece on this one Forresty.😊
My Dear Lone Wolf, You did it again. Your drone shots up in your heavenly mountains made my stomach do flip flops. It happens every time. But I don't look away. Vertigo be damned! I need to see what you yearn for. You continue to be the most mysterious mountain man in my interweb universe. And having Sweet Little Rocko there by your side is helping you to get back to 100%. She is making you slow down a bit and perhaps making you triple check for safety. Now if only you could help me locate my tongs that are lost in my kitchen, that would be phenomenal. I know I put them back in the drawer after I washed and dried them. Somehow they just walked out of my house. Maybe I should check the front bumper of my car. Stranger things have happened... Peace be with you from The Great Lake State of Michigan 🐢 ps...your chicken wings over the fire actually made my mouth water and now I know what to make for dinner!
Beautiful, beautiful views from the sky. Amazing that you made that second climb. I really love these videos and Rocco is adorable. I laughed about her running off with that piece of firewood at the end. You take us all on such great adventures!
I totally thought you were going to turn around before getting to the top but not only did you not turn around. You made it to the top. Back down. Took a nap. Got up and did some "light yard work". Love this channel Foresty 👋🏽❤️
Love all your content. I've just returned to Northern Quebec for work (tree planting) and it couldn't be more relieving. Fresh country air, almost no noise pollution, just freedom and forest. Your videos really helped me get through my first winter living alone in a more populated area. Its so important to listen to ourselves and follow our hearts, and it seems you are doing just that. Thank you for the video, take care!
Hey be sure and let us all know when you meet up with the Sasquatch with all the traveling you're doing out in the woods and walking I would think you would have met one by now remember just be calm and they'll walk away and leave you alone well hopefully thank good thoughts be safe love to you and your puppy.
Man Rocco is becoming quite a bushwacker. I was watching her pick a line right behind you when you went over some fallen trees. I am sure other dogs don't believe her at the dog park when she barks about all her adventures and climbing mountains, walking in bear tracks, etc..and that's just one day! She has no idea what a special life she has.
You are so good at what you do as a creator that there isn't even anything I have ever seen on TV that rivals your story and your presentation of it. AMAZING!
Rocko is figuring it all out! She is becoming a true companion. Two 🇨🇦 legends in the making. May the universe keep you and Rocko safe Foresty. We need you out there. P.S. Thanks for moving the socket set from that prime piece of real estate by your side door 😉
Awesome video! Alway look forward to your vids. Amazing camp spot on this one too. Could spend a week there just relaxing and exploring. Good on you for cleaning the trail.
Jaw dropping drone footage! 💜 thank you for yet another amazing video! Rocko seems to be getting bigger by the day! 🤣 Thanks for cleaning up the trails - yer awesome dude!! What kinda drone do you use Foresty? It seems to handle the wind well!
Amazing views all around - whether it be from the drone or 'simply' walking up or down a massive mountain. Awesome of you to try and clear paths when possible too! Wish I could afford to help support but I at least turn off the ad blocker and watch ads that pop up...least I can do right now to chip in a bit. Cheers!
I'm finally remembering to ask: with how paranoid most people are with separating food and campsite do you ever wake up to bear prints outside because you prep and cook inside the van?
I can't point it out but I remember him mentioning it in some video. I think he checked bthe area first to see if there were signs of bear activity, and only cooked outside if it was clear. I doubt cooking inside is much of a concern as he can just jump to the wheel and pull out if some bear tried to get in.
