If you can’t romance a girl who’s outta your league with this music, there’s something seriously wrong with your situation. I think most male Van fans owe him a HUGE package full of ‘thank yous’ for the shit we were able to pull off because of the soul in his music. Could never repay ya, Van… thank you SOOOO much !!!!
Blasphemy! I like Van Morrison, but Bob Dylan was...is my god. And you're probably right...the rhythm, the energy, the spin, the guitar, were on point in this. But nobody can sing a Dylan song like Dylan, no one can replicate the pain, those emotions, other than Bob Dylan himself...I mean, those were his stories, his experiences; and he could write many good songs that many good artists could cover, but only he knows how they're really played. And to be honest, I just don't break like a little girl listening to this.

I saw both live, Van was amazing, Dylan was experimenting with doing his classics in a new way. The Pogues opened for him, he was eclipsed by another Irishman, Shane MacGowan, who ranks right there with these two titans. God bless them all!
Van Morrison has been in my life since the early 1970's. His music and voice are like a heart and brain massage at the side of a babbling brook on a warm sunny day, with not a care in the world.
A great analogy of how his music feels! Hes been my favorite since the 1970. And he never stops growing and creating! Both brilliant and humble, a very rare and unique combination💚

I got introduced to Van by a friend. He had just heard a new release & heard 'Into The Mystic' blow him away. He then prompting blew me away with it as well. To this day, I remember that moment.
Van is absoluut top here. Dylan is the only artiest who stand in my opinion above Van. But in this Dylan song is this version of Van my favorite. So much emotion and expression added 🧡Fantastic
Blood on The Tracks was 1975, followed by an amazing number 1 best selling Album Desire, Slow Train Coming (1979)was amazing, the production, the passion in the lyrics (I even like street legal from 1978) in 1981 Shot of Love had some amazing songs, like Every Grain of Sand, then Infidels (1984) with Jokerman and the outtake Blind Willie McTell, i like alot of the other 80s tunes too but in 1989 Oh Mercy was released and that was amazing, masterpiece man. Time out of Mind (1997) was mind blowing and has this whole different feel to it, then Love and Theft (2001) is one of my favourite Dylan albums, has this gangster Martin Scorsese movie vibe to it, and then followed by modern times and together through life which are so so good especially Modern Times, all of the previously mentioned albums were so well received with fans and critics, and then Tempest in 2012 which has to be the darkest album Dylan has every done and it is mind blowing, and his recent crooning albums of American Standards, the musicianship and Dylans vocals are so so clean, although I do like the more course voice he has recently aswell man. I went to see him for my 17th Birthday in May this year, and got to the front and spent the night having the best time singing at the top of my lungs, to songs old and new man, gotta open your mind to his other stuff abit more man, Dylan has a lot of 'decent' or far more than decent stuff after 1975

Genius for sure, a legend, you can easily ignore van if you were unaware of his talent and just go about your day, however if you listen to him for a while, you can feel he lives deep down inside your soul. He stirs your spirit andcreates great harmony. A man I would truly love to meet.
He is no fucking genius. Stop throwing that word around. There is no such thing as genius. Everyone practices to get good at something and VM is no different.

Let's be clear about the lack of critical faculties: that you LIKE or "LOVE" a thing DOES NOT mean that the thing is "genius" -- such declarations are SELF-flattery. And he ruins this by going with the "gay" fantasy put on it by morons. "Queen Mary" was more likely a drug than a person.
The song is a gem and Hendrix an excellent guitar player but his cover grossly over-rated by commercialization of his death - unless you are only rating by the guitar play... . Bettered by many since, including Bob himself (Budokan) and Neil Young. Van's cover of JLW is unequalled, although a few others are remarkable: Sophie Hunger's Dirge (amazing), Alan Price's To Ramona, Raitt's Baby Blue and Sandy Denny's Heaven's Door and I'll Keep it With mine are close by Van's masterly cover. Not just great guitar: Great interpretation throughout.
She is amazing. I remember her cover of Brel's "Ne me quitte pas" unequalled to date. But - by one hair - I prefer Van's JLW... and now the very innovative "Dirge" by Sophie Hunger... Such a difficult choice.!!!!
It's that deep soulful voice of van. It's the same with its all over now baby blue by, Them. It's two geniuses colliding. I don't need a religion. Music like this is my faith. It's helped me through rough times.
One Irish Rover is a doc on Van where he sings 2 songs with Bob at the Greek ruins on acoustic. One of the best music docs ever. Best version of One Irish Rover.
Alan ---Don't think you can appreciate. Van the man as much as I can. He is 1 of a kind. EVERYTHING he did &does is so good. People have to have a certain ear to hear & soul to feel what he says. I believe that he is in tune with the universe !!!How can 1 man have so much to give ?Since I was 13 he has made me feel, think,enjoy & I pray I'll see him in concert 1 day. That would blow me away.
Just read your comment after I posred mine and must say we have the same admiration. I too was 13 and only play him on special times. He is in tune, a great point to make. A loyal old dog and a voice than can rip your heart open
You're his biggest fan ? And you haven't seen him in concert ? One of those statements is not true. Unless you have no arms and legs, and are confined to an oxygen tent and were struck down with blindness in your teens, whilst living on an atoll in the mid pacific ocean.

Willie Finn don't forget Eric Burden! His version of Bob's song it all over now baby blue is nothing short of spectacular. His collection of blues songs speaks for itself also! No disrespect to Van at all! I'd just put Eric ahead of him personally...
Was Burden not more Rock than Blues?? Mick Jagger and Jim Morrison didn't emulate Burden.... People still still to this day mistake early Van Morrison for Jagger. Plus he played guitar, harmonica, keyboards and saxophone to session music standard.
Not a fan of Dylan covers but WOW! !! This is spectacular... Feeling pretty broken today, lucky for me, wouldn't have listened to this one on another day. Fair play to you Van Morrison, pity you aren't around to bless the world with more of your brilliance.

Van and his soulful way brought me and not boasting, many a beautiful and loving female friend dancing closely and in the mood for kissing, hugging and squeezing. It was wonderful for the present company on those dimly lit week end moments. K

every time I listen to this (which is often!) I'm struck at hearing his voice at the beginning -- his accent is so strong then. It really 'mellowed' over the years. Yeah, I know, I know, he lived in Calif for years. Still.
Great voice and what a song. Didn't Bob Dylan wrote the original lyrics? Great music like this should be listened by all and appreciated by every listener. What a career that's spans 5 decades and is still going.

On the other, we treat celebrities for example, with (often) false respect. Even when it"s authentic, it's outcome is not what humans need. (After all, Weinstein, Jimi Saville and Myra Hindley were also made iconic by media....)
Yes, Morrison's voice really seems to enter soothingly into tortured (or not) souls. He's probably responsible for as many MH Healings as hundreds of psychotherapists & Counsellors
